Yay! I still have my long sleeve t-shirt from that World's Fair, with the logo @ 1:10 or so. All throughout high school people were like "oh how was it" even though they should've known that I wasn't born yet.

That ad at 3:20 is incredible.

I was twelve and would have loved to have gone, but my family was dirt poor at the time.

I was old enough to barely remember the 84 World's Fair in New Orleans. I remember going on a Splash Mountain type ride and some little girl my age rolling out of her seat and under the bench at the front of the boat during the drop. They had to stop the ride. I don't think I had a particular reaction to it. I don't think New Orleans had a really good reaction to it either other than it eventually building the warehouse district back some 15 years afterwards, getting the Riverwalk (which nearly closed a bunch of times until it got refurbished into an outlet mall), and getting that useless aerial tramway system over the river that I think they dismantled within a year or two.

I didn't know they were still around, but I looked it up. Weirder than Knoxville is Spokane Washington in 1974. No offense to anybody who lives there, and there's actually some cool things about the town if you dig around, but really?

(oops not meant as a reply, NOLA in the 80s sounds like a fun place. I've still never been but I hear they're condoing the shit out of it worse than Portland) :(

As of this filming, the international pavilions each consist of empty tents with signs that say "MEXICO" on them. Later these tents were filled with wigs.
