What I loved about this episode is how it 's making Pewey so much more possible.

I can't decide if this one or Sworn to the Sword is my favorite. All I know is, Dee Dee Mango Hall can fucking sing.

She can sing, but I'm totally marked out for Lapis Lazuli.

A lot of the cast are trained singers to some degree, although Tom Scherpling has a hard time carrying a tune in a bucket. He plays the best cartoon dad ever though, so it's easy to forgive.

Fluttershy and I are currently watching "It's Attack on Titan Only This Time With Trains". So sorry, Stefan Looneyworst will have to wait.

I caught three episodes of Steven Universe on a plane and now I'm hooked. It's so kind-hearted and yet cool and science-fictioney.

My Little Pony is a children's cartoon, Steven Universe is an entire order of magnitude more serious and engaging.

Gmork is correct. Granted MLP is great, but it's limited in what it can do. SU with it's TVPG rating has so much more freedom.

Attack on Titan is more of a children's cartoon than Steven or MLP. It's defined by the sort of grimdark nihilism that edgy suburban 13 year olds confuse with maturity.

Xenocide is correct. But we're not watching Attack on Titan. We're watching "Attack on Titan Only This Time With Trains". You know, it's the one all with the zombie-vampires who keep attacking trains, while a nerdy steampunk S&M fetishist and his DoD recruitment-propaganda galpal try to shoot them in the face? I forget the name of it, but it'd be at least TV-14, so it is better than SU.

TV PG gives more freedom, but it's neccessary for it to be TV-14. It's like the wrestling fans who bemoan the PG Era. The problems with the PG Era had nothing to do with a PG rating, just bad booking. People forget that the TV-14 WWE was also home to terrible gimmicks like the Katie Vick story and HLA.

As for Katie Vick: what? You can't deal with a little emotion in your wrestling? It was an emotional storyline. It was genuine.

The Katie Vick story utilized implied necrophilia for shock value, and HLA glorified violence against women. On top of that they were shitty angles. The Attitude and Ruthless Aggression Eras were full of garbage like that. Adult oriented, but garbage.

Kane and his brother, the Undertaker, are creatures of darkness. Necrophilia is part of their cultural heritage; it is neither insulting nor shocking to them.

If skimming Twitter tells me anything, it's that most folks are only watching Attack on Trains for anime girls with outrageously defined back muscles.

I'm not convinced EH actually even likes MLP - could be some longplay trolling. Trying to say there's anything macho about MLP - pretty dead giveaway.

Roid Rage, Iron Will, Rainbow Dash - I could go on, but I've already proven the point.

Also, I've never seen an episode of MLP where all the characters sit around crying.

None of the clips you guys have shared of this show have enticed me to watch it, so either this show is not my cup of tea or you aren't expressing its virtues very well. Or it just blows.

Steven Universe has explored some pretty amazing subjects and themes so far, even for this new wave of creator-driven kids' shows. Diplomacy, loss, betrayal, love and relationships of many kinds, breaking molds both classical and established within the show itself... doesn't hurt that the music, art and animation are pretty damned great too.

In college I went through a cartoon phase. My favorite by far was Kim Possible, but I watched most of the tween-targeted, anime-inspired stuff that was on at the time. After college, I moved on to real Japanese anime in my 20's, but now I barely watch TV at all. Just some PBS when they have good science or history stuff.

I've been in much the same boat RE: barely watching TV/anime, but I've been trying to get back into things on friends' recommendations. I'm just rubbish at following broadcast schedules; Netflix has been a godsend there, but if I had a Nielsen box I'd be doing my damnedest to watch this and a few other shows regularly.

Speaking of anime, if you're keen on mystery thrillers, you should check out Erased. It's kind of like if The Butterfly Effect wasn't scrambled dogshit, and it's only twelve episodes so it's not a huge investment.

Girly? Just cause most of the characters are female coded genderless space rocks and a boy who wears a pink shirt does not make it girly. Remember when I used to be too tough to like MLP and changed? Well if I had been too "macho" for that I might have missed out on the best cartoon ever, which is Steven Universe.

R&M and SU complement each other *really* well, like the two sides of being alive.

Jokes aside, a person's got to marvel at how much smarter and better cartoons are these days than they were a decade ago, to say nothing of the 90s or the accursed 80s or 70s. Taking a break from the action because a character has to process some grief, and choosing to do it in a well-executed original show tune ... that's pretty high quality viewing.

The whole episode reminded me of that old Tom & Jerry cartoon where Jerry goes to The Big City to see the sights and live it up, except with more pathos.

Plus, seeing a woman in a tailored suit just does things to me.
