Well, it's a cartoon.

Cena_mark - 2016-07-24

Looks worth a shot. Pilots can be kinda hard to determine a show's quality by. Just watch the Steven Universe pilot and see how deceptive they can be.

William Burns - 2016-07-24

I don't get the appeal of that, either.

William Burns - 2016-07-24

The Rick and Morty pilot was exactly representative of the final product.

Binro the Heretic - 2016-07-24

So, let me see if I got this: A Henry Selick version of "The Graveyard Book" is too much to ask for, but we can have this?

Fuck you, universe. Fuck you.

Sanest Man Alive - 2016-07-24

My exact thought when I saw this in the hopper.

BHWW - 2016-07-24

It certainly needs to be put in the grave, for being so generic in it's terminal lameness.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2016-07-24

Yuck.

Caminante Nocturno - 2016-07-24

If the writing had been any lazier, it would be dead.

Maggot Brain - 2016-07-24

It's all down hill after that first joke. Paranorman did this bit so much better.

Xenocide - 2016-07-24

I liked the art style, but everything else was just so damn generic.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-07-24

Catie Wayne does three of the voices here, including, incredibly, June's mother. I wouldn't have believed it. She's really good. I think she's doing voice acting full time now, mostly for the Disney Channel.

The death olf June's parents... that was amazing.

>>>I liked the art style, but everything else was just so damn generic.

Really? Wow! I keep forgetting most of you grew up with radically different cartoons than I did. I think I agree that it would have to go somewhere from here, but the possibilities are enormous. If they make more episodes, I will watch them.

The name sucks. Why not just "Cemetery Girl"?

At my High School, the most popular kids were actually really nice, and I was an awkward nerdy barely closeted bisexual kid. The cliche that the popular kids are monsters, is there anything to that?

The art indeed looks amazing on my friend's TV.

Xenocide - 2016-07-25

This whole cliche of having the most popular kid be a shallow bully is one I find incredibly grating, because it's always done the same way. They're always incredibly rich and obsessed with ruining the protagonist's life for no reason.

The only cartoons that have done anything clever with this trope are Gravity Falls, which had a character start out like this and then become sympathetic over time, and Kill La Kill, which parodies this trope so hard that the rich popular girl is a literal dictator who runs the entire school like it's North Korea.

EvilHomer - 2016-07-25

No shit, really? That's pretty cool, John, I'll have to watch it.

She did really great pony impressions, and while I'd rather she take liveaction roles, I can certainly picture her doing voice acting, too.

memedumpster - 2016-07-25

I thought Project A-Ko handled school bullying the best.

EvilHomer - 2016-07-25

With lesbianism and panty shots?

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-07-25

>> while I'd rather she take liveaction roles, I can certainly picture her doing voice acting, too.

Did you know that she's going to be thirty in five years? Getting into voice acting is a very smart move for her long-term career. And she is VERY good. Again, check out the voice of June's mother, right in the beginning. I would never have guessed, but she's still got that excellent coming timing. She plays a big role in getting that cosmic joke off just right.

EvilHomer - 2016-07-25

No, I had no idea how old she is. Thank you for telling me.

EvilHomer - 2016-07-25

What do you think the odds are she would consider splitting the difference and become a JOI camgirl?

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-07-24

Because everything with Catie always gets five stars.

Fezren - 2016-07-25

I liked it the first time they made it when it was called Beetlejuice, and I was 9 years old.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-07-25

I doubt if Beetlejuice was the first time.

Again, the scene where the parents die is, in my opinion, a transcendent moment. My mother died a year ago, and I felt that loss, and laughed at the same time. It felt sort of good.

This girl is an orphan, that's obviously hugely important, and it's got nothing to do with beetlejuice. Why are her parents not present among the ghosts?

dairyqueenlatifah - 2016-07-25

Because it's a half-baked piece of shit?

endlesschris - 2016-07-26

Yeah, this seems like an example of a somewhat-talented animator trusting themselves to write a script when they probably should've found like... someone funny.
