Whenever I think of how disgusting and hopeless the present is, how Europe will be cleansed of everything that made it unique, both genetic and cultural, and how the younger generation is cheering and fighting to bring upon the destruction sooner, it's hard not to say fuck it all, let it burn, they reap what they sow.

I believe citizenship should hinge on military service, and civilian non-citizens should be sanctioned in order to encourage productivity and civic participation. There are South Park republicansacks of shit like Seen A Mark gumming up the works and then there are sensible, honorable Starship Trooper Republicans like meself

That's unrealistic. As of now only 1% of our population serves, and we already have one of the world's largest militaries. Forcing kids to serve for arbitrary reasons would only serve your desired brainwashing goals.

I'd actually half agree with Orcs, but for different reasons and with a different attitude towards non-citizens. I wouldn't want to force kids to serve (in fact, I am even against making kids attend public schools and say the Pledge of Allegiance), but making military service (or some other form of civil service) a condition of full citizenship could be a reasonable proposal; IF (and only if) the state's authority over the lives of non-citizens were deliberately limited or non-existent!

For example, citizens would be entitled to various state-funded benefits, but would need to pay taxes, obey morality laws, and of course, serve in the Coast Guard. On the other side, yeomen (free non-citizens) wouldn't be allowed to collect state benefits, but would be exempt from taxation and from any laws that criminalize non-violent and/or victimless behavior. For example, if I chose not to serve in the Legions, I wouldn't be entitled to collect Social Security or Medicare, but at the same time, I'd be exempt from income tax and could smoke or drink whatever I wanted. Basically, we'd make participation in the state voluntary; an opt-in contract.

Any military staffed with people that never chose to join it and really don't want to be there is going to be far less effective than it would be without them.

Conscript armies are not good ones, not as good as they'd be without them, anyway.

Switzerland has their militias which is cool for them. It's not needed in the US with our trillion dollar war machine. They have a smaller population and fewer super weapons.

But you admit that at least in Switzerland's case, conscription works pretty well, right? That is a nation which makes military service mandatory, BUT, to the best of my knowledge, Swiss children are not as brainwashed as American children.

I don't think universal conscription would be wise here in the US, either, but its not like such a proposal could *never* work.
