This looks like a live action version of Xtreme Ghostbusters :\

Born in the RSR - 2016-03-03

No 90s token hot goth chick. So you're wrong.

Nominal - 2016-03-03

Something About Mary Hair more than fills that slot.

Hugo Gorilla - 2016-03-03

I wish they would do a live action version of The Real Ghostbusters instead.

Oscar Wildcat - 2016-03-03

Well that's a heck of a formula there. Take an old script, slap tits on all the characters, and roll the camera. Talk about maximizing ROI!

Adham Nu'man - 2016-03-03

AND you get to pay the stars less than if you had male equivalents!

MurgatroidMendelbaum - 2016-03-03

"But it's nothing like the original!" - 80's Nostalgia Fanboys

Needtodestroy - 2016-03-03

Lot of whining from them thats for sure.

Bort - 2016-03-03

I have to admit, I never got the appeal of the original. Bill Murray's deadpan was all right, Harold Ramis's talent for saying strange things with a straight face wasn't bad, but overall it always felt like a film people wanted to like more than they actually did.

This one could be better.

Nominal - 2016-03-03

Ghostbusters was the Velvet Underground of comedy movies?

That is an astoundingly incorrect opinion.

Needtodestroy - 2016-03-03

Maybe the Velvet Goldmine...

I mean guess technically Velvet Goldmine is the Velvet Goldmine of comedy movies... kinda?

Bobonne - 2016-03-03

The issue is that your taste is bad.

Bort - 2016-03-03

My taste is absolutely fucking terrible, but even I realize that, if your comedy is relying on the comic appeal of Murray / Ramis / Aykroyd / Hudson, at least two of them ought to be reconsidered.

Maybe we'll get Ramis in the new movie, though.

Sanest Man Alive - 2016-03-04

He'll be the first ghost they trap.

Pillager - 2016-03-03

Is 'fan fiction' a tag?

themilkshark - 2016-03-03

Funniest comedians working today

Needtodestroy - 2016-03-03

Cecily and Aidy are going to be in there too so that's another plus.

Prickly Pete - 2016-03-03

That is completely cockamamie.

Rafiki - 2016-03-03

Didn't look great, but didn't look bad either. Probably an above-average typical summer popcorn flick.

That guy - 2016-03-03

Agreed. Lukewarm is the most likely outcome.

Old_Zircon - 2016-03-03

But lukewarm is the worst.

Born in the RSR - 2016-03-03

Something about the delivery or the soundtrack is off somehow, I can't put my finger on it.

I haven't seen any other movies with these actresses so I don't know if that's their style or not. It just feels dry and forced.

That guy - 2016-03-03

Forced for sure. It feels like all of the bits were polished and re-written to death.
The original, while more good than great, was looser and less glossy.

Needtodestroy - 2016-03-03

Having grown to really like these comics and the rest of the cast I am pleased to go see this.

But hey this is just a fucking trailer to garner interest.

They weren't exactly going to pop out and be like "Two in a box!"

RedRust - 2016-03-03

Sounds like it had elements of dubstep in the original theme.

Caminante Nocturno - 2016-03-03

I'm still skeptical, but it doesn't look terrible.

Caminante Nocturno - 2016-03-08

Watching it again, it looks bad.

infinite zest - 2016-03-03

Hi

Needtodestroy - 2016-03-03

Go home you trash fire.

infinite zest - 2016-03-03

Grumpy

spikestoyiu - 2016-03-03

Ending on a "that's gonna leave a mark!" joke. Oof.

That guy - 2016-03-03

My stars go here.

Nominal - 2016-03-03

"Ah HEEEEEEEEl no!"

Raggamuffin - 2016-03-03

1. telegraph the joke.
2. do the joke.
3.explain the joke.
4. let it simmer.

my stars are withheld pending a judgement re: size mattering or not

namtar - 2016-03-03

Actually, it looks better than I thought it would. Admittedly, I didn't have high hopes for it.

It's not as if this movie could ruin the Ghostbusters franchise. I think Ghostbusters 2 did that well enough on its own.

Old_Zircon - 2016-03-04

I'm all for franchises being ruined, fuck franchises.

But yeah, this doesn't look bad enough to be interesting.

That guy - 2016-03-03

Current reaction on YT is almost 18K thumbs up to almost 23K thumbs down.
But no thumbs sideways button to be found.

That guy - 2016-03-07

Now it's nearly 2:1 against. I'm having trouble believing that 350K people are redpill dickheads.

Needtodestroy - 2016-03-03

A poorly edited trailer. But I am still so fucking excited to see this. Also Kate McKinnon.

Boxhead - 2016-03-03

They managed to make the ghost in the library scene bad?

100% more vaginas. Exactly same percentage streetwise black people.

This looks boring as hell.

Ugh - 2016-03-03

bustin makes me feel goo... ehhhhh

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2016-03-03

Looks like a rental but 5 for the MGTOW/redpill/MRA butthurt.

memedumpster - 2016-03-03

Looks fine to me, and true to the tone of the original.

I guess I don't have secret gamer rage woman hate to pretend to downplay by saying the original wasn't so great because vaginas now.

Oh well, will see it.

Incidentally, some of the early behind the scenes shots made it look way more like the cartoon show than this did, and that's kind of a letdown, I was hoping for a bit more over the top.

Nominal - 2016-03-03

I'm not sure this "tone" means what you think it means.

memedumpster - 2016-03-03

The cars, camera filters, effects shots, and banter very closely match Ghostbusters, though it remains to be seen if the dialogue is as oversexed, personally I hope so.

Of course, I'm talking to myself here, what you mean is "vagina," because animal. You act like the Internet hasn't been having this conversation over this movie for ten solid months.

Cena_mark - 2016-03-03

I thought they were doing a sequel, but this looks like a reboot. They seem to be starting from scratch as though the original team never existed. Also how come once again the black one is the non-scientist? Do they not think black people can become scientists?

EvilHomer - 2016-03-03

I *think* it's a sequel, but if it's a reboot then fuck 'em. The only time I've ever seen a reboot work (recently, post-BSG) was the MK9 reboot, and that only worked because it wasn't a true reboot, just an alternate timeline from a separate slice of the MK/DC comics multiverse.

Even if it is a sequel, though, no Kylie means not interested. Yeah, OK, spraying ectoplasm all over the heroines is great and all, but even discounting all the tiresome post-film-era cliches, the lack of Kylie is too much to overlook.

EvilHomer - 2016-03-03

And of course the black one is a scientist. She might not be really smart about all that science stuff, but she's got a PhD in Knowing New York.

Cena_mark - 2016-03-03

That's even worse. It seems that all the jokes she has is in acting "hood". And you know what I think about that...
http://i1.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/000/349/990/304.g if

EvilHomer - 2016-03-03

That's not racist! Knowing New York is a useful skill which takes many long years of study, or an Android phone with a Navigation app, in order to master. Black Ghostbuster also has at least a Master's Degree in fields like being loud, slapping people what how a religious-type person might do, and having an uncle who owns a car. These are all wonderful, empowering, obviously-African-American skills, and if you think they are somehow "less important" than knowing about engineering or quantum physics, then clearly it is YOU who are being the racist.

That guy - 2016-03-04

The tone of the humor is not like the original at all, nor is the cinematography particularly close (partly because of film, but still).

Cube - 2016-03-03

Bill Murray's spinning in his grave.

Tough American Bouncer - 2016-03-03

Acting and the dialog kills this.

lotsmoreorcs - 2016-03-03

Fuck nostalgia!

Women are fine, equal rights equal fights tho. If a chick is trying to back up her verbal argument by scratching my eyes out or bite me, after a certain point I'm going to punch her. Then we make up and watch First 48. That's how my house works at least

Nominal - 2016-03-03

I hope we reach true equality someday just so it will be perfectly acceptable to say this looks terrible.

memedumpster - 2016-03-03

Perhaps if you said it from the kitchen?

Bobonne - 2016-03-03

This looks terrible.

That guy - 2016-03-05

That guy - 2016-03-05

That should be the top comment on YT, Nom.

duck&cover - 2016-03-03

"Okay, we have to open this box right now and get the amulet to save the city."

"The inscription says you have to stick your…penis into the lock. Damn!"

BHWW - 2016-03-03

This looks very null. About as compelling as watching a blank screen. It's the cinematic equivalent of clear, lukewarm broth.

badideasinaction - 2016-03-03

Still hopeful it's good - kinda hard to tell either way from the trailer, but it gives off neither "THIS IS GONNA BE AWESOME" or "OH GOD THIS IS GONNA SUUUUCK". Definitely a "wait for the reviews to come in" movie.

Kabbage - 2016-03-03

Not amazing, but I did like (A) ecto brass knuckles, and (B) slapping a possessed person so hard their ghost flies out.

cognitivedissonance - 2016-03-03

I see it on On Demand four years after it comes out, edited by TBS. What a fun sick day that will be.

Maggot Brain - 2016-03-03

Ahhhr, that was a reply to bonbon

Spaceman Africa - 2016-03-03

Poorly edited sure (the dubstep Ghostubusters theme?), but the movie will probably be fine.

Hooker - 2016-03-04

Love Paul Feig/Melissa McCarthy movies. Spy was probably my favourite movie last year. But this looks so, so bad.

That guy - 2016-03-04

Yeah, Feig was a good bet at least. I didn't guess the jokes would be this bad.

StanleyPain - 2016-03-04

5 for awfulness.
I have no dog in the "oh no womens and one is black omg" fight. I could care less who was in this it looks like same generic tripe comedy bullshit that every big Hollywood comedy is.

It looks like Pixels 2 or something, ,jesus those lazy effects.

FABIO - 2016-03-04

Sassy black woman, Tank Girl, and Bridesmaids walk into a bar....

Rosebeekee - 2016-03-04

Didn't you guys see that empowering crew pick photo of the forty women who worked on this multi million dollar movie? A third of the women were the actors themselves and their stunt doubles while the rest were in such glass ceiling shattering roles as 'make up artist', 'costumer', and 'script supervisor'. Wasn't that photo inspiring and certainly not the norm for even the most low budget of films?

GIRL POWER!

themilkshark - 2016-03-05

How dare they recognize females

StanleyPain - 2016-03-05

Women can make shitty movies too! WE CAN DO IT!!!!

That guy - 2016-03-06

Move over, fellas! Overproduced, franchised, canned-comedy is for girls!

bawbag - 2016-03-04

5 for all the nerd tears this more-than-likely-average movie is generating.

Dislike brigading via reddit, kotaku, IGN and 4chan because it's all about 'ethics in film criticism'.

I hope it's good. I will still watch it in any case.

That guy - 2016-03-07

that's an implied false dilemma, fuckface

Caminante Nocturno - 2016-03-08

Jeez, you couldn't write a worse comment if you tried.
