...aaaaand three years later, 8000 dead and 1/2 million injured due to a methyl isocyanate leak in Bhopal.

Jeriko-1 - 2016-05-20

Did't Union Carbide try to argue that the methyl isocyanate didn't come from their plant so they weren't liable?

"THAT GAS COULD HAVE COME FROM ANYWHERE!"

Blood
Blood
Blood
Blood blood blood blood
Blood was flowin' like water

Dead bodies everywhere

Oscar Wildcat - 2016-05-20

Let me tell you, whenever I eat a strong vindaloo, hazmat teams are scrambled to the scene and the death toll can be staggering!

The Mothership - 2016-05-21

I think it was learning about Bhopal and Union Carbide that really cemented me as a bleeding heart, anti-capitalist libtard. It just makes you so fucking angry.

I don't think UC ever tried *that* excuse, but they initially try to claim that it was some kind of industrial sabotage that had been carried out by the workers. Unfortunately, to this day, it's basically impossible to figure out what exactly caused the disaster, though the evidence does tend to lean towards mismanagement/poor safety standards, etc.

That said, UCs behavior in the aftermath is inexcusable. The only people who have really suffered (within the company I mean) where the employees who were on duty when the accident happened; most of them got either jail time or massive financial fines for unintentional homicide, but of course it's bullshit. And also, the US refusing to help India extradite the corporate management is bullshit.

And remember, it's only logical to be safe. Live long and prosper.

This was actually really well put-together, as far as worker-blaming corporate safety propaganda goes.

I mean the part where Spock throws a stone into the pond and he talks about the further repercussions without explicitly saying "ripple effect" really shows respect for the viewer.
