I hate to say this, but I'm not surprised that this happened: CN also edited a full-on makeout scene down to a peck on the cheek in the show Clarence, which kinda destroyed the context.

EvilHomer - 2016-01-12

I don't see any "gay censorship" here; just a couple of minor edits to remove somewhat racy material from what is (let's be honest) a show for young children. You can clearly see their intent at 2:09, where Minitrue removes a shot of Gogeta, a woman, gyrating in front of Steven, a man. Nothing "lesbian" about that at all!

Leave it to Bronieversers to exaggerate and distort facts.

Old_Zircon - 2016-01-12

Yeah, I've got to agree with you, this seems less a case of "UK censors gay material" and more a case of "USA loves sexualized children's cartoons."

infinite zest - 2016-01-12

Thing about SU and Clarence (as well as Teen Titans Go) is that they have a TVPG rating, so there are certain paths where they can tread where most kids' cartoons don't want to go. It's just like that old Two Mommies book: moms would read that to their kids, but that's exactly what PG means. Maybe sit down with your kid and explain that shit and watch it together.

Cena_mark - 2016-01-12

We're not distorting the facts. The USA is far more prudish than the UK, yet we're ahead of the curve when it comes to gay rights. When you're outpruding the USA you're doing something wrong.

EvilHomer - 2016-01-12

No, Cena, you're not. The Beeb has been pushing the gay rights agenda longer and harder than anyone here in the US, and thanks to Britain's cavalier disregard for free speech, you can actually get in *legal* trouble for being homophobic, something which does not happen in the States. (Americans prefer less formal types of discrimination, like job terminations and trials-by-media)

The USA is far more prudish, full stop.

Cena_mark - 2016-01-12

Then where are their lesbian rock cartoons?

EvilHomer - 2016-01-12

Ooooh, well lookee here, Cena, what is this I just found?

!!! NSFW and illegal in Canada and the UK (Rebecca Sugar drawn CP)!!!:

Did I not just point out that the censorship was most likely over sexual material in a children's cartoon?! Things are starting to become clear now.

Cena_mark - 2016-01-12

So she went through an awkward teenage phase of drawing yaoi, she grew out of it. Also the view of love she portrays in the show is not sexual, she just makes the dancing a little bit rique.

EvilHomer - 2016-01-12

You never grow out of that stuff, Cena, you just become better at hiding it. And evidently she's not hiding it well enough, because Minitrue picked up on that filthiness quick as you like.

Cena_mark - 2016-01-12

Minitrue? Who's that?

EvilHomer - 2016-01-12

The Ministry of Truth. Controls all media in the UK. Protects the British people from capitalism, Arabs, and porn (like Steven Universe, which as you know, is lesbian hentai).

Cena_mark - 2016-01-12

They sound like they protrude too much on freedom of speech. You of all people should be against such nanny state nonsense. If people there don't want to look at Rebecca Sugar's old Ed, Edd, and Eddy Yaoi they don't have to, but they don't need the government to step in.

EvilHomer - 2016-01-13

Of course I'm nanny stating, but I'm also against lies and misrepresentations, which is what these StevenU fans are peddling here. If they had said "Look, we have this show, it was drawn by an admitted l0licon pornographer, and now the British censors are trying to remove abusive sexual material that will otherwise be seen by grade-schoolers", then maybe we could have a serious discussion.

EvilHomer - 2016-01-13

^against

Cena_mark - 2016-01-13

When did you become such a Tipper Gore? If MLP had material like this and was getting censored, you'd be against it. You're just hating on SU, cause you know it's the best cartoon on TV.

EvilHomer - 2016-01-13

Well, two things. First, obviously I need a contrary point of view here, because otherwise there'd be nothing to discuss. And second, I'm not at all convinced that letting a known child-pornographer expose British children to sexually explicit material is in anyone's interest. Forget being a Tipper Gore; not even Ron Paul or Kucinich goes so far as to allow pedoforks like Rebecca Sugar free reign in society.

Cena_mark - 2016-01-13

You act like she's still making yaoi of underaged cartoon characters. She was just a nerdy awkward teen. You're making a mountain out of this. I haven't heard any outcry over this from anyone but you.
She's not a pedofork you dork.

EvilHomer - 2016-01-13

Oh, so what, you think she got "cured"? One day she's a 'fork, next day, MAGICALLY, (through the power of Jesus, I suspect) she's hunky-dory, all back to normal?

I doubt that very much.

You remember Jimmy Saville? You remember all the shit the BBC had to put up with in the wake of his exposure? Sugar's a small fish, and she's not worth the headache it would take to keep her covered up. The UK is right to err on the side of caution.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2016-01-12

I still haven't seen this show except for clips here but that was a gutsy metaphor for a kids cartoon. The fact they become one? Wow. I don't know this show's mythology but that was pretty obviously something more going on, even a kid can see that.

EvilHomer - 2016-01-12

Sadly, you're overthinking this! It's not a metaphor and it's not even "this show's" mythology; it's plagiarized content, stolen from here:

Cena_mark - 2016-01-12

It's not plagarized. It's an omage. Like this clip.

In SU fusion is a deeper more awesome thing than it was in DBZ. Sugar kicked it up a notch.

EvilHomer - 2016-01-12

Xenocide - 2016-01-12

This is like saying DBZ "plagiarized" Fist of the North Star because they both have super-powered karate.

EvilHomer - 2016-01-12

Super-powered karate is an extremely generalized trope; DBZ fusions are not. Furthermore, RRS' theft of fusions follows an impossible-to-deny pattern: Stevenchu is filled with characters, tropes, even entire scenes shot-for-shot, all lifted from anime she used to watch!

It's as if I came up with an idea for a Brand New Science Fiction Series, and said that, in my series, space knights who follow the magical Way fight each other with these glowing weapons called Light Swords. Also everyone is a lesbian and the color scheme is a washed-out pastel. NOT PLAGIARISM, TOTAL ORIGINAL COPYRIGHT ME.

Sanest Man Alive - 2016-01-12

You seem upset.

15th - 2016-01-12

Stop the presses that print about shitty cartoons.

Cena_mark - 2016-01-12

It's one of the most critically acclaimed shows on TV. You're a fool if you think SU is shitty.

Cena_mark - 2016-01-12

The censorship in the Arab world is even worse. Here's what they did to Ruby and Saphire's first fusion scene.

Sanest Man Alive - 2016-01-12

Should I be surprised? They would have to have done something other than exactly what I expected for me to feel that.

I am disappointed in the crappy editing, though. This comparison vid is pretty mild in that regard.

Now I wonder how either region handled Stevonnie, seeing as that was two kids of different races (one human, one half-gem) merging together into a cute, androgynous Frankenstein.

Cena_mark - 2016-01-12

Ha, I thought when you said "two kids of different races" that you were meaning white and Indian.

Sanest Man Alive - 2016-01-12

That was kinda the unspoken joke, yes. Actually, Stevonnie also being the only fusion comprising different sexes is probably a more important detail to censors than race of any sort.

Bort - 2016-01-12

But don't you see, you're making the same mistake they are if you call it "gay censorship". Call it "bad censorship".

BiggerJ - 2016-01-12

but but but minority so Hitler

Bort - 2016-01-12

There's a chance I was playing obtuse and misreading what is meant by "gay censorship" as a dumb joke. And by "dumb" I mean "lame", or perhaps "retarded" or "Mexican".

Xenocide - 2016-01-12

Censorship aside, that's a terrific song. I always liked how the show doesn't treat Greg like a loser even though he never became a rock star; in fact it emphasizes that he's actually really talented (though more as a guitarist than singer) instead of going for the easy joke of him just sucking.

Anyway, it's a great new world we live in when editing a lesbian almost-kiss out of a cartoon causes more outrage than the uncut scene itself did.

Cena_mark - 2016-01-12

Good point. Greg's character highlight's the importance of music to the show.

Rosebeekee - 2016-01-12

So if drawing fan art gets you death and rape threats from SU fans, what does censorship in another country get?

EvilHomer - 2016-01-12

Ohmygod, how did I miss this?!

http://imgur.com/a/USROb

Thanks, Rosebeekee! ***** for you.

EvilHomer - 2016-01-12

HAHAHAHAHA

REBECCA SUGAR IS A PEDOFORK!

Cena_mark - 2016-01-12

That's old news. The perps were just a small group of Tumlr jerks. The fandom as a whole didn't condone. This has more to do with out of control SJWs rather than SU fans. What kind of social justice is there in driving a girl suicide over the way she drew Rose or Garnet.

EvilHomer - 2016-01-12

You let this abuse happen. You sat by and said nothing. You all share the blame.

Cena_mark - 2016-01-12

I had no idea it was happening. I would have stopped it had I known. I would have contacted all of her harrassers and referred them to this sight.

EvilHomer - 2016-01-12

I'm sure that's what many Germans told themselves in 1945. You might not have known the specifics, but you should have seen the writing on the wall - you should have known to be vigilant, and started resisting the system *before* it nearly killed that poor young lady.

Cena_mark - 2016-01-12

She was given shit for drawing Fluttershy as a Native American. Some bronies might have been on hurting her too.

EvilHomer - 2016-01-13

Bronies have drawn Fluttershy as a bee, a fluffball, a Japanese schoolgirl, a vampire, a guy, an emo kid, a tree, a human, a human with large breasts, a serial killer, a slave, a bloody slab of mutilated ponymeat that's being transformed into a tree, a rapper, a Nazi, and being eaten by a snake.

The most the brony community would do is ask the artist to tag properly, and tell the haters to check their filters if they insist on being sensitive Nancies.

Spaceman Africa - 2016-01-12

they should have censored the entire show
