Champion's prerogative.

HOW YA LIKE THAT PRIMA DONNA!?

Quad9Damage - 2016-01-06

This game is obviously popular because a bunch of people are playing it. I've also heard and seen evidence that it's really shitty. Who do I believe?

infinite zest - 2016-01-06

I haven't played it but I don't see much of a difference between this and New Vegas based on videos, except for better graphics and some social stuff to do, but I'll also update you if I actually get to New Vegas in the next year, pesky Deathclaws.

I guess the world doesn't appeal to me as much as the other Fallout games which is pretty much why I like to play games in the first place. For example, GTA might have better gameplay than Saints Row, but I like the Saints Row world and it's ridiculous story, which NV was touching on with its weirdness and lack of seriousness. Basically it's the difference between A Boy and His Dog vs. Terminator to me. But if I ever beat the game and can afford a new computer, I'll let you know in 201X after I download the thing.

but this looks like too much fun right here, glad there's going to be mods like these because there's a lot more world to fuck around with if you have a PC than there was with skyrim.

I don't see how anyone can say FO4 is "shitty." It's a lot of fun to play if you like the Bethesda-style RPG. I have finished the main storyline and done just about everything there is to do in the game (I had a lot of time to myself this holiday) and I think the game is great, but having said that, I think it falls slightly short of FO3. Even without the expansions, FO3 felt like it had more going on. There are fewer missions that actually have stories and a lot of the game (too much of it, really) is driven by those "Radiant quests" that first appeared in Skyrim; the thing where someone gives you continuous, randomly generated tasks. In Skyrim, the Radiant quests were used mostly as "jobs" for factions and not really as a significant part of the story. In FO4, way too much of the game is just radiant quests. It feels like for all the effort they put into certain things, they didn't put as much effort into the emergent storytelling that made FO3 work so well. There are still a lot of places to explore and many of them have built in storyline if you pay attention, but it felt like something was just off. The combat is a lot more fun, I will definitely say.

Its good and ive definitely got my moneys worth out of it, however i agree that it falls short of FO3.

My biggest gripe is the setup. The previous Fallouts allowed you to justify many of your actions based on the basement dweller/wasteland dweller background of your character (see: being a dick) however it is much harder to find a roleplay justification for assholery when you literally just woke up from being a 1950s alll-american family man/housewife.

I suppose you could make some sort of ptsd explanation, but really it just doesnt feel right. As a result, it feels like you have alot less choice in this game and the whole affair feels more linear. I would say it feels more like FO1 in terms of storytelling (that too suffered from the above imo)

Tldr, graphics are good, combat is fun, but New Vegas is still the best RPG.

Heres to hoping that bethesda gets off thier asses with the GECK so the mod community can start fixing it.

A lot of people are saying it's shitty because they themselves are bitter, cold-hearted, autistic nerds (hello, NMA!). On the flip side, easy-going, fun-loving autistic people will find a lot to love in Fallout 4.

FO4 is great. The story is shitty and easily the worst so far in the Fallout series; however, the gameplay, and the world you have to play in, are much improved.

garcet71283 - 2016-01-06

I agree with Homer that it has the best gameplay, when evaluated separate from the series prior entries. I even like the leveling system and hope the next Elder Scrolls does something similar. Getting something every level is a fantastic carrot-on-a-stick and the difficulty curve actually makes you want to level up, instead of beating you over the head (Morrowind & Oblivion, I'm looking at you).

I just wish the RPG aspects were stronger. I think having a voiced main character is probably the biggest cause of this, since having to voice that many dialog options is really expensive.

That said, the game did make me build a new computer. There hasn't been a game that has done that for me since probably Oblivion, so that's something I suppose.

Also, stars for Macho Man anything.

Juice Eggs McKenna - 2016-01-07

The fun stopped for me after about 80 hours. My Fallout 3 and Skyrim characters each have over 200 hours and show no signs of quitting. Fallout 4 has a lot of good elements but lacks staying power.

Sanest Man Alive - 2016-01-06

Stars for all Macho mods
Favorited for reminding me of "Be a Man"

Also, it's nice to see even a facsimile of a racist asshole get stomped hard.
