David Pakman seems like a good guy, but good God he's a terrible presenter/interviewer. Always has been.

"Why do you think Donald Trump is getting so much more support from white supremacists than Pat Buchanan did? Is it his stance on trade policy? His immigration policy?"

I dunno David... maybe it's the black man in the White House that has the white supremacists all riled up.

memedumpster - 2016-03-31

I don't like Pakman at all. He has youtube quality production hegemony over a lot of topics though so we're stuck with him.

EvilHomer - 2016-03-31

I'm still not sure whether these large groups of "white supremacists who hate Obama merely because he's black" even exist. I've heard people criticize Obama because he IS NOT black (Cornell West and Larry Pinkney, for example) but the scourge of white supremacy always seems to arrive as second or thirdhand information, and as difficult to source as the phantom Communists of yesteryear.

Still, it's nice to know that even the venerable alt media isn't above yellow journalism!

memedumpster - 2016-03-31

EvilHomie, if you have another explanation as to why the GOP would unanimously hate a dyed in the wool neoconservative president, the survival of humanity may depend on you telling us!

Void 71 - 2016-03-31

Historically, white nationalist organizations were far less resistant to law enforcement infiltration than the mafia, probably because they were easier to catch when they engaged in criminal activity. As far as I can tell, the few real-life white nationalist organizations that still exist are one-man operations or honeypots that law enforcement uses to turn low-tier skinheads into informants. This guy is either a result of the latter or an undercover cop who does a really convincing Slingblade.

EvilHomer - 2016-03-31

Yes, Mr Dumpster, I do. It is the same reason why Democrats unanimously love a dyed in the wool neoconservative president:

Tribalism.

The mainstream American political landscape does not operate according to reason or principles or even self-interest. It operates according to irrational, corporate-directed tribalism.

memedumpster - 2016-03-31

Who you calling a trilobite! Where's mah gun!?

EvilHomer - 2016-03-31

It's also the reason why Democrats hate Trump, and voting-class Republicans love him, despite the fact that he's essentially Hillary minus all her sycophantic friends.

EvilHomer - 2016-03-31

No, no, not trilobite. Tribadism. I called you a tribadist. Look it up.

Anaxagoras - 2016-03-31

What are you talking about? There's plenty to dislike about Hillary, but she hasn't displayed the same propensity for fascist, violent tactics as Trump. Nor does she have the same simplistic foreign policy, or the ridiculous "Build a wall!" policy, or... you know what? I can think of hardly any similarities between the two, other than the fact that they're both white. And, well, Kasich, Sanders, and Rubio all share that trait. So I guess all those are the same candidate as well.

memedumpster - 2016-03-31

I wonder if there was tribadism amongst the trilobite tribes?

Old_Zircon - 2016-03-31

I actually find his interview style oddly charming, but that's probably because I grew up in Massachusetts and he's so Massachusetts I sometimes suspect that he's deliberately playing it up.

I said it before a few weeks ago, but it feels like watching Wayne's World if Wayne and Garth were into NPR instead of hard rock.

Also, I feel like in the field his style sometimes disarms the interviewees and makes them say or do stuff they wouldn't otherwise, because he comes off like a reporter for a high school newspaper.

I guess his charm is similar to sword guys, it's comparably pedantic.

EvilHomer - 2016-03-31

You may have forgotten this, but Hillary was Secretary of State, and as Secretary of State, she was one of the fiercest hawks this side of her good pal, Henry Kissinger. Hillary is a war criminal. Literally. "Fascist", "violent" - how many times has Donald used his office to collude with Wallstreet and Big Government in pursuit of corporatist (i.e. fascist) aims? How many times has Donald pushed for the destabilization of third world regimes and the murder of countless human beings?

And the wall thing is another baffling aspect of this reactionary tribal revulsion against Trump. You know why a wall is "bad"? Because a wall prevents free trade. A wall prevents cheap labor from flooding the market and allowing large business owners to undercut much smaller competitors by screwing over the American proletariat. Now I am not saying *I* support Trump's socialist campaign against free trade, no no no perish the thought - but workers & unions & protectionism, these have always been things that "the left" approves of, yes? So why would Democrats prefer Hillary - a proudly neoliberal former WalMart executive who only a few years scant ago campaigned to become the president of the World Bank - over a blustering Kennedyesque frat boy whose stated goal is empowering the American working class via the concentrated application of government force?

Of course, I don't believe Donald's actually going to build a wall. He and Hillary are old friends, and assuming this upcoming battle doesn't start going too far below the belt, I wouldn't be surprised if Heavy-D gives Hillary a key position in his cabinet (where she can oversee yet MORE war crimes). After all, prior to deciding he could kick the Republican's asses, Trump was a Democrat and on record as favouring *almost* all of the same positions as Hillary Clinton (unlike Ms Clinton, Donald was opposed to the Iraq War and the War on Terror, two positions which, to his credit, he is still espousing; eight years after both tribes agreed to stop mentioning it)

Remember: not only is America's political narrative based upon tribalism, but it also follows Wrestling Rules. There's faces and heels, marks and smarks and kayfabe, but come on: deep down inside, we all know it's a work. They get you cheering and crying and analyzing the dramatic new match-ups over the water-cooler come Tuesday morning, but until we can vote for the Chairman of the Fed and the Director of the NSA (or better yet, find the balls to refuse to participate in any of it at all), none of this nonsense is going to matter.

EvilHomer - 2016-03-31

Meme - I doubt it, as tribidism is highly dependent upon human anatomical structure, i.e. you need all the right bits in the right places.

memedumpster - 2016-03-31

Zirc, that's a good point, he's a lot more likeable as a "sword guy." He definitely needs a sweater.

Homie, I don't know, trilobites were some sex freaks!

EvilHomer: Here are some of white supremacists, particularly the two men.

2:30 is when the n-word gets dropped.

Old_Zircon - 2016-04-01

Meme, loo at it this way

Sam Seder : Brooklyn :: David Pakman : Northampton, MA (even though he's in Boston now).

Clears up a lot, kind of like the moment you realize Insane Clown Posse are pr wrestling without the wrestling and really get the ramifications of that.

memedumpster - 2016-03-31

Border Patrol Union just endorsed Trump. I'm shocked it took them this long after all the police union endorsements he got.

Shit, Mothership, I have a game rules question : If a Trump supporting cop or border agent guns down a reporter, does that still pay out?

Ha! My stepdad was a Klan Wizard. I guess that was an improvement, he outranked my dad.

15th - 2016-03-31

Really?

Old_Zircon - 2016-03-31

Really?

memedumpster - 2016-03-31

Yeah, I read it this morning.

Straight from the horse's ass.

No, the clan.

Old_Zircon - 2016-03-31

No, the clan.

memedumpster - 2016-03-31

Yeah, good times. He was also a Freemason, lest ye think thine Illuminates are pure of spirit.

The Mothership - 2016-04-01

Sorry all, coming late to this.

1. Really? Like really you're related to two generations of Klan members?

2. If journalists or peace officers are killed it pays double.

memedumpster - 2016-04-01

Isn't everybody?

dairyqueenlatifah - 2016-03-31

Grand Dragon? That's actually a title in the KKK?

That's hilarious.

Bort - 2016-03-31

I can explain! The KKK started out as a wacky club for college-educated types after the Civil War, which is why the strange name ("Ku Klux" probably has something to do with the Greek word "kuklos" meaning "circle", and "Klan" is misspelled for laffs). As such they came up with goofy titles like Kleegle, Grand Cyclops, and so forth. And they'd dress up in outlandish costumes and go on midnight torchlit parades just for fun.

I have described what the KKK was for about 15 seconds of its existence. Then it occurred to someone, "you know, since we're covered head to toe and we've got torches, we ought to go out and terrorize some former slaves".

Sanest Man Alive - 2016-03-31

if it helps, think of them as hardline 1st Edition fans.

memedumpster - 2016-03-31

That's not fair, elves were WAY better as a class than as a ra... oh shit.

Anaxagoras - 2016-04-01

Elves were already a race in 1st Edition. You have to go back to Basic D&D for them to be a class.

NERD FIGHT!!!!

I really should grow a neckbeard, so I could proudly stroke it at times like these.
