I vaguely remember that ad. It may have been my first exposure to that kind of advertising.

Caminante Nocturno - 2016-03-09

Is the music any worse than the fact that he's dressed and talking like a stereotypical Asian businessman?

What the...

Teriyaki is Japanese, not Chinese, you ignorant fucks!

Oriental Hot Mustard, on the other hand, is a well-known sauce used in Szechuan cuisine, so at least they got one detail correct.

But Szechuan cuisine is native to the Szechuan region in western China! It is not native to the Yangtze River delta, as one would expect from a "Shanghai" McNugget. Shanghai cuisine is it's own distinct cooking form, and conflating Shanghai with Szechuan cuisines is patently offensive; as offensive as serving a deep dish pizza, while calling it "Tex-Mex".

The sweet and sour sauce might be OK, but we'd have to look closely at the ingredients list, and check to see if there are conflicts with any relevant protected status regulations.

Once upon a time I hoarded and saved one schechuan dipping sauce from McDonalds back in the late 90's after Mulan was released. That sauce packet was subsequently smashed years later. As of now, somewhere in my garage is a hoarded Salsa De Barbacoa from Mexico circa year 2000.

The thing I remember most about this is the parody commercial on Saturday Night Live; "McSushi!"

It showed a McDonald's full of White people getting a McDonalized mass-produced kind of sushi in a choreographed musical way. The camera briefly lingered on an East Asian gentleman in a suit eating a Big Mac and looking confused.
