you know, those 80s style Inception trailers

infinite zest - 2015-12-14

Yeah I don't see what's "80s" about this at all.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2015-12-14

I mean in that it lays out the films premise rather than merely presents a load of random meaningless out of context quotes.

SolRo - 2015-12-13

I liked Origin and Future past, hope this is as good.

infinite zest - 2015-12-14

FROM BRYAN SINGER, director of X-Men, X2 and X-men Days of Future Past and no other Superhero movies ever!

Yeah DoFP was pretty good, and had a lot of memorable scenes. Next to Wolverine it was probably my favorite X-Men film. How's Apocalypse fit in here though? I'm no expert on the comics but I don't remember Apocalypse being in the X-Men Junior timeline.

SolRo - 2015-12-14

Feels like a continuation.

By continuation I mean the gradual crippling and aging of prof x

infinite zest - 2015-12-14

Yeah, on second viewing Jubilee's 90s outfit and the twin towers more-or-less puts it in the right universe from what I remember. But still, that's going to require a lot of quick ageing to make Mcavoy and Fassbender into the age of Stewart and McKellen.

Kabbage - 2015-12-13

Baldy von McHairnone stars as Professor Cueball

gmol - 2015-12-13

A part of me is predicting this and B vs. S is the beginning of the end of super hero movies. It seems like it's getting harder for villains to translate well (see Doomsdayangelo). Hard to imagine how Dr. Doom can come to the big screen in a credible way. It was obvious from the Spiderman 3 trailer that they messed up Venom (were Spiderman 3 done right, people would've just called it "the Venom movie").

Apocalypse is wonderful in the cartoon, rewatching the clips on youtube confirms it wasn't just rose colored glasses. He looks like a cross between Darth Vader without his mask and Uncle Fester here. There are Apocalypse cosplays that look better.

The Mothership - 2015-12-13

Agreed about the X-Men cartoons, although Apocalypse reminds me of Skeletor.

ashtar. - 2015-12-13

He looks like a giant blue baby wearing lipstick.

Nikon - 2015-12-14

Or Ivan Ooze from Power Rangers.

Nikon - 2015-12-14

It's hard to make a comic book villain threatening or human in only 90 minutes. I think the Netflix series have a huge advantage over regular movies for that reason.

The Mothership - 2015-12-13

So how many superhero movies has it been this year? Have we reached peak superhero yet?

Pretty soon it's going to be like the early 90s again when superheroes were super unpopular in Hollywood, and stuff like The Mask was getting greenlighted cause it was comicy but not Marvel/DC.

infinite zest - 2015-12-14

I can actually only think of 3 this year, maybe 4 if you count Kingsmen: Ant Man, Fantastic Four and Avengers 2. It's just that the trailers are released so far in advance now to throw off your attention from the other ones that they all blend together. 2016 will have a few more, but so far I think it's just Batman v. Superman, this, Deadpool and Suicide Squad.

infinite zest - 2015-12-14

Oh and Captain America

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-12-14

X Men-First Class is pretty much the only live action superhero movie I've actually seen in the last five years. I haven't even seen the Avengers. Most of them look boring. This looks...meh.

infinite zest - 2015-12-14

I'm just sad that James Mcavoy shaved his head in real life for this. :(

Nominal - 2015-12-14

Days of Future Past was a lot better than First Class.

CrimsonHyperSloth - 2015-12-14

Hollywood pumps out the super hero movies because it's what sells in China right now. Low production costs, no intricate plot, easy to translate. You're not the audience.

This is what my friends in the film industry are saying at any rate.

infinite zest - 2015-12-14

Makes sense, but Days of Future Past did have a pretty intricate plot, and having not seen First Class I was pretty much in the dark, going mostly on what I remembered from the X-Men cartoon as a kid. But yeah mostly it was me tuning out for 2 hours and watching hot Magneto and Xavier and Wolfie's butt.

Nominal - 2015-12-14

Super hero movies equals low production costs? The fuck?

Nominal - 2015-12-14

Not sure how this is going to work. A big story element that made the Xmen movies resonate where others flopped was the element of militant cynics vs humanist idealists. Once you put in typical megalomaniac comic villain Apocalypse into it....

TeenerTot - 2015-12-14

HOOOOONNNNNK!
HOOOOONNNNNK!
HOOOOONNNNNK!
HOOOOONNNNNK!

I'll prolly see it anyways. I like Nightcrawler.

MurgatroidMendelbaum - 2015-12-14

I must prefess, I look forward to seeing more of young Quicksilver.

infinite zest - 2015-12-14

Why didn't Quicksilver help them out the rest of the movie? I guess that would've been kind of anti-climactic but he could've fixed everything really quickly. Every time Magneto fucks around bending things around for 3 minutes he could've stopped in under a second.

Nominal - 2015-12-14

I always hated Flash/Quicksilver. Their powers are theoretically limitless, and are either unstoppable and invincible, or are taken out by the villain throwing a banana peel on the ground, depending on the whim of the writer.

The fun of super hero powers is strictly defining them then watching them come up with creative uses of them. If you make it so they can effortlessly do anything, then what's the point? You're just there free of suspense waiting for the writers to throw out the banana peel.

X-men movies have always had a tradition of introducing an overpowered character and having to get rid of them early on so there could be a plot. It was Professor X in the original trilogy, and Quicksilver in the latest. I he had to go now his home planet needs him!

betamaxed - 2015-12-14

Even if this turns out good I'm not paying money to see a film made by a child rapist.

Nominal - 2015-12-14

A Roman Polanski X-men movie would be awesome!

Nominal - 2015-12-15

Also it's really fucking hard to look at the facts and say Singer is a pedo rapist.

1997: An extra on Apt Pupil said he was asking him and a bunch of other minors to film a shower scene for the movie. Lawsuit dismissed for insufficient evidence.

2014: Actor/model claims Singer drugged and raped him. Evidence is presented that neither of them were in the state at the time the alleged rape took place. Less than 2 weeks later, the accuser withdraws the lawsuit.

2014: One month after the 2nd lawsuit was filed, an anonymous man filed his own lawsuit stating that Singer and Masters of the Universe Director Gary Goddard arranged for a threesome hookup to celebrate the premiere of Superman Returns, only to beat him up and rape him when they met. At the accuser's request, the charge against Singer was dismissed.

The 1st sounds very iffy, the 2nd had pretty conclusive evidence it never happened, and the 3rd sounds like Ralph fucking Wiggum filed the lawsuit.

chumbucket - 2015-12-14

I'm glad there were plenty of BWAAAAHHHH!!! cues in this to let me know that the broken up dialog and the graphics they tease in were really important and I should be leaning over to someone to say "oh wow need to see this" or something dumb and mindless like that.

Two Jar Slave - 2015-12-14

You must be really fun to watch movies with.

StanleyPain - 2015-12-14

You know, this sounds silly, but it's really hard to get behind this with that stupid as fuck costume they gave Apocalypse. It just seems weirdly out of tone with the rest of this series.

misterbuns - 2015-12-14

shit expository trailer.

singer really nailed Archangel. He looks so cool. I never liked his awesome teal and neon pink color palette and futurist tron like suit. He looks much better as an under age gay porn star.

West Hollywood Twink Airborne Division.

Bryan Singer's finger has been inside that kid's butthole.

kingarthur - 2015-12-14

So how does the continuity work in these X-films? Are the first three a different time line from first class or did future past basically hit the reset button on everything?

roofle - 2015-12-14

The old X-movies timeline still exists, but Days gave them an excuse to resurrect Jean, Cyclops, and Prof X.

Fox must've realized they couldn't do anything with half the characters since the X3 basically butchered the X-teams anyway, and decided to just soft reboot everything. Honestly, it fits right in with what the X-Men books do anyway since those are a convoluted mess of retcons anyway.

roofle - 2015-12-14

Apocalypse looks better than the promo images they released when this got announced, but Bryan Singer is a terrible action director and I have little hope this will be good.

Days of Future Past was probably the 2nd best thing he's ever done, and that's because he was ballsy enough to kill everyone on screen. Storm getting impaled by a Sentinel made that an 8/10 movie alone.

misterbuns - 2015-12-14

Agree.

Also I love that she has basically .5 lines before she is murdered it comes off as scornful and I love it.

Storm is one of the best characters of Marvel and Halle Berry just wasn't working.

Also, no, I don't think the old timeline still exists. Days completely retconned it which was another meta scornful fuck you to how the franchise has been handled.

That one was pointed at Brett Ratner.

roofle - 2015-12-14

I remember a quote where they said some bullshit on how it "does and doesn't" still exist. All because Singer basically wants to ignore the Wolverine movies, since those films still have things that still haven't been explained or retconned away (like his claws being still metal in DOFP.)

It only really "exists" because they don't know if they want to make more of the modern X-cast movies, and the fact that Jackman has one more Wolverine movie to do.

Nominal - 2015-12-15

I was going to defend Singer as an action director, but then I realized that it's because I only have Brett fucking Ratner as a comparison.

I don't think there's a worse director in hollywood right now. He has never done a not total shit movie. Not even Michael Bay or Roland Emmerich has that kind of track record.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2015-12-14

So is this taking place before Xavier and Co. met Logan?

Because the complete lack of Wolverine is both surprising and disappointing.

roofle - 2015-12-14

They've met already, he told them to "fuck off" when they met him the first time in the First Class movie.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2015-12-15

Yeah but in Days of Future Past they didn't tell him to fuck off.

Or did they just forget about him after he altered the timeline?

Or am I just giving Marvel too much credit when I assume they put minimal effort into continuity?

oddeye - 2015-12-14

fuck you mutants

That guy - 2015-12-15

I'm just going to pause it at 0:16 and give 5 stars for the acting from Sophie Turner.

That is the acting they LEAD WITH in the trailer . . . . . . .

Nominal - 2017-03-21

This movie suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked
