Where do you think you are? This isn't Ogrish. 1 star!

God these graphics were terrible even for the time.

It was written and programmed by a single guy, the same guy who programmed Pitfall.

It all makes sense now! He also did those shitty Simpsons NES games (ok all Simpsons games were shitty but the NES ones were extra shitty) and his last game was none other than Night Trap!

This game was kinda fun though. If I recall you could just give the blob a rootbeer and just ride over the house and pretty much be at the end of the game. So I beat it pretty easily but was still curious to try all of the different combinations, or different ways to die.

One of the vampires from Night Trap is a bartender in Olympia.

He... does not like to talk about it.

somedongus - 2016-02-22

Which bar? For the love of God which bar?

cognitivedissonance - 2016-02-22

Rhythm and Rye. He's also written a Gnostic walking tour where he states the streets of Olympia form a Tree of Life.

Cool! The closest I came to famous video game actors was this guy who'd come in and bother me at the movie theatre all the time. He had a "critics" pass but would walk out after 10 minutes and I never saw his reviews published anywhere. Anyway he loved to talk about his voicework in Leisure Suit Larry while I was trying to do inventory. Cool guy though

David Crane came up with excellent gameplay elements. Feeding a blob different flavors of jellybean to turn it into different items to help solve puzzles was a stroke of genius. It hadn't been done before. And there were lots of cool gameplay mechanics in "Bart vs The Space Mutants."

Unfortunately, Crane was just one guy and didn't have what it took to design a big elaborate game.

Still, the man gave us "Pitfall" and "Little Computer People". He stretched the definition of what a video game could be and he pushed primitive systems to do things people didn't think they could do.

Credit where credit is due, people.

I wonder if he got much in the way of royalties from those 16 bit Pitfalls (the ones that had nothing to do with PItfall's gameplay) and the relatively new B&HB reboot. Seems like most icon(oclastic) names in gaming (Meyers, Wright, Molyniux, Britain) and Pinball designers (Angelho, Ritchie) tend to at least come up with interesting new ideas, even if they seldom work the way they're promised. Crane on the other hand seems to have vanished from the gaming world like JD Salinger.

boner - 2016-02-23

Crane did a Pitfall postmortem talk at GDC: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBT1OK6VAIU

As far as I understand, he co-founded Activision because of Atari being so shitty about royalties.

memedumpster - 2016-02-22

Not enough slime based life forms in games.

Brutal.
