You're not alone. He's talented but completely overpraised.

As bloated and insane as his games are, he usually does his thing instead of going with whatever is popular at the time. He's kind of like Blizzard in that aspect, making the same thing over and over again with mixed results but the uniqueness of it gives it a cult following.

That being said MGS 3 was probably his best game and I loved every god damned second of it. Played it for the first time last year, so no nostalgia hype on my end.

I think he is appraised for the wrong reasons. He can but together a good game in technical terms but he is bad as a story teller.

There is a massive amount of symbolism, both hidden and not so hidden in this trailer. That said, it's very much worth pointing out that basically nothing but the concept within the trailer is completed at this point. They literally have not even chosen a game engine yet.

@Tough I enjoy the stories more than the characterization inside them - a lot of his characters seem to do things because the plot demands it rather than out of some internal need, etc. That said, the stories themselves are interesting and full of odd elements.

Hideki Kamiya is the epitome of style over substance. He's got one hell of a flair for style , but in terms of fun his games are always kind of middling at best.

Yup. The first Metal Gear Solid was good since they actually dared to edit him back then.

Then the series wouldn't get decent again until MGSV, which...edited Kojima again! I'm seeing a pattern....

I love Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2 broke me. I slogged through the next few but I just can't even put up the effort anymore. Kojima is an insane auteur with some very weird attitudes about women. If they're giving him all the cash and free reign to do whatever is in that brain of his now, then it should be interesting, but I won't be playing it.

This is Kojima we're talking about. If he finally got over his boobstravaganza enough to focus on man-ass, I predict he will go completely off the rails in the following ways :

1.) The baby is an apparition, because he is actually right now pregnant with that baby.
2.) The baby was genetically engineered to seek petroleum products.
3.) Some dark agency wants the baby aborted, which is why it was impregnated into a super soldier.
4.) The super soldier loves the baby and wants it to have a normal life like he did not.
5.) The baby is already beyond genius level AI and will be doing augments and repairs from INSIDE the soldier.
6.) If he wears clothes, the baby dies.
