Kill all gamers.

Cena_mark - 2016-01-23

Oh come on. All subcultures have their obnoxious obsessives. I'm not a gamer, but I spend too much time and money on music.

Old_Zircon - 2016-01-23

I'm glad I don't have any annoying, internet-fake-autistic hobbies.

Apropos of nothing, does anyone want to hear about how I swapped the rare ATAPI card reader from my MPC2000xl MCD into the new Roland VP-9000?

Cena_mark - 2016-01-23

That's sounds pretty cool. I can tell you about all 6 of my drum machines.

Xenocide - 2016-01-23

Yeah, but music fans don't form entire internet subcultures dedicated to bullying women who make music.

Go to a hipster bar and hear "you mean you haven't heard about ____?" for the rest of the night from vinyl scientists. This guy's been around as a musical hipster since the beginning of music. He's just usually the one who talks your goddamn ear off before a show. No I didn't know about their side project from 1993, but please tell me all about it while the opening band plays.

Problem is, for whatever reason gamers seem to be attracted to this kind of person whereas I'm just annoyed by the excitable hipster I described above.

Old_Zircon - 2016-01-23

"Xenocide
Yeah, but music fans don't form entire internet subcultures dedicated to bullying women who make music."

They don't need to, historically the music industry has handled that in house pretty well.

Old_Zircon - 2016-01-23

Not as bad as the stand up world, but pretty bad.

Old_Zircon - 2016-01-23

IZ, as someone who spent a lot of time in hipster bars and a lot of time working at record stores I can assure you most of those hipsters who like to talk about ostensibly obscure music don't know shit. You want to really get in to it, find a good DJ or beatmaker.

Old_Zircon - 2016-01-23

The thing about hipsters is very few of them are willing to risk their reputation by actually exploring music that hasn't already been approved by the tastemakers in their peer group (much like the jam scene,in my experience). Sure they'll try to outdo each other by namedropping the most obscure artists they know within their peer approved niches but they don't tend to actually explore. The record store I worked at actually instituted an informal policy of not stocking trendy newer music (especially 7" stuff) back in the early 90s because they didn't want to attract too many people like that and fuck up the atmosphere (which is perhaps the most classic grouchy old record store guys move I've ever seen). Same reason they stopped advertising completely in the mid 80s and only grudgingly accepted record store day after quite a few years of ignoring it. The end result was that it was easily the best record store I've been to in the greater Boston area, and one of the best in New England period. One of their sister stores broke form and started stocking lots of newer stuff, trendy reissues, and doing lots of special orders, and they were almost bankrupt in a few years.

With crate diggers it's the opposite, that whole culture is about individual exploration and discovery, and for all of the competitiveness they tend to be the most openminded, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable music types I encounter. Hipsters are more like Pokemon collectors or something.

There used to be a joke among the old record store folks I knew that Thurston started Ecstatic Peace to sell throwaway hipster bait for money he used to buy old psychedelic records he actually cared about. I don't think it's true but it's not entirely implausible either.

Oh I love having conversations about music, I was just making an analogy to the annoying hipster being like people who seem to get more YT hits the louder and more annoying they are for their LetsPlays and, uhh whatever the guy in this video's going on about.

Kill all synthers

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2016-01-23

The term "gamers" is no longer relevant. Computer games form an incredibly broad and ubiquitous artform. We dont call people who like fims 'filmers', or people who read books 'bookers'.

Chocolate Jesus - 2016-01-23

mr gorilla is right

FABIO - 2016-01-23

Who the hell under 40 DOESN'T play video games these days?

SolRo - 2016-01-23

Closeted cubicle drones, sucking their managers cock during their lunch break, hoping beyond hope that they'll be the next in line for a promotion.

That guy - 2016-01-23

There are clearly points in this where he's trying to be as awful as possible. How many times can one cunt force himself to accidentally fall out of his chair with willful excitement?

infinite zest - 2016-01-23

Have fun with this one then

If I had been born 15 years later and with no dignity I would be rich.
