Ultimate Underwear was the best game ever, I still have it on my hard drive.

Binro the Heretic - 2016-05-08

I'm so glad you can get most of these on Good Old Games.

RedRust - 2016-05-08

Call me crazy, but wasn't Alone in the dark the forerunner of Resident Evil?

boner - 2016-05-08

Pretty much. There's a postmortem from a couple years ago if you want to know how it was made. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PamzF9ZRU3A

RedRust - 2016-05-09

Ok cool, thanks

memedumpster - 2016-05-08

Inca's tagline should be "wtf...WTF!?"

Scrimmjob - 2016-05-09

I remember Inca being a run of the mill POS adventure game, maybe it was Inca 2 I played.

memedumpster - 2016-05-09

I never played it, but this video makes it look like that when you die your soul becomes a magical musical instrument that then goes on to fight in many outer space battles.

Space Quest 4 was the second worst SQ, next to 6.

Words can't describe how terrifying the first room in Alone in the Dark was at the time.

Adham Nu'man - 2016-05-09

The first alone in the dark was awesome. Those footsteps.

Scrimmjob - 2016-05-09

Quest for glory 3 is the creme de la creme of Sierra point and clicks!

StanleyPain - 2016-05-09

Oh god, no way....3 was by far the most bullshit Space Quest, hands down.
No storyline, no plot...just "huh...I am wandering around the galaxy. oh hey, these guys need to be rescued....GAME OVER" And then that bullshit OH MY WE HAVE STUMBLED ACROSS THE OFFICES OF THE AWESOME GAME DEVLOPERS KNOWN AS SIERRA! Topped only by the colossal piece of shit that was Leisure Suit Larry 3.

Nominal - 2016-05-10

As opposed to the nuanced, developing plots of Space Quests 1, 2, and 4?

At least 3 was beatable without a hintbook. For that alone it blows total bullshit 4 out of the water. 4 reached almost King's Quest level of bullshit puzzles + unwinnable conditions (if you didn't grab the Energizer Bunny in the VERY FIRST scene you found out the game was impossible to beat in the VERY LAST scene).

The worst will always, always be 6.

Potrod - 2016-05-09

That Comanche helicopter game looks really impressive for 1992. I'm sure someone will probably tell me something like "pfft, it's just voxels, it's actually not technically impressive at all blah blah blah" but I mean, compare it with Rebel Assault, which looks worse even with the advantage (aesthetically) of basically the entire game being sprites on top of pre-rendered videos.

Stencil bufferers

The Mothership - 2016-05-09

In 1992 I was playing Oregon Trail on an Apple II E, the only computer at school.

Nominal - 2016-05-09

Oregon Trail, the original Rogue-like.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2016-05-09

I think rogue is the original rogue-like.
Also peoples definition of what a rogue-like is is pretty loose these days. I dont see how people can call FTL* a roguelike, its a totally different sort of game, all it has in common is that it has some procedural/rng elements.

*It is great game tho

StanleyPain - 2016-05-09

Rogue was the original random dungeon crawler with perma-death type thing, but I believe Temple of Apshai and Sword of Fargoal are the first roguelike games to have actual graphics instead of just ASCII tiles.

Scrimmjob - 2016-05-09

Is this guy Belgian?

Nominal - 2016-05-09

Jesus, I just realized this shit is as ancient now as Pong was in 1992.

The Mothership - 2016-05-10

yes, you're old. Welcome to the club.
