My "grandpas" pretty much just sat around and watched Fox News when it was a relatively new thing and I was pretty young. It always sucked because cable TV was the second best part of visiting La Crosse Wisconsin next to seeing my grandma, of course. My original grandpas were awesome, but died before I really got to know them. :(

Yeah, both my grandmas remarried (one of them 3 times) after my grandpas died. It was kind of weird. I'm fortunate to have not lost a more immediate family member, but unlike the "dad" that might replace the old one who'll hopefully do his best to love you and try not to be the replacement, even though he knows he is, and "grandpas" did nothing but sit there and talk about their own dead wives and basically neglect us grandkids. I know that doesn't apply to all "grandpas" but that was my experience, at least 4 times.

Going off topic but my favorite memory was when my OG would go for "walks" (i.e. go to the bar) when they FINALLY visited my parents in Portland, because my Grandma refused to fly. I was only 9 or 10 and the "walk" was just to the bar up the street, so I'd tag along with him because I never got to see him. He'd just order me a Roy Rogers give me some quarters and a milk crate and I played pinball while he got rather ripped at the bar. His own basement back in LaCrosse was a real-life speakeasy too, since he inhereted the house from his dad, who set it up during prohibition. Perhaps unsurprisingly he died of cirrhosis at 78, but hell, that's the way I'd want to go out too! Miss ya gramps.

I wish I had something nice to say about my other OG except for stories I've heard, he died when I was only 3 so I barely remember him. :(

Actually I think I remember Ventura either wrestling or being a commentator (maybe both) during his time as Governor, but I could be wrong. I pretty much stopped watching WWF around '95 or so, but tuned in sporadically now and again. Wrestling fans might know better than I do, but imdb seems to agree with me..

I remember when Ventura was running and everybody thought it was a joke and he had no chance, but he turned out doing a pretty good job once elected!

Yeah, I'd be lying if I didn't say I was a little bit scared: I was living in Wisconsin at the time so Minnesota wasn't only our football rival, it was just kind of a joke that I didn't have to deal with; vote for a cat dressed up like a unicorn! Sure! What's Minnesota gotta do with me?

But I've said it before; Trump, much like pro wrestling, will just be a big entertaining facade that doesn't really get anything done. He'll just be the entertaining president that we haven't really seen since Ronald Reagan (and sometimes Bill Clinton), the public will get bored after 3 1/2 years and we'll start over again.

My gut tells me that a real life President Trump would be like a more moderate McKain. My biggest worry is how bad it would be for international relations.

I think in the long run it might be a good thing. People give Reagan shit for not knowing what he was doing but via his "Tear Down This Wall" speech had a lot of impact, something I don't know if Carter or Mondale could've done. Horrible Prez, but he got shit done the way most politicians don't think to do.

But I guess Trump's the opposite, saying "Put Up This Wall.." but let's face it: that'll never happen unless there's another Mexican American War. But as far as international relations go, the biggest toughest guy in the room is usually the winner.

Did you just unironically say Reagan "got shit done?" He was literally an actor with a degenerative brain condition who was there to fill a suit while his cronies ran everything. He's famous for not reading his briefings or doing much of anything executive at all. I guess he delivered a few decent speeches but it's not like he wrote them.

You gotta admit, they do usually give better speeches.
