Femininists

Xenocide - 2015-12-31

Who is this woman, she's hilarious. She alone will be allowed out of the kitchen once a year, to tell us jokes and maybe dance around a little.

Bort - 2015-12-31

Please tell me you've checked out all the other Charlie Brooker videos here, because Philomena Cunk is on all of them.

Philomena Cunk: say it loud and it suggests she came from an upper class family
Philomena Cunk: say it soft and it's almost like someone getting hit on the head with a shovel

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2016-01-01

Her name is Diane Morgan and she manages to out-Stephen Colbert Stephen Colbert.

godot - 2016-01-01

"Burgeoning fascist tyrant who must be stopped at all costs" was a bit out of character.

infinite zest - 2016-01-01

Yeah, I feel kinda bad about saying this but British female comedians have perfected the art of being dumb, mostly because they still sound super educated to me because of their accents. I'd still take Pam Bachelor though.

For context,

But I want to date everybody on the stage :)

POE TRUTH OR DARE TIME! Who would you rather marry? Pam Bachelor or Philomena Cunk

That guy - 2015-12-31

Cunk all the way, baby.

Bort - 2015-12-31

Barry Shitpeas for me please!

Though the Shitpeas / Cunk commentary on the Syrian refugees was absolute gold.

It's solved! We all have our prom dates now. Is the discussion you mentioned in this vid? I hate to admit it but I sort of faded in and out when I put this on and probably won't have time to watch it until it's off the front page, since most of my poesting is done on the bus or at work :)

chumbucket - 2015-12-31

Best year ever.

Anybody know that song at the beginning? I heard it sampled on a Vaporwave compilation that I got on Spotify a while back and it's called Computer Genius by Mensa Incorporated or You Are Here by Nathan Fake, but I heard it on this show at least a few years before. I also feel like I've heard it before either, out of context but I can't remember where! Is it just one of those News Jingle songs like the PBS Newshour/All Things Considered song or something that's been around forever and Weekly Wipe's just been using it? If so, guy writing jingles for an ad agency really went the extra mile when they wrote it.

infinite zest - 2015-12-31

"Incidental Music" is the British term I was thinking of, but Jingle works for us American blokes.

nathan fake - you are here fortdax mix

so say my sources (google)

infinite zest - 2016-01-01

Yeah, that's probably right.. the show just remixes the theme each time. But I still like to think it was some guy back in the 1940s who was like "I did it!"

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2016-01-01

Did anyone else notice that the song they played during the Game of Thrones bit was actually a cover of Sesame Street?

Bort - 2016-01-02

I did. It was more appropriate last year when they were reviewing "Benefits Street".

As a non GoT watcher (for the most part, it's a good show but a billion excuses) I thought the Red Wedding was a good two years old, because I remember everybody on Facebook going bananas about OMG Game of Thrownz all of a sudden. Or is Britain like us in reverse, where I keep telling my mom that she can just download the last season of Downtown Abbey already if she wants to see it instead of sit through insufferable pledge breaks?

Aelric - 2015-12-31

Jesus Christ, this destroyed me last night. It's been one fucker of a year.

EvilHomer - 2015-12-31

WTF? How could Mr Brooker have left out the MOST IMPORTANT thing?!

Super Mario Three-gate! For fucks sake, Charlie, come on.

infinite zest - 2015-12-31

SMB3 was always interesting to me because they incorporated both Wendy O and Lemmy as King Koopa's kids' names. Was Bowzer just a big fan of punk rock?

EvilHomer - 2015-12-31

It was all a lie. All of it.

EvilHomer - 2015-12-31

There's been a fan theory floating around which claims that SMB3 was just an elaborate theatrical play. A few months back, Miyamoto himself confirmed that yes, in fact, the theory was true: SMB3 never happened, all the enemies were actors, and the entire game was just Mario running around on a stage.

infinite zest - 2016-01-01

So when did they start becoming real? The one where he starts acting like a real plumber and using a shop-vac high as fuck on Psilocybin?

EvilHomer - 2016-01-02

They may have never been real. Miyamoto has stated that he views Mario and Co as "a troupe of actors". Presumably, this was meant to be taken as a metaphorical explanation for why Mario games are so short on storylines, and why Mario canon is so spotty - Mario, like many classic Japanese video game characters, is intentionally kept vague, so he can appear in more situations, and so players can use their imagination, projecting their own stories onto him.

However, it could be that Miyamoto meant that statement to be taken literally - i.e. none of the Mario games "were real", they're all just fictional stories being told by a traveling theatrical group!

Internet people throw the phrase "ruining your childhood" around so much that it's lost almost all meaning... which is a shame, because I think here, for once, "ruining your childhood" is entirely appropriate. :(

I feel simultaneously better and worse.

Twerking, twerking, twerking towards freedom.

Happy New Year's POETV, I love each and every one of you.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2016-01-01

I've never heard of Jeremy Clarkson but he seems like an asshole. Britain, you are such a weird country sometimes.

I'm certain that there are at least a couple of musicians in the immigrant invasion, so I'm confident in comparing all of the immigrants to the Beatles.
