Most people think like that as teenagers.

Most people do grow out of it, though.

That guy - 2016-01-24

You mean non-sociopaths?

Binro the Heretic - 2016-01-25

In 1997, when Cruz was the Solicitor General for Texas, a man named Michael Haley stole a calculator from Walmart.

Normally, he would have been sentenced to a maximum of 2 years, but the prosecutor "mistakenly" tried him as a "habitual offender" and Haley was sentenced to a mandatory 16-year sentence. When the mistake was caught way after 2 years had passed, Haley's attorney wanted him to be released. Cruz took the case all the way to the US Supreme Court to keep Haley locked up for the full 16.

The justices sided with Haley who was released after serving six years.

Two Jar Slave - 2016-01-24

How could they resist throwing "...that sort of stuff" onto the end of his campaign slogan?

Two Jar Slave - 2016-01-24

Oh and stars.

That guy - 2016-01-24

I asked myself the same question. Opportunity missed.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2016-01-24

I would totally fuck young gay Ted Cruz. The one that would meet me surreptitiously in alleyways and special parks at night, always looking behind him covertly, suspiciously, then flash me a smug smirk I'd wipe away as I crammed my dick down his eager, cum-craving throat.

But not now. He's too pudgy and he would probably talk down to me to the point where I would just have to keep full mast the entire time I was with him just to shut him up. And those situations are just always awkward.

Don Taye - 2016-01-24

I like you ROUS. You good people.

Needtodestroy - 2016-01-24

Live that dream, ROUS.

Two Jar Slave - 2016-01-25

I guess this is supposed to be rowdy and empowered because it's supah gay, but it just comes off as supah inappropriate to me!! :D

That guy - 2016-01-25

ROUS famously is into only really lame or crappy guys.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2016-01-26

correction: I like really lame or SCRAPPY guys. There's a difference.

Hazelnut - 2016-01-26

Hooray for ROUS

BHWW - 2016-01-25

The most amazing part of this video is someone he went to high school with hates him enough all these years later to leak it.

The word on the street is that NOBODY likes Cruz, especially in DC. Staffers, fellow legislators on both sides of the aisle, government functionaries, everyone finds him insufferable. I can believe it, because his voice is obnoxious and he has all the charm of a stereotypical sleazy, glad-handing used car salesmen.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2016-01-25

One of those is his former college roommate Craig Mazin, who hates him so much he has pretty much been telling the entire world about it for years now, and has made frequent jokes about how he wanted to kill Cruz by smothering him with a pillow to shut him up.

Ocyrus - 2016-01-26

Rodents: The roommate stated he'd literally vote for a random person out of the phonebook before voting for Cruz.

jangbones - 2016-01-25

you have been given the power to name the next president of the United States, but your choices are Donald Trump and Ted Cruz....who do you choose?

show your work

Binro the Heretic - 2016-01-25

Cruz.

It would be the last snowflake that causes the avalanche.

SolRo - 2016-01-25

c) I use the scratch paper to slice my wrists open

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2016-01-25

Uh, depends. Cruz, from a liberal-lefty perspective, would be just awful. A true mean-spirited ideologue with the political smarts to get things done. Electing Trump would be like electing a right-wing version of Hugo Chavez, but it sure would shake a lot of people out of a lot of complacent ideas about who Americans are and how our democracy works.

As for the nomination, I pray that Trump gets it. Assuming that the Demos don't fuck it up and choose Sanders, the election would make Reagan/Mondale look hard-fought.

Binro the Heretic - 2016-01-25

But with Cruz, you can tell all your apathetic friends, "See what happens when you don't get off your ass and vote." Cruz would likely also face the same congressional deadlock Obama had to deal with.

Trump, on the other hand, is a slick huckster. He could get all sorts of horrible things through that would strengthen the oligarchy without the rabble being roused enough to grab torches & pitchforks.

chumbucket - 2016-01-25

Oh easy, Cruz because I want to see Donald throw a 4 year long hissy fit on his new Fox News show.

infinite zest - 2016-01-25

I'd rather go with Trump. It's hard to get much done in 4 (it's not even 4) years anyway and Trump would just be the funny face of the USA for a while. What scares me are those WITH political experience, like LBJ or Bush Sr, who WERE able to get a lot done in those years, like Cruz potentially could, vs. Trump, who I'd imagine would get his batshit crazy proposals shot down by Dems and Reps. It'll just be bread and circuses for the American people.

infinite zest - 2016-01-25

And also what Henderson's Class sez, but this is some other dimension where Clinton and Sanders never existed, I think..

EvilHomer - 2016-01-25

You'll never have the power to choose the president, and the course of the nation wouldn't change even if you could. Give me the power to pick the next director of the CIA or World Bank president, then maybe we can talk.

But yes, "hypothetically speaking". Hypothetically speaking, if you told me I had the power to pick the next US President, I would probably say - to hell with that. Show me where in the Constitution it says that any one man could be given, let alone *should* be given, that kind of power. I'd refuse to pick simply as a matter of principle, and I'd probably send all of your names to WikiLeaks, in order to let the masses know that there's been a blatant attempt to circumvent the democratic process.

If I had to *vote* for one of them (which, given that voting is a purely symbolic act, is at best pointless), then I'd vote for neither. I'd vote for a third candidate. If I simply had to pick which one I'd mind the least, with no binding political ramifications riding on my choice, then I'd probably say Cruz, because at least he's not friends with Hillary and, as Binro points out, Trump is likely to become Obama 2.0 (we need a president that the average man feels comfortable hating right now). HOWEVER, when all is said and done, Trump's the one I'm rooting for, if for no other reason than I gotta have solidarity with Ivanka. If you grow up in a Boston family, you cheer for the Red Sox. That's just how it is.

infinite zest - 2016-01-25

Yeah I guess jangbones' question left the "not voting at all" option on the table, but if you don't vote then you have no right to complain. That's what I'm worried about on the left: I saw a poll that was something like 75% for Bernie in the 18-29 demographic (12% undecided and 13% for Hillary), and a gradual slide to Hillary as it gets older in age. I seriously doubt if Bernie's going to pull a Ralphie either, so that's a HUGE demographic of young people who potentially don't vote because now they don't care, because they lost their punk-as-fuck Prez. And Bernie IS punk-as-fuck. He's besties with Killer Mike and you've got t-shirts like this:

http://tinyurl.com/z8hr3by

But honestly I don't think it's enough, so millennials will throw their hands up and say "fuck it" and in walks the next prez, Tonald Crump.

EvilHomer - 2016-01-25

Bernie seems nice enough, but unfortunately, that's exactly what I was saying about Obama and McCain back in '08, Kerry and Clark back in '04. Bernie is definitely the most libertarian-friendly candidate of the "four candidates chosen by the mainstream media for our consideration", but that's not likely to matter much - the revolution will not be televised, and it certainly won't come from someone whose political philosophy is predicated on increasing centralized power.

I'm ready for Donald. I've pretty much resigned myself to it. I think the rest of America has, too. It's time we slouched towards Trump Towers.

jangbones - 2016-01-25

I am going to go...Trump

both are batshit but I think if Trump takes office he would be absolutely powerless to accomplish anything, any experienced legislator would outmaneuver him effortlessly

Bobonne - 2016-01-26

Not being an American, I don't really matter, but I'd vote Trump over Cruz any day. I say that as someone born and raised in the city Cruz was born in, who is sick to death of all the 'go back to Canada' jokes (seriously, we don't want him, he isn't one of us any more than McCain is Panamanian).

Trump is a slick conman out for his own benefit, but he's generally sane.

Cruz is a true believer and a complete moron and a power hungry maniac.

Trump would fleece the nation as much as possible, Cruz might manage to start Armaggedon.

Adjuvant - 2021-01-24

I wouldn't say this conversation has aged well.

SolRo - 2021-01-24

I’m honestly still not sure which one would have been worse.

Is eating tiger shit worse than eating cheetah shit?

cognitivedissonance - 2016-01-25

He looks like a Pez dispenser.

15th - 2016-01-25

I just can't believe this unlikeable asshole grew up to be Ted Cruz.
