Confused? This is the most trenchant analysis and explanation you will find;

It was pretty easy to understand, then again I also claim to understand End of Evangelion.

The ending to DHIS > the ending to LOST

Yellow Guy was right, his dad does have a computer, just as he mentioned in episode 4.

We're through the looking glass here, people.

I am a file and you put documents in me.

June 19th 2016 is Father's Day.

June 19th 1955 was Father's Day (the date on a calendar)

Yellow Guy's dad was the man behind the curtain.

Let's all agree to never be creative again...

Request: change the title to Don't Hug Me I'm Scared VI

RedRust - 2016-06-19

Come on now, where's the lengthy deconstruction?

BiggerJ - 2016-06-19

Okay's I'll try a part of it.

(SPOILER)

Red attempting to make his dreary world better with the song from DHMIS 1 is a metaphor for the people who try to improve media with works incorporating new ideas, but who ultimately fail to change their chosen media for the better because the cultural tools and vocabulary they use in their work is obtained from the same flawed media they're trying to fix.

Interesting. Haven't come across this theory as of yet. Makes sense though.

badideasinaction - 2016-06-20

I was going with this all being in Red's head.

1-3 are his flights of fancy off into silly stuff that occasionally gets dark - his musings on time, creativity and love with grim reality kicking in. He starts thinking about creativity, he gets pessimistic, time becomes about the inevitable waking up to an alarm, etc.

By episode 4 the computer shows up, and there's a bit where it talks about yellow and green being virtual or something, but they never get to red. The computer stuff has things like spreadsheets creeping into the picture and it cuts to him, alone, staring blankly at a computer screen at night. Red makes a conscious note of "exiting" this world at the end, and in episode 5 red is missing.

Once he's left his own dreamworld, stuff starts to go off the rails - episode 5 is all just random "advice" with nothing even trying to make sense and everything goes off the rails. With the absence of red, green falls at the end.

Episode 6 is the last remnants of his imagination/creativity alone, while in the real world he tries and fails to escape his dull life. His inner self doesn't want dreams and I was also seeing the "father" as the old burned-out version of himself as the inner child is confronted with aging. Meanwhile he literally pulls the plug on his dreams and wonder and it ends.

It would be kinda trite, but I could see it going with some theme like that.
