I want to smack nerds who say, "Frankenstein was the creator not the monster." STFU you literature literalists. Frankenstein's presence in film and pop culture far outweighs the influence of its source material. At some point he went from just The Monster to Frankenstein. Most of them probably haven't even read Mary Shelly's novel. The image of Boris Karloff under all that makeup spawned the modern Frankenstein.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-10-30

I am a fan of most interpretations of Frankenstein that do not involve Aaron Eckhart.

Penny Dreadful did the literary adaptation of the Creature, showing him for the philosophical being he is in the books and it works quite well, but the various monster versions of Frankenstein's Creature are all really awesome each in their own levels. This is a bit sillier than most but I love it for just that reason. I don't think anything in cinema will ever make me as happy as 50s and 60s B monster movies.

And the creature (named "Adam" BTW) felt that Dr. Frankenstein was his father, so I guess that would make him Adam Frankenstein now wouldn't it.

>>At some point he went from just The Monster to Frankenstein.

Not really. There were, I believe, eight movies that featured the Universal Frankenstein, as designed by Jack Pierce, from Frankenstein in 1931 to Abbot and Costello meet Frankenstein in 1948. From the very first sequel, (Bride of Frankenstein, 1935), the rules were in place. The monster could referred to as "Frankenstein" in the title of a film, but up to that very last appearance with Abbot and Costello, in the world of the film he was always "the monster", or "Frankenstein's monster".

No, the image of Boris Karloff spawned the modern *Frankenstein's Monster*. Learn 2 literature, Cena!!!

StanleyPain - 2015-10-31

But, seriously, Frankenstein was the creator, not the monster.

RedRust - 2015-10-31

Well, well, in Castlevania SOTN they call Frankenstein "The Monster" so there.

Cena_mark - 2015-10-31

But now, monsters that are made from the sewed up remains of corpses are Frankenstein. Its like many other inventions named after their inventors like Braille, or the sandwich.
RedRust, but you just called it a Frankensein. Plus that's a video game and those are made by nerds.

Aelric - 2015-10-31

Frank "The Monster" Einstein. He loves to fuck.

EvilHomer - 2015-10-31

OK Cena, do you actually know anyone who calls The Monster, or creatures like him, "a Frankenstein"? Calls him that unironically? Because I don't know anyone who does this. Everyone I've spoken to is perfectly aware that Frankenstein is the name of the doctor, not the monster. These same people are also aware that there exists "other people", "dumb" people, who believe that The Monster's name is Frankenstein, but WHO these dumb people are is a mystery. It's always like a friend-of-a-friend, or some vague "I heard a story once" type of situation.

My guess is that no-one, not even you, could be ignorant enough to call Frankenstein's Monster "a Frankenstein", and this whole "people think Frankenstein is The Monster's real name" meme is itself merely an urban legend - perhaps one that held some truth a century ago, when Frankenstein movies were first coming into vogue, but certainly not one which has any relevance today.

Cena_mark - 2015-10-31

A google image search for Frankenstein yields endless pics of Frankenstein. The guy you'd merely call the monster. Frankenstein is such a fitting name for him too. Its very imposing.

EvilHomer - 2015-10-31

It's returning the most famous image from the book and/or film. And anyway, Frankenstein is the name of some egghead who doesn't even have enough balls to raise the dead properly, without pussying out. How would THAT name be fitting for a cool-ass monster, one who can, like, break walls and strangle children n' shit?

If you want an imposing name, you should call The Monster "Rainbow Smash".

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-11-01

I don't think Cena's all that wrong. The use of the name Frankenstein for the monster is something that's done, and has always been done, and it's been done by everybody, including Universal and on one occasion that I can think of, Boris Karloff. But he's never called that inside the fictional universe of the movies, just out here among us real folks.

AMERICA'S MISSILE MIGHT!

Take that, geodesic dome!

BHWW - 2015-10-31

The spaceship looks more like someone's model of a Home of the Future from that time period.
