This confuses the shit out of me. Redpill is clearly excited about smacking uppity women around, but that would imply that they disagree with patriarchal notions about male-on-female violence.

I guess they're saying that now that we have feminism, men are going to start defending themselves against physical attacks from women. And this is a horrible contrast to the (hypothetical) pre-feminist days when men had to just sit there and take the abuse?

Someone please explain this to me. Like, how does it work in THEIR brains?

Nikon - 2016-01-23

You might be overthinking this.
Couldn't it be as simple as

(1) Start shit
(2) Get hit

?

Xenocide - 2016-01-23

They hate women and want an excuse to hit them. That's it.

There are literally hundreds of thousands of idiots on Reddit and 4chan who think "well since feminists want equality then I guess it's okay for me to punch women" is a totally insightful and not-insane point to make.

ashtar. - 2016-01-23

Opening doors and shit is way worse oppression than anything women ever faced. These are brave equality warriors standing up for the most marginalized group in our society: white, straight men.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-01-23

MRAs are all about blaming feminism for everything that's inconvenient about sexism. It's more acceptable for women to hit men than for men to hit women, disproving feminism.

Women sometimes take advantage of this, and it's definitely, pardon me, a dick move. In 1983, a woman, a friend, who I'd attack me physically. She was a friend who I'd been staying with for a few days, and she was angry that I wasn't paying enough attention her, and she just lost her mind. I'd always known that she was crazy, but I was pretty naive about the whole thing, on account of I really wanted to bang her. She was getting right up in my face and started slapping me over and over. and shrieking like an angry banshee. None of it hurt, but I sure wanted it to stop! I didn't hit her back, but I shoved her toward the bed and she slipped and fell on her ass. The police came, and I asked them to stay while I gathered my things, and went to stay with my brother.

The humiliation of the police having been called escalated the whole thing for her. She started telling our mutual friends that I'd beaten her up, and when none of them believed her, she told some other guy, who probably wanted to bang her, and one morning I woke up to find the crazy bitch, whose name was Flora, standing over me with two big guys who forced me to sit still while she gestured like Norah Desmond, ranted about how I had mistreated her and demanded that I go to all our friends and "Tell them the truth!" The cops were called in, and one thing I learned in subsequent days and weeks that I was one of the few friends of Flora who had never actually hit her.

I forgot what the point of this anecdote was supposed to be.

Hey John, serious question: why don't you ever vlog?

I mean, you make videos; you've got a lot of experience editing and it's obviously something you're keen on doing. But all your of videos are weird and psychedelic! I think maybe you'd be good at doing actual MRA/feminist vlogs.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2016-01-23

Well I'm no MRA, but literally anyone--man or woman-- who swings at someone else and then invokes the law of "nyah nyah uuuuuu caaaan't hiiiiit meeee" deserves to be fucking punched.

Nikon - 2016-01-23

Well yeah -

(1) start shit
(2) get hit

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-01-24

I'm opposed to capital punishment, but that doesn't mean there aren't people in the world who deserve to die.

The world is full of people who deserve to be punched, but punching them is not necessarily going to make the world a better place. Also sometimes, when someone seems to be asking for it, they really are asking for it. They want you to play a role in their drama.

Punching people is one of those things that works better in movies than in life. (Torture is another.)

Feminism really needs to address this problem. Hitting a man and counting on gender taboos to protect them is one of the most antifeminist things a woman can do. I'm guessing that not enough is said about this because it comes off as blaming the victim.

Homer, I've thought about making vlogs on this subject. Maybe someday. If I'm convinced I can make a thoughtful contribution, and not just join in the big youtube flame war that isn't helping anyone.

EvilHomer - 2016-01-24

I think you should just go for it. The weekend is young, the internet is fertile...

C'moooon!

X-Files revival premiere tomorrow!

Is it going to suck? It's probably going to suck :(

At least the mythology episodes will. I'm still holding out hope for the monster episodes.

infinite zest - 2016-01-23

I just don't see where the show can go. And TXF was probably my favorite show, even the weird and kinda shitty ones. Conspiracy Theory and Government coverups were kind of a new concept to the masses when the show came out, but now your average network TV watcher has probably heard someone say that 9/11 was a coverup, we never went to the moon, Oswalt didn't do it, things like that. But I'll still watch it. Maybe Mulder punches Scully for mouthing off this time around! Only one way to find out on Non Stop Fox right after the Pointsball Championsihps!

Nominal - 2016-01-23

The series came at a special time after the cold war (and Desert Storm 1) but before 9/11 when the country needed something new to be paranoid about.

The mythology parts really were awful though. Prototype Lost template, lost of confusing promises but no payoff.

infinite zest - 2016-01-23

Yeah that's what I'm kind of afraid of with the reboot; I was never a fan of Arrested Development really, but people demanded it come back so it was just a "where are they now" sort of thing when it did. And six episodes really isn't enough to cover a lot.

I mean, I'll still download them. I was equally cynical about Better Call Saul at first, like everything would just be a walk down memory lane, and it wasn't what I expected at all! But honestly I think it could've been done in less episodes with tighter less rambly plotlines, so I guess we'll see!

simon666 - 2016-01-23

There was an interesting point in YT comments (I know weird) for the video of the neurologist resident in Miami who destroyed the that Uber driver's car while drunk. It suggested that because the neurologist was a woman, and because of our norm to protect women from violence, at least in public, that was why she remained unrestrained the entire time. If someone had tried to restrain her, preventing her from destroying the car and pushing the driver around, they would have been immediately accosted by passersby trying to protect the woman.

There probably needs to be a more nuanced position between 'start shit get hit' and 'never ever get physical with a woman.' Women often are abusers in relations and do get into plenty of physical altercations in public, just like men. (I know of a few abusive lesbian and hetero relationships personally.) Being able to prevent a woman from abusing someone should be allowed, even if that requires force. But the use of force to restrain should also not be abusive either.

simon666 - 2016-01-23

I don't know who red pill or whatever is, but if this kind of video gets them off, then I don't care to know about them.

magnesium - 2016-01-23

You'd think defensive violence = good, retaliatory violence = bad would be a pretty simple concept to grasp, but apparently not. To be fair, though "If someone does something you don't like, you can hit them," is one of the first lessons my generation learned from our parents.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2016-01-23

So wait, what exactly is the guy supposed to do? Like seriously? Just stand there and let the woman whale on him?

I know that woman are frail and emotional and have zero control over their actions, but maybe they could, I dunno, not start a fistfight with a larger, stronger person?

Nominal - 2016-01-23

Restrain?

Fuck the pussy bystanders in all these kind of videos though. No one makes an effort to break it up, but if the guy made a move to even restrain her THEN they would jump into action...against the guy. Why not do something BEFORE it turns ugly?

It's this really fucked up mentality of "just let it play out" whenever there's one or more women involved in a fight. If two dudes start going at it people would be diving to separate the them, even though the risk of injury is greater. None of the gawking idiots in these try to defuse what are obviously dangerous situations up until the point someone's jaw is already broken.

infinite zest - 2016-01-23

I was in an abusive marriage for years, meaning she'd beat up on me, usually while intoxicated, because something I couldn't fix, like when our house got broken into, things like that. She was a waif but I wouldn't care if it was Ronda Rousey or Chyna, who could take me down in 1 second. You try to size up the situation and when that doesn't work you just walk away from that shit best you can. And that applies to boys and girls. And domestic violence is nothing new: guys beat up their spouses all the time regardless of the era and there'll always be crazy drunk bitches and bros in the world.

Problem with this video (and the culture) is the philosophy behind it, glorifying violence towards women specifically because of the violent behavior towards women, saying that now we're equal! We got what we wanted. Yay men! It'd be like glorifying a white man being able to sit down next to a black man and exchanging racial slurs. The "because you do it to me I can do it to you" reactionism is not productive at all.

Nominal - 2016-01-23

That's what I meant. Part of the walk away approach should be bystanders not being such cowards and moving to separate any two people who get like this long before punches are thrown.

infinite zest - 2016-01-23

Yeah our comments overlapped. With my own situation I was thinking of more what I'd do if nobody else was around to help intervene. This was also back before you could really take videos on your phone except for really choppy ones if you were some kind of billionaire.

Every situation's different of course. Given my line of work I'm attacked at random a lot, and it's illegal for me to fight back, so there's something called "intervention." "Restraint" is actually a bad word, even though my training told me how to restrain someone.. I dunno anyway it's just a means of dodging punches and if necessary getting someone in a hold without causing any physical pain.

infinite zest - 2016-01-23

Whoops didn't totally finish my thought there.. anyway people want to intervene when I'm in public because to them it looks like a drunk guy is attacking me and I have to explain the situation and that I can't, but if some guy was sitting there filming me I'd calm down the situation, first politely go up to the guy with the phone and smash it into tiny pieces.
