Ho-lee shit. I had heard that the gimmick of this show is that there isn't any dialogue; they're trying to reinvent comedy & bring back something like Mr. Bean or Charlie Chaplin, but 30 minute episodes. And in the first couple minutes, we get extensive dialogue! Oh sure, they don't actually enunciate any of the words, but that's because they don't have to. They've essentially created conversations so banal and predictable that when they mumble the words, we can fill in the pronunciations in our heads.

Nicely done, guys. Very clever.

Protip: If you want to create non-verbal comedy, try actually watching the masters like Chaplin & Atkinson. Also, don't give us multiple "sneezing in somebody's face" jokes, along with "frozen liquid foodstuffs" jokes, in the first two fucking minutes of the episode entitles "Cold".

I had never heard of this until it hit Netflix and I was intrigued by the concept of a sitcom with no real dialogue (a-la Mr. Bean or something like that). I watched the first episode and that was pretty much it for me. I just didn't think it was funny. I get what they are trying to do and that this was meant to be a kind of gentle parody/homage to old-school British comedy, possibly even the simple "carry on" kind of attitude stuff that dominated the post-war comedy era (which eventually led to the massive revolt of stuff like the Goon Show, Not the 9 o Clock News, Cook and Moore, Monty Python etc.). The problem, though, is that this show seems to want to also "have it's cake and eat it too" by also being contemporary and referencing contemporary culture. Dunno..it just didn't work for me.

That said, it wasn't until I had already watched it and left it behind that I then heard about the massive negative reaction this got in the UK and how it was basically harangued off television, which seems like a massive overreaction to what it is merely mediocre.

This might work better with a laugh track because I have no idea where the funny is supposed to be.

Was this filmed on alien planet? We don't have that white dirt and strange... what the hell is that even, frozen motion glass? Whatever that clear shit is sticking to things.

Also, no human would watch this long enough to make it.

I'll admit there's a certain horrendously misplaced personal admiration for somebody so monumentally unfunny who has yet somehow fashioned their own comedy TV show on a major worldwide network.

It's like climbing Mt. Everest with a rocket sled.

Oh no.

I sorta think the dog puppet is well done.

It's not that far away from Mr. Bean, so I'm not sure why this is so much harder to watch. Maybe Mr. Bean works better because it has more slapstick and the character's slightly less loathsome?
