Cartoons are serious business, that's why I'm always arguing about them. I need to give this one a try. I might as well, Steven Universe is going back into hiatus. Maybe I'll even give Homer's stupid weeaboo shows a shot.

They aren't "weeaboo" shows. They were made in Japan; they're anime. "Weeaboos" are American dorks who wish they were Japanese and awkwardly try to copy anime's flow - dorks like RebSu.

Steven Broniverse is a "weeaboo show". Gurren Lagann and Utena are "animes". Big Difference!

The Back to the Future parody part is what everyone hated I thought.

This show started out with everyone thinking it was going to be just a Back to the Future spoof and quickly became its own thing. The writing went from "here's a crazy alien planet with shock value" to basically taking every character and giving them wide reaching emotional arcs.

Morty starts off kind of a boring dummy but then develops into a more fully developed nihilistic teenager, with a lot of repressed rage issues. Rick starts off as what you think is just an uncaring jerk but in reality he's deeply suicidally depressed. Summer starts off rather selfish and materialistic and then becomes more interesting as she decides to develop a relationship with Rick and Morty more and expand her horizons. Jerry and Beth start off passive aggressive and in denial about their marriage not working but then gradually admit they have problems with co-dependency and neither one of them is purely at fault.

Also there is a characters called Principal Vagina and he might be Swedish.

I was really impressed by how Mr. Poopybutthole went from being a one-liner delivering sort of third sidekick in season one to having his own arc in season two.

Damn, this show sounds like a Homestuck fanfic.

It pretty much is. Dan Harmon also does a popular podcast about D&D and such, and you might recognize Justin Roiland's voice from Adventure Time. The Poopy Butthole episode is full of other fun little references that I doubt most people get, AND has Keith David as a Reverse Giraffe. Have we convinced you yet Homie?

It's more a Doctor Who spoof anyway.

Rick and Morty is the most imaginative sci-fi writing I've encountered in years. The fact that it's found mainstream success is a testament to it's intelligence and that it's funny on top of that are great bonuses.

Season 2 was good, so it's definitely a good time to announce your intention to be That Guy now and beat the rush.

Also, this is one of my favorite R&M quotes next to "I've been inside a kid all day and I can feel my bones grinding against each other." which is better because it's horrifying without context.
