I repair a lot of CRT monitors, and always dread finding Fairchild parts, because often times these parts won't cross ref to a generic equivalent. I will say that I called them up one time looking for a work around for a part of theirs that was obsolete, and the dude I talked to put the work in and found one for me.

And then these guys said "f this" and started Intel.

When I first worked on a semiconductor manufacturing line (200mm wafers) we went through weeks of training repeatedly walking through proper wafer handling. My first day on the actual job in the basement of the fab, in the planarization sector (not 100% clean room), I saw some dude drop a wafer circuit face down on the floor, pick it up with his gloved hands, blow dust off the circuit face, brush it off with his hands and then put it back in the wafer box.
