My first drum machine is a Boss DR-5. Even worse drum sounds.

This thing.... I dunno, on the one hand most of the hi hats sounded like steam releasing on its best days. On the other, if you layered the same sound at different volumes on the same note, you could create a really surreal distortion effect, especially with the analog kit. It sounded like vaporizing electricity.

De-tuning and pitch shifting a lot of the drum sounds could also be done. Basically you had to screw with it to make it sound nice. And then as for MIDI conversion, for some reason only every other pad actually linked up to a given computer.

Mine was a DR-660. I traded it for a Commodore 64c years ago when I was really burned out on digital sounds and electronic music in general, and kind of regret it now, between my memories of it having nice pad response and being fun to program, and Legowelt praising it so much in that one video.

In fact, until I'd been in college a couple years the only stuff I had besides cheap keyboards were one Digtiech multiFX box, a Tascam 424 (the g geey one Ween used, I've given it away a couple times but it kept coming back and I still have it and use it all the time) and the 660. Around 2000 I got a Korg Poly61m really cheap and sold it even cheaper around the same time as the 660, and also regret it, more so after seeing LEgowelt praise it and sho some stuff that I hadn't tried with it.

Thanks a lot, Danny.

Also this thing sounds great, I wish I had gotten one of these(or better yet the little sampler from the same product line) instead of the QY-10 I have, which is cool for low quality, almost tracker-like general midi sounds but more of a hassle to use.

On the other hand, it's tempting to drop the -ish for a Novation MM10 because this has to be one of the more stylish crappy gear setups I've seen:
