Wouldn't it be funny if everyone got up in arms about this, and when the prayer was translated it was from the unitarian/agnostic/reform branch of Islam?

SolRo - 2015-12-31

Could just be intended for the Saudi market and its a song about something innocuous like beating your servants or stoning adulterers.

Binro the Heretic - 2015-12-31

The dude is just so emotionally devastated by this...and yet the kid still seems to love his weird singing plain.

That guy - 2015-12-31

How can be weird AND plain.

Binro the Heretic - 2015-12-31

Wow, you really are THAT guy, huh?

infinite zest - 2015-12-31

Weird Singing Plain sounds like some band you hear on Prairie Home Companion, like retired Bob Dylan, Tom Waits and David Byrne formed some superfolk group.

That guy - 2015-12-31

I would listen to that, but.....
Byrne and Dylan would get along horribly and it would end before it started.

Potter - 2015-12-31

I want one so bad!

Also this guy is an all around douche. Who buys their kids such cheap crap?

themilkshark - 2015-12-31

Incredibly cheap crap not sold in major retailers. This was in some Asian flea market stand. His laid back outrage is deplorable.

Cena_mark - 2016-01-01

And fuck the local news station for even doing this story.

Bort - 2015-12-31

Welp, I'm off to Amazon to see if I can get one now.

infinite zest - 2015-12-31

Pick me up some wolf urine while you're there

infinite zest - 2015-12-31

I don't see what the big deal is. If it's a holiday toy then maybe they have some with Christian songs and others with Muslim? Is this any more fucked up than getting a fish that you squeeze that sings Hallelujah?

Oh right, Islamophobia

dairyqueenlatifah - 2015-12-31

I didn't know people were seriously classifying legitimate fears as "phobias" now. Huh.

Bort - 2015-12-31

I realize the Left is sometimes overeager to call people bigots, but a busted clock is right twice a day.

Especially when said clock is in the possession of a swarthy 14-year-old in a NASA t-shirt.

Cena_mark - 2016-01-01

You're saying Islamophobia is legitimate? That's rediculous. Fear of Islamic terror has been extremely overhyped by the media. There are tons of things way more likely to kill you, like the far underhyped right wing domestic terrorism. Of course they can't address that, cause that's the GOP's base.

EvilHomer - 2016-01-01

You're unlikely to be killed by *any* terrorist, whether they be Islamic terrorists at one point trained by the CIA, domestic terrorists at one point employed by the CIA, or crazy lone wolf terrorists who just happen to be the nephews of a former top-ranking CIA operative. Statistically speaking, *everything* is over-hyped by the media - that's what the media does, that's its job, to over-hype sources of danger and make them look scarier than they really are, in order to drive ratings, sell advertising space, and promote whatever social policies are currently supported by the six corporations that dictate American culture to the rest of us. This was true in the Bush years - when it was all 9/11 and Muslims - this was true in the Clinton years - when it was all cults and disgruntled Neo-Nazis - it was true even so far back as the days of Commies, Japs, and Secret Confederate Sympathizers, who were going to use habeas corpus to destroy God's Sacred Union. Terrorists are not going to kill you. Not anytime soon, at least.

EvilHomer - 2016-01-01

That said, DQL is right to question the use of the suffix "-phobia". Applying "phobia" to the end of things is simply a way of controlling thought by controlling language - the idea is to circumvent rational discourse and critical thinking by encouraging people to use dismissive, harmful language; a kind of "reverse political-correctness".

I disagree with DQL's Islamo"phobia", but she has every right to object to the use of that word.

Bort - 2016-01-01

"Applying "phobia" to the end of things is simply a way of controlling thought by controlling language - the idea is to circumvent rational discourse and critical thinking by encouraging people to use dismissive, harmful language; a kind of "reverse political-correctness"."

It CAN be a way of controlling language, or it can be a legitimate evaluation of a person's overhyped fears. Needs to be taken on a case-by-case basis.

TeenerTot - 2016-01-01

Even worse than adding "phobia"? Adding "gate" to indicate a scandal. Man I hate that.

Cena_mark - 2016-01-01

Typical attitude of bigoted Phobiagaters, in their dismissal of prejudicial phobias.

infinite zest - 2016-01-01

But "phobia's" a legitimate noun where as "gate" is just a suffix that was only appropriated after Watergate. I can have a fear of gates, but it doesn't make it a gategate.

EvilHomer - 2016-01-01

You are quite correct, Mr Bort; things should be considered on a case-by-case basis! Of course, as with many other buzzwords (such as "fascism"), there can be little doubt that the current spate of phobia-labelling can be attributed primarily to simple prejudiced thinking, rather than speakers taking the time to carefully and fairly consider each individual case, whenever they use such a word.

I'd wager that at least 98% of the time, when someone levels an accusation of "phobia" at another person, it is NOT a carefully researched, clinically-accurate evaluation of a person's overhyped fears! For every ChrisChan-circa-2009 (whose "homophobia" was, I believe, literally phobic), there are two-score DQLs (who does not appear to be "phobic", just a concerned and rational dissenter). What's more, even those few ChrisChan's are rarely ever approached in a legitimate, evaluatory fashion - in a case like his, the man-on-the-street is prone to use "-phobic" words correctly, yet for all the wrong reasons.

Cena - I wouldn't call myself a Phobiagater. Rather, I am a Phobiaphobe, or perhaps a Phobiagaterphobe. So please stop being a Phobiagaterphobe-phobe, it is very triggering!

memedumpster - 2016-01-01

Dear Al Qaeda,

*NSA dude just shat himself and sat up*

If you enacted 9-11 for ANY reason more nuanced than "because Billy Big Mouth Bass pisses us off," you have wasted your time on a populace that just will never get it. Thank you for slapping a nation of hundreds of millions retards, then wondered why they all went into a rage and beat themselves uncons....

Okay, now I understand. Welcome to poeTV, Al Qaeda, you win.
