infinite zest - 2016-02-14 I'm glad he's no longer part of SCOTUS and is gone from this plane of existence, but I've had asshole ignorant racist homophobic grandparents-in-laws that I hated too, but I still went to their funerals and watched their own children cry and did my best to comfort them because they lost someone they love regardless of their views. If that makes me a sentimentalist then OK, fine.

Like I said this gets a shrug from me at best, just like Nixon, Wallace, Reagan, and Thurmond. Just means I'm gonna drink a 40 instead of pour one, or something like that.

I predict there won't be a ninth Supreme Court Justice until after the start of the next Congress. Best case scenario, Democrats win the Presidency and take back the Senate, and fix the filibuster on day one.
The best fix for the filibuster: the finibustering minority has to remain in the chamber at all times, or else a simple minority can break the filibuster. After all, the point of the 60-vote cloture rule is to make sure a supermajority agrees a matter has been debated to completion, right? Well if a minority feels more debate is required, they should be forced to sit and watch the debate. That way the burden shifts on to them rather than being entirely on the majority, and they can still filibuster / debate important issues if they feel the need, but will not do so frivolously.

Bort - 2016-02-14 Side note, I'm having trouble reconciling the fact that Scalia caused enough harm to be considered an enemy of a great many Americans, with the fact that Ruth Bader Ginsburg considered him one of her closest friends and by all accounts genuinely had a genuine rapport with him. I'm trying to do what RBg would no doubt appreciate -- look for the good in him -- but I'm finding it very hard to see.
Out of respect for RBG, though, I will keep looking.
