ROBERT FORSTER TAG!!!!

Binro the Heretic - 2016-02-23

Love this movie. It's in my DVD collection.

Since my collection is filed thematically, I have it in the same section as "Jaws", "Frogs", "Lake Placid", "Piranha" (1978) and "Up from the Depths".

There was an "Alligator" game. It was basically like the "Jaws" game but with a big plastic alligator instead of a plastic shark.

GAHAHAHA fuckin thematically filed DVD collection

Caminante Nocturno - 2016-02-24

Hey, that's how the Red Letter Media guys do it, and they're geniuses!

Binro the Heretic - 2016-02-24

Yeah, kind of like an actual library. How do you sort yours?

lotsmoreorcs - 2016-02-24

my media collection is all digital, i run KDLINKS media players through HDMIs on a 70 and 60 inch upstairs and downstairs. The KDLINKS navigation interface is purposefully modeled after Netflix, but there is no internet-dependent streaming or cloud-based component because fuck internet reliance and netflix in general!
but the menu def lends itself to organization as you can create and arrange folders to your liking.

when you get to the main menu there are four sections FILM TELEVISION SPORTS and MUSIC

inside FILM "general station" movies not associated with a specific filmmaker arranged by year 10s thru 2000s. that's where you find stuff like the Babe saga, film festival circuit stuff, just general fare like .

separately there are folders FILMMAKERS, SCIENCE FICTION, and HORROR folders again organized within by year. SCIFI and HORROR also have COLLECTIONS folders so i can easily get to CRITTERS 2 if i need it or NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (im selective when it comes to franchises like this, eschewing the completionist trend in hopes of finding the best through-line, which im sure will piss alot of DVD collection savants off)

FILMMAKERS folder obviously yields the real meat of the pile, but i organize films that way because it's fun to see George Armitage evolve from HIT MAN '72 to MIAMI BLUES '90, it's also fun to see how many filmmakers have their own little Tarantinoverse, re use actors, re-examine themes etc. ive found this is the best way for me to enjoy cinema.

a Library of DVDs, whether thematically organized or not, is a huge bummer. "let's go back to my place and check out a DVD" is going to instantly dry out any vagina under 28 years of age. fuck physical media! fuck streaming media! fuck netflix!

thematically organized DVD collection belies deeper, disturbing behavior like "texturally arranged fedoras all hanging in a row

lotsmoreorcs - 2016-02-24

*to clarify, I only consider Nightmare 1, 3 and 5 worth watching, forming something of its own loose trilogy. concepts like this begin to emerge when you program your own life

Binro the Heretic - 2016-02-24

Yeah, that's way less nerdy than my method of sorting my physical media collection.

lotsmoreorcs - 2016-02-24

the point is i dont have a physical media collection with greasy fingerprints all over it for no girls to be totally bummed out by, i have a cool magic 70 inch that plays everything without needing network tv

lotsmoreorcs - 2016-02-24

i dont care if it sounds nerdy, i have always self identified as a nerd although my body type defies it, the point is its not a shitty stack of useless discs you tried to impose your own sad narrative upon, its a seamless-by-whim rolodex (that should be a reference you understand you old fuck) of instant-grab 720p celluloid madness. i have a HUGE bedroom and i would hate to see any facet of that or my living room befouled by some retarded DVD collection. one thing i guarantee though, youve got a copy of The Big Lebowski on DVD physical media

Binro the Heretic - 2016-02-25

Meh, sometimes I'm in a mood to watch a type of movie but don't have a specific movie in mind.

I take all the DVDs and BluRays I buy out of their clamshell boxes and put them in paper sleeves. My entire collection only takes up the bottom shelf of my bookcase. With my filing method, if I want an eighties sword & sorcery movie, I just flip through that section of my collection. Maybe I'll watch "Conan the Barbarian" with Schwarzenegger or maybe I'll decide to go for the cheesy knock-off "Deathstalker" or something a little classier like "Excalibur"

Or, since it's arranged like a sort of spectrum, maybe I'll go to the end of the section with more sword and less sorcery and pick something like "Flesh & Blood" or swing to the more sorcery/less sword end and grab "Krull".

Man child death week is a rough one. At the same time I'm happy to be contributing to a website that actually has a "child death week" in the year of our lord, 2016.

lotsmoreorcs - 2016-02-24

i instituted Child Death Week in case people are keeping track

lotsmoreorcs - 2016-02-24

Man chid death week would result in the total eradication of the poetv user databse
