The film/tv series that made trench coats with samurai swords a thing.

Nominal - 2016-01-28 The company that owns the show provides raw footage clips to video editing classes for practice lessons.
I practically memorized the dialog to that 19th century London episode.

This was a pretty good show. I liked it as a kid, and even rewatched a few episodes with my wife a couple years ago. Dunno if I'd buy a katana wristwatch or anything.
I think this show did a lot of work tilling the public imagination for things like Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. Most fantasy TV and movies came off as kiddish and extremely niche, but Highlander's duelling dudes in hose and Wuthering Heights pastiches somehow bridged the gap between boyish fantasy and grown-up-ish melodrama.

roofle - 2016-01-28 In that era, it was probably the best syndicated show outside of Star Trek TNG.
I wish they didn't fuck up the movies so badly though. It's beyond terrible when the anime is the 2nd best Highlander movie by default.

FABIO - 2016-01-28 Monkey Napoleon is not a very good pop culture historian.

Monkey Napoleon - 2016-01-31 Yeah, I'm sure everyone in the only age group that matters was introduced to fantasy through Highlander, which started airing before they were born/while they were in diapers. I'm sure it wasn't all the Zeldas and Final Fantasies and Elder Scrolls that they've been making since then and are still making and sell better than most books or movies and CERTAINLY any Highlander property.
No, it's Highlander that did it and you're not just being deliberately old.

In my freshman year of college I knew a guy who basically adopted his dress style from this show and this catalog.
He even had a katana in his dorm room.
