I forgot that this show was awesome. This needs to be somewhere where I can watch it again, like Netflix.

Awesome, thank you. Last time I checked the Duckman torrent situation was almost as dire as The (animated) Tick.

Old_Zircon - 2015-10-31

I've got to admit I only ever really watched season 1 of Duckman, I had no idea it was on TV so long. I thought they cancelled it after the first year.

I watched season 1 a lot when it was on the air, though.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-10-30

eh

Bort - 2015-10-30

Ah, the era when we really really wanted to believe there were clever cartoons out there, so we pretended this was good.

fedex - 2015-10-31

yeah, pretty much. Todays stuff is just so much better, my kid loves Gumball, Teen Titans Go, Futurama, Space Dandy, etc...they are all consistently great, I enjoy them as much as he does.

RedHood - 2015-10-31

Everyone loves the smell of maple syrup, but no body wears it as a cologne.

infinite zest - 2015-10-31

I would've loved Space Dandy if I was a kid. It's too bad that it gets a TVMA rating so a lot of parents probably don't let their kids watch it. Besides boobs popping up a lot there's nothing there that a kid shouldn't see, and wants to see, like boobs. April O'Neil had boobs too ya know..

Old_Zircon - 2015-10-31

Duckman played late night and was always aimed at adults from the beginning.

A fairer comparison would be Duckman vs. American Dad. And there is only one acceptable answer to that.

Caminante Nocturno - 2015-10-31

Duckman was never good.

Old_Zircon - 2015-10-31

Just pretend the woman in the cartoon is a 9 year old anime.

RedRust - 2015-10-31

Duckman had a different personality that I could not understand at age 11.

Binro the Heretic - 2015-10-31

Fuck the haters. "Duckman" was great.

infinite zest - 2015-10-31

A lot of it seemed to take advantage of the fact that they could go one step further than other "adult" cartoons with more T&A humor and such, but I remember some existential rants that would make Bill Hicks or George Carlin blush, which, of course I paid no attention to since I was like 12 years old when it was on, but they stuck with me.

infinite zest - 2015-10-31

(or, what redrust and xenocide just said.. note to self, in the future don't leave your reply window open and decide to go take a shower whilst discussing Duckman.) :)

infinite zest - 2015-10-31

Yay! Found what I was thinking about though!

http://www.poetv.com/video.php?vid=23053

Damn.

Old_Zircon - 2015-10-31

The existential rants are all I remember from when I was a kid. But again, I only really saw the Zappa season. I definitely remember even as a 13 or 14 year old noticing that the Simpsons had gone downhill a bit right around the same time that some of their original team left and started Duckman.

infinite zest - 2015-10-31

Woah I never knew about the Zappa connection! Or that it was a comic book first. I guess it's kind of like if Fritz the Cat became a series.. eventually you wind up in a Cool World.

Bort - 2015-11-01

IZ - I have to admit that's a pretty good rant, though I'm seeing a lot more "trying too hard" than you are I bet.

But over on Disney, "Gravity Falls" can make a good point in passing almost effortlessly.

Granted, it's a point more directed at 13-year-olds who are crushing on older teenagers, and as such it's not real applicable to you and me. But still, gotta give it credit for compact and efficient form.

Xenocide - 2015-10-31

Duckman was really hit or miss, so really both sides of this thrilling debate could be correct depending on which episodes they watched. It had some brilliant satirical episodes but there were also a ton of eps that just boiled down to "HA HA DUCKMAN LIKES BOOBIES."

Old_Zircon - 2015-10-31

I suspect the latter came later in the show's life than I saw, I remember every episode being half fever dream and half existential crisis, and all of the animation being vaguely psychedelic in exactly the way you would expect from ex Simpsons animators who were obviously very aware of Bruce Bickford.

I never saw the episode this clip is from, and it efinitely doesn't have the same visual style I remember, it looks closer to Rocko's Modern Life (which is to Duckman as Spongebob is to Ren and Stimpy).

Old_Zircon - 2015-10-31

The truth is I found this because it's Ham Week and I confused Cornfed's name with that pig from Tiny Toons (which I never got the appeal of, and until this very moment had confused with U.S. Acres/Garfield and Friends).

infinite zest - 2015-10-31

Did they ever explain what they farmed on US Acres? And why a pig would be in charge in the first place?

Killer Joe - 2015-10-31

Meh.

bopeton - 2015-10-31

Cartoons in the 90s tried to be clever by having weird, grotesque animation styles and "edgy" jokes.

Modern cartoons try to be clever by constantly breaking the fourth wall.

Techniques change, but quality doesn't.

Gmork - 2015-11-01

This clip was shit. I like duckman, but that's the worst clip you could have possibly paired with "Better than the simpsons".

They just played all of the Treehouse of Horrors episodes in a row. Definitely not better than the simpsons, even at their worst.

joelkazoo - 2015-11-01

Hey, look, a loud, misogynistic duck saying inappropriate things for the sake of inappropriateness! That's so un-PC! Laugh, goddammit!

I tried to like this show. Really, I did. I gave it at least a half dozen chances. But the whole "You're *supposed* to like this show because you're *supposed* to hate the main character!" genre has never appealed to me.

Except when Bill Murray does it. He's good at it.

memedumpster - 2015-11-02

Every episode of Duckman is based on a true story, somewhere.
