I guess it's a step above other things I've heard of happening there.

As long as it encourages them to move on?

That room would cost you 4 figures in Green Point.

I think we need these things here. There are lots of people who can't afford to live in the cities where they work.

Cena_mark - 2016-07-21

Word, I was looking at apartments in Brooklyn, but soon later just realized it would be too expensive.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2016-07-21

I wonder how much this costs. I would imagine its very expensive. For instance paying to stay in a cheap hostel would usually be more expensive than renting.

"Typically, the cyber-homeless are unemployed or underemployed and cannot afford to rent even the cheapest apartment, which is more than the cost per month to rent an internet booth daily. The cyber-homeless may even use the address of the internet cafe on resumes when applying for jobs to conceal their present form of accommodation.

The fee of 1400-2400 yen for a night - which may include free soft drinks, TV, comics and internet access - is less than for capsule hotels. " -

When I was traveling around Japan on the cheap, I stayed at these places. All I wanted was to pay for a place where I could sleep, and I was able to do that there.

Raggamuffin - 2016-07-21

Some quick internet research (yeah I know) says it's about - a night, which roughs to about 0-0 a month. That includes everything: the booth, the internet access, access to the bathing facilities plus free drinks and snacks. It's not what I'd call very cheap, but it's much less expensive than the other options these folks have.

EvilHomer - 2016-07-21

I don't know where you live, but 0-0 is ridiculously cheap around here.

My Japanese relatives won't ever talk about this kind of thing, but I get the distinct impression that Japan is really turning (turned) into a huge shithole of just over-development and high-gear, nothing-else-matters capitalism attached to a government that basically just wants to return to the days of the Emperor and having primitive "tradition" dominate the political scene. Abe's last appointment was steeped in ridiculous "glory to our undying superior race" bullshit and most political analysis of the country is that it will probably slip further into pre-WWII style fascism in the next 10 years or so if nothing changes.

They just recently had a huge shift in their government to the Liberal Democrats (to whom neither of the words actually apply) who are talking about amending their post-WWII constitution to basically get rid of everything that the Allies forced them to recognize after the war, like maybe mass murder is a bad thing. They are talking about "getting rid of Western notions of human rights" and even questioning having any sort of free speech rights.

Oops..was not meant to be a reply.

Raggamuffin - 2016-07-21

Homer: By "not very cheap" I meant something like "not as inexpensive as I'd like to see considering you're living in a pay-by-the-hour J.O. closet."

I really hope this isn't the future for my nephews.

Caminante Nocturno - 2016-07-21

Manboo sounds like an outdated porno term for an Asian penis.

Sanest Man Alive - 2016-07-22

I know it's a common name for the ocean sunfish, a weird critter that looks like someone chopped a normal fish in half. So i guess you could keep that line of thinking, if you want to be even cruder about it.

Sanest Man Alive - 2016-07-22

*common Japanese name, I meant.
