So have they ever re-released this movie? I saw a version a while back that was pretty low res and had parts that had some fucked up problems.

Old_Zircon - 2015-10-30

No idea. I imagine there could be some licensing issues if nothing else.

Old_Zircon - 2015-10-30

The quality I've been able to find is part of the reason I've only watched it piecemeal and haven't actually sat down and seen it from start to finish yet.

infinite zest - 2015-10-30

You can find it; I've seen it at record stores kind of like how you could find Decline of Western Civ before they finally did a digital transfer, but there's also a certain website that rhymes with "rirate ray"

Erix - 2015-10-30

There's a new remastered director's cut that screened at the Toronto International Film Festival last year. I assume they'll be releasing it on blu-ray and such but can't find any more exact info.

Dupe but good.

I love Neil Young and I've never seen this. Very cool.

Old_Zircon - 2015-10-30

This movie has i all. NEil Young, Devo and Dennis Hopper.

It's Neil's Uncle Meat.

infinite zest - 2015-10-30

I'm pretty sure I saw this at some point.. if I recall it was kind of like Alex Cox's Straight To Hell or Corman's The Trip: "Woah what a cast! How could this NOT be a good movie?" ..oh yeah..

Old_Zircon - 2015-10-31

The impression I got was more like 200 Motels.

I actually liked Straight to Hell quite a bit, to.

infinite zest - 2015-10-31

I've heard that the remastered one makes more sense. I love the movie as well in my own way, but not as a movie, just for its cinematic stamp in history and its amazing cast. For me few movies get it right: Repo Man is actually the only one that comes to mind.. maybe Wild Zero but halfway through I was pretty bored with the movie itself and just rocking out.

Doc Victor - 2015-10-30

Neil Young has done some great stuff but at the end of the day he is like a Boston sports fan; fuck him and everything he stands for. Especially Lionel Trains.
Devo remains an unduplicated paragon of quality, however.

infinite zest - 2015-10-30

I'm not necessarily a fan of Young's music, but as far as singer/songwriters go I think he's the most diverse, or at least was. And that includes Bowie, Waits and Reed, since you can always tell it's Bowie or Waits (possibly not the early stuff) and Metal Machine Music doesn't qualify as an album IMO. I haven't really been keeping up but the new-ish Leonard Cohen stuff experiments with Vocoders and such, but Young was doing it 30 years earlier. That's a far cry from John Fogerty getting sued by his former record label for sounding too much like CCR.. Neil got sued for NOT sounding like Neil!

EvilHomer - 2015-10-30

Dang troll! What do you have against Boston sports?!

Doc Victor - 2015-10-30

My point is this: Boston has always had quality sports teams, ranging from the legendary and noble(the Celtics), the roughly loveable(the Bruins), the worthy adversaries (Red Sox), to the inhumanly vile (Pats). The fanbase, however, takes these qualities and magnifies them 1000x to the negative. I cannot imagine a more grotesquely Dantean assortment of human filth gathering in one place than the Boston side of a major sports arena. No matter what they do, no matter how good they are, they are still the most wretched people on earth.

infinite zest - 2015-10-30

What's wrong with model trains though? I'd rather play around with Legos but I don't think they ever hurt anybody, except for maybe small rodentia. But personally my least favorite sports fans are the Timbers Army, and I've been to a Super Bowl. I'd rather be at a Sox game sitting next to a guy who's actually into the game than a whole bunch of people who don't know the first thing about soccer just bro-ing it up in the stands like it's a downtown nightclub in the middle of the day..

I never really liked DM but damn if that wasn't one of the most fun moshpits I've ever been in (doesn't hurt that it was a free show sponsored by the University..) I was bleeding pretty badly and had the biggest smile on my face.

EvilHomer - 2015-10-30

I got free tickets to go see them at Mohegan Sun next week, but I don't think I'll be able to make it, owing to No Car.

Doc Victor - 2015-10-30

I'll give you that MLS is a big joke, zesty-o, espescially in Portland. For passively annoying fans, they win.
Homer, you're from Connecticut/Western Mass? Fuck, we probably know some of the same people...

infinite zest - 2015-10-30

Wow.. they're playing Casinos now? I guess they deserve it, but I always think of Tom Jones and Tony Bennett and such when I think of Casino music, and not the surprisingly nicest bunch of skinheads I've ever met, who very well might have saved my life after I was getting trampled. But that was like 15 years ago.

Did they hit it big at some point? I use a company car that's always tuned to the pop/alternative station and I'm usually too lazy to turn it off so I hear a lot of Mumford and Sons, that "Renegade" song from the NOLA SEAL poser, stuff like that but I don't think I've ever heard Dropkick Murphys.. I guess good for them!

Like I said it's not necessarily my personal choice of music, but I found a video of some friends of mine in a band called Rum Rebellion.

Dang troll! What do you have against Boston sports?!

EvilHomer - 2015-10-30

D'oh!

EvilHomer - 2015-10-30

For my OP, I meant to say something along the lines of, "Neil Young sucks, yadda yadda, Devo sucks, yadda yadda, dad rock." Discuss.

infinite zest - 2015-10-30

I pretty much just listen to Shearwater these days, but back when I worked at a bar I'd plug the jukebox with Velvet Underground's Sister Ray and Neil Young's Ordinary People a little before last call so people wouldn't get pissed off that they had to go and didn't get to hear their song.

infinite zest - 2015-10-30

But as far as Boston teams go, I don't really follow sports but dicking around with sports equipment, especially at the Big Game, just isn't cool

infinite zest - 2015-10-30

And Young is definitely Dad Rock, quite literally in fact because he pretty much made TRANS for his son, who was born with CP, couldn't really verbally communicate but liked computers and "beep boop" music like Kraftwerk. That's a pretty cool dad.
