I love this album so much, but I remember when I first got it in high school I hated it. I guess like Bowie, I got into Pop via something else (Iggy Pop = Trainspotting, of course) so this didn't have the same sonic boom to it that The Stooges records or the rest of his solo records did. Then I realized somewhere along the line that that's the point.

It's not very specific about how, but according to the wikipedia article on The classic Stooges album RAW POWER, David Bowie helped get Iggy Pop off heroin. He not only collaborated on this album, he played keyboards with Iggy's band on tour, all the time refusing to speak to the press and deflect attention from Iggy.

You can't remember Bowie without remembering the work he did with and for other artists. With Mick Ronson, he also produced and performed on my favorite Lou Reed Album, TRANSFORMER, and FAME was a collaboration with John Lennon.

I think my favorite Reed album was Berlin, but that's mostly because of Caroline Says pt. 2, which is a personal thing with me. Transformer's amazing too though. Bowie could do no wrong.
