"Criminals are a superstitious, cowardly lot, so I must strike fear into their hearts. I must become a creature of the night, something dark, terrible...but what?"

*Bill Cosby crashes through the window*

I can't be the only one noticing the 'Batman Beyond' theme here can I?

infinite zest - 2016-03-04

To me it sounds like the opening montage music from Dead or Alive.

SolRo - 2016-03-03

anime based off anime series, what?

while japan does have weird rape fetishes, it's a bit 'stupid white american' to assume all of japan thinks rape is ok and funny because of low volume 80s manga and some porn movies based off it.

Caminante Nocturno - 2016-03-03

You'd think that people wouldn't need to have something like that pointed out to them.

Cena_mark - 2016-03-03

What about Lost in Translation?

EvilHomer - 2016-03-03

Rape fantasies are very common, even amongst Western women - in fact, studies have repeatedly found that more than half of all women, and at least 30% of men, enjoy rape fantasies. So it's not a Japanese thing, and it's not a question of people thinking IRL rape is OK - at least, not unless you want to claim that every other woman you meet is a dangerous pro-rape terrorist.

Cena - I've never seen Lost in Translation. Was Bill Murray a rapist?

EvilHomer - 2016-03-03

Also, considering that the entire superhero genre is based on the notion that exceptional individuals should monopolize crime for the sake of the greater good, it is not much of a stretch to imagine a superhero who rapes. Virtually every superhero is fine with committing assault and kidnapping (e.g. Batman beating up a robber and detaining him), many superheroes are OK with committing murder (Deadpool, Lobo, Wolverine), and a few are outright sadistic torturers (Punisher and Jack Bauer, for example). There's bound to be at least a few superheroes who keep rape in their arsenal!

Rapeman was originally conceived as satire, and I pointed this out as much as i could with what space I had. The comic was aimed at middle aged Japanese men who felt increasingly powerless in the mid 80s as post industrial Japan rolled on and the economy boomed and then shrank.

There's a really good article on the Rapeman phenomenon that even mentions Steve Albini having a band named Rapeman once.

My use of the tag fedora was to imply that many fedora types would likely not get the fucking joke and applaud the satirical behavior.

chumbucket - 2016-03-03

The only rapist superhero that comes to my mind is the Comedian. Thanks Alan Moore!

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2016-03-03

@Evilhiomer theres a bit at the end of 'lost in translation' where Bill Murrays character whispers a thing to another character but it is not audible and left as a mystery to the audience. Lipreaders have since determined that he actually whipsers "I'm gonna rape you soooooo fuuuuckiiiinnng haaaaaaaaaaaard!!"

Cena_mark - 2016-03-03

Actually I brought up Lost in Translation because of this scene.

"The comic was aimed at middle aged Japanese men who felt increasingly powerless in the mid 80s as post industrial Japan rolled on and the economy boomed and then shrank."

Is what the wiki says.

Most manga artists are just lone geeks working in closet sized room, not some focus-group run corporation.

snothouse - 2016-03-04

EvilHomer, I'm sure we would all love to see your sources on that "30% of people love rape fantasies" fact.

EvilHomer - 2016-03-04

http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2FBF01542159

Specifically, the study found that 33% of the male participants fantasized about raping a woman. An even higher percentage (45%) fantasized about having consensual sex with a partner who pretended to resist, while 46% fantasized, not about raping, but about *being* raped.

So, what I wrote was that "at least 30% of men enjoy rape fantasies", but if we're going to talk in terms of *people* (i.e. both men and women), the existing literature suggests that the percentage is far higher than 30%.

Caminante Nocturno - 2016-03-03

The Rapeman dating sim was disappointing in its lack of branching storylines.

EvilHomer - 2016-03-03

Do you have a DLsite link for that? I can't find it anywhere.

Caminante Nocturno - 2016-03-03

You don't find the Rapeman dating sim, it finds you.

memedumpster - 2016-03-03

Seems legitimate.

Caminante Nocturno - 2016-03-03

The Japanese word for 'legitimate' is 'shway'.

memedumpster - 2016-03-03

"Shway rape" is nothing a Republican will say.

duck&cover - 2016-03-03

Rapeman…of the Future!

"I, I can't get it up anymore. So I pass the mantel onto you."

Rapeman Beyond

dairyqueenlatifah - 2016-03-03

In Japan, rape is like saying hello.

infinite zest - 2016-03-04

Where's Steve Albini?
