HOLY SHIT! When I was a little kid, my mom used to drive past a scrapyard taking me to & from school and they had a faded blue-green truck that looked almost just like this thing in a corner near the road. It was rusted all to Hell and had no wheels, but I thought it looked like a cool truck from space. (I was five, okay?)
I remember asking my mom what kind of truck it was and she said she thought it was some kind of Volkswagen. It did look kind of like a VW Transporter, albeit with a little more style.
Only after viewing this video did I find out about the Corvair Rampside pickup truck. That was the "cool truck from space" I saw sitting in that scrapyard.

infinite zest - 2015-12-06 I'd need to ask my dad for confirmation, but my great grandpa had some variety of car boat. He always wanted to be the first one in La Crosse, Wisconsin to have anything new, resulting in a 5,000 dollar ice machine that made those ice cubes with holes in them, and a TV set with an antenna that went hundreds of feet into the sky, among other things. I believe the car boat did work, but besides the Mississippi there's really not much nearby, and you wouldn't want to take that thing out on the river.
