This white man's Gundam was indeed fun to watch.

SolRo - 2016-07-18

White Man's Gundam sounds like an ethnocentric animation belief system

Sanest Man Alive - 2016-07-18

More of a White Man's Mazinger, but I guess that just doesn't roll off the tongue the same way.

/hairsplitting

Sanest Man Alive - 2016-07-18

Oh who am I kidding, I want this discussion more than anything else today.

White Man's Real Robots vs. White Man's Super Robots GO GO GO

RedRust - 2016-07-18

I have been defeated by your extensive knowledge of mecha.

Gmork - 2016-07-18

Countless people were killed.

fedex - 2016-07-18

All in good fun

Hey I know, let's let kids be in charge of everything.

If you think about how the worlds armies work, it's pretty realistic.

Not much different from a 19 year old driving a tank or a 21 year old flying a bomber.

Anaxagoras - 2016-07-18

Except for the fact that the army soldiers get, you know, training. And are part of a clearly defined command structure that ensures accountability in most situations. And are representing their nation-state, thus providing some psychological incentive not to just screw around. And...

Come to think of it, the two situations aren't analogous at all.

SolRo - 2016-07-18

The only accountability is when soldiers knowingly and intentionally go out of their way to kill civilians.

'perceived threat' is used to excuse the other 99% of civilian deaths. Grunts get some PT or latrine duty as punishment, officers get a stern talk.

So it's exactly like this. If the giant robot steps on the old lady intentionally, its horrible murder, if it kills thousands wrestling another robot downtown and we don't see the corpses, big whoop.

Anaxagoras - 2016-07-18

Yes.... a command structure with clearly defined ranks, lines of command, and a bureaucratic process provides the exact same amount of oversight as a kid randomly punching buttons.

I'm trying to figure out why you would post such gibberish. Did you get an idea in your head, turn the h8yperbole up to 11, and then think "Yeah.... nobody will notice the exaggeration."?

SolRo - 2016-07-18

The low estimate of civilian deaths caused by the American forces during the invasion of Iraq was 60,000, and less than 100 of those deaths lead to any prosecutions.

What accountability structure are you talking about again?

I really really liked Downtown back when i was like 14 or something, I was sad to see it go.

Years and years later I saw that one creepo biker character in this show and it kinda made my day.
