Caminante Nocturno - 2016-07-22

If I had to choose the best episode for this show, it would be this one. The whole thing was just amazing.

Cena_mark - 2016-07-22

What I loved about this episode is how it 's making Pewey so much more possible.

Xenocide - 2016-07-22

I can't decide if this one or Sworn to the Sword is my favorite. All I know is, Dee Dee Mango Hall can fucking sing.

Cena_mark - 2016-07-22

She can sing, but I'm totally marked out for Lapis Lazuli.

Sanest Man Alive - 2016-07-22

A lot of the cast are trained singers to some degree, although Tom Scherpling has a hard time carrying a tune in a bucket. He plays the best cartoon dad ever though, so it's easy to forgive.

Cena_mark - 2016-07-22

Steven Universe is the best cartoon on TV. Evil Homer should watch it.

EvilHomer - 2016-07-22

Fluttershy and I are currently watching "It's Attack on Titan Only This Time With Trains". So sorry, Stefan Looneyworst will have to wait.

Hazelnut - 2016-07-22

I caught three episodes of Steven Universe on a plane and now I'm hooked. It's so kind-hearted and yet cool and science-fictioney.

EvilHomer - 2016-07-22

You people and your children's cartoons.

Gmork - 2016-07-22

My Little Pony is a children's cartoon, Steven Universe is an entire order of magnitude more serious and engaging.

Hazelnut - 2016-07-22

Gmork is correct.

Cena_mark - 2016-07-22

Gmork is correct. Granted MLP is great, but it's limited in what it can do. SU with it's TVPG rating has so much more freedom.

Xenocide - 2016-07-22

Attack on Titan is more of a children's cartoon than Steven or MLP. It's defined by the sort of grimdark nihilism that edgy suburban 13 year olds confuse with maturity.

EvilHomer - 2016-07-22

Xenocide is correct. But we're not watching Attack on Titan. We're watching "Attack on Titan Only This Time With Trains". You know, it's the one all with the zombie-vampires who keep attacking trains, while a nerdy steampunk S&M fetishist and his DoD recruitment-propaganda galpal try to shoot them in the face? I forget the name of it, but it'd be at least TV-14, so it is better than SU.

EvilHomer - 2016-07-22

Anyways, I'm ashamed in all of you. Caminante I can expect this sort of behavior from, but Xenocide? Hazelbutt? Cena?

My god, am I the only real macho dude left here?!

Cena_mark - 2016-07-22

TV PG gives more freedom, but it's neccessary for it to be TV-14. It's like the wrestling fans who bemoan the PG Era. The problems with the PG Era had nothing to do with a PG rating, just bad booking. People forget that the TV-14 WWE was also home to terrible gimmicks like the Katie Vick story and HLA.

Xenocide - 2016-07-22

Homer getting all high and mighty because he somehow got invested in the Aslyum mockbuster version of attack on titan

EvilHomer - 2016-07-22

HLA was awesome and you know it.

As for Katie Vick: what? You can't deal with a little emotion in your wrestling? It was an emotional storyline. It was genuine.

Cena_mark - 2016-07-22

The Katie Vick story utilized implied necrophilia for shock value, and HLA glorified violence against women. On top of that they were shitty angles. The Attitude and Ruthless Aggression Eras were full of garbage like that. Adult oriented, but garbage.

EvilHomer - 2016-07-22

Huh, sounds like someone here is necrophobic.

Kane and his brother, the Undertaker, are creatures of darkness. Necrophilia is part of their cultural heritage; it is neither insulting nor shocking to them.

Sanest Man Alive - 2016-07-22

If skimming Twitter tells me anything, it's that most folks are only watching Attack on Trains for anime girls with outrageously defined back muscles.

Gmork - 2016-07-23

I'm not convinced EH actually even likes MLP - could be some longplay trolling. Trying to say there's anything macho about MLP - pretty dead giveaway.

EvilHomer - 2016-07-23

Roid Rage, Iron Will, Rainbow Dash - I could go on, but I've already proven the point.

EvilHomer - 2016-07-23

Also, I've never seen an episode of MLP where all the characters sit around crying.

baleen - 2016-07-23

None of the clips you guys have shared of this show have enticed me to watch it, so either this show is not my cup of tea or you aren't expressing its virtues very well. Or it just blows.

Cena_mark - 2016-07-23

Homer, here's the greatest reason why you should watch SU. Here's a pic of your favorite wrestler Xavier Woods cosplaying as Garnet. Yet you claimed he wasn't a total mark for SU.
https://twitter.com/XavierWoodsPhD/status/756592858371543040

EvilHomer - 2016-07-23

That doesn't mean anything. The Undertaker had that whole American Badass angle, but that didn't mean he was a biker. Hector Guerrero dressed up as the Gobbledy Gooker, but that doesn't mean he was a turkey.

Cena_mark - 2016-07-23

This isn't an angle. He's doing it for love of his favorite show. He's still a brownie, but knows SU is objectively superior.

Gmork - 2016-07-23

"Roid Rage, Iron Will, Rainbow Dash"

Those words mean nothing to me. They certainly don't prove anything about the show or its supposed merits. It seems to have none.

EvilHomer - 2016-07-23

You know nothing about the show, Gmork, yet you formulate opinions about it nonetheless.

Could you imagine if *I* did something that blatantly ignorant? The ruckus it would cause?!

"Oooo, I can't think of any gems who happen to be lesbian fusions in Steven Universe, oooo my name's Gmork, duuuurrrrr"

EvilHomer - 2016-07-23

"He's still a brownie"?!

Dude!!!

The New Meat - 2016-07-22

Are you sure this is from Steven Universe? I didn't see any emotionally manipulative weeping in this clip. Oh wait there it is.

Cena_mark - 2016-07-22

It's emotionally manipulative, it's genuine.

The New Meat - 2016-07-22

Kids sure love their crying cartoons.

Xenocide - 2016-07-22

Emotions are bad and should be hated, etc.

EvilHomer - 2016-07-22

Weeping is the sort of cheerylight emotional manipulation that sensitive suburban 30 year olds confuse with maturity.

Cena_mark - 2016-07-22

Suburban? I'll have you know that I am now a sophisticated New Yorker.

EvilHomer - 2016-07-22

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIttpUxlo50

Cena_mark - 2016-07-23

Typical NYC hating rube.

EvilHomer - 2016-07-23

Have you gone to Canal Street yet? Have you bought a pair of fake Raybans and one of those "I Heart NYC" t-shirts?

That's the best way to fit in, I think.

Cena_mark - 2016-07-23

Not yet. Most my time in NYC thus far has been dedicated to apartment hunting, so I haven't been wasting any time on Manhattan as I can't afford anything there.

EvilHomer - 2016-07-23

The Coast Guard doesn't provide you with housing? Jesus man, good luck finding a place that won't cost you more than your firstborn child. :(

You could always do like the locals and sleep on the subway?

Cena_mark - 2016-07-23

I opted out of it. I don't want to live in some smelly barracks. My housing allowance is pretty good, and what I don't spend I keep.

Spaceman Africa - 2016-07-22

hey this is pretty deep

Cena_mark - 2016-07-22

You don't even know the context. You can't judge this. WATCH THE DAMN SHOW!

15th - 2016-07-22

Is this a cartoon?!!

Cena_mark - 2016-07-22

Cartoons are good. Steven Universe is the best.

gravelstudios - 2016-07-22

I've never seen this show, and I don't intend to start watching it now, but that being said, this clip was really good. I would not have expected something this good from a network cartoon.

Cena_mark - 2016-07-22

Have you seen Over the Garden Wall? Also CN and excellent.

Sanest Man Alive - 2016-07-22

Steven Universe has explored some pretty amazing subjects and themes so far, even for this new wave of creator-driven kids' shows. Diplomacy, loss, betrayal, love and relationships of many kinds, breaking molds both classical and established within the show itself... doesn't hurt that the music, art and animation are pretty damned great too.

gravelstudios - 2016-07-22

In college I went through a cartoon phase. My favorite by far was Kim Possible, but I watched most of the tween-targeted, anime-inspired stuff that was on at the time. After college, I moved on to real Japanese anime in my 20's, but now I barely watch TV at all. Just some PBS when they have good science or history stuff.

Sanest Man Alive - 2016-07-22

I've been in much the same boat RE: barely watching TV/anime, but I've been trying to get back into things on friends' recommendations. I'm just rubbish at following broadcast schedules; Netflix has been a godsend there, but if I had a Nielsen box I'd be doing my damnedest to watch this and a few other shows regularly.

Speaking of anime, if you're keen on mystery thrillers, you should check out Erased. It's kind of like if The Butterfly Effect wasn't scrambled dogshit, and it's only twelve episodes so it's not a huge investment.

RedRust - 2016-07-22

This episode executed a musical in 10 minutes.

EvilHomer - 2016-07-22

Steven Joss Whedoverse.

Binro the Heretic - 2016-07-22

So much love for this show.

Boomer The Dog - 2016-07-22

No actual shapeshifting in the video, but that was a high class number for a cartoon.

It's good to bring the musical form into cartoons, that's the old way of Disney that I remember as a younger pup, ALL Disney animations seemed to break out into song at any given moment.

I wonder if it was Family Guy that brought musicals to cartoons of today with their Vegas showstoppers?

Boomer

Cena_mark - 2016-07-23

Here's a bunch of shapeshifting.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGxtS_kq498

GravidWithHate - 2016-07-22

A friend of mine who I got to watch the show despite his initial misgivings asked me "Why didn't you just tell me it turned into non-stop lesbian melodrama?".

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2016-07-23

I've seen maybe one episode of this show. It just looked so girly that I never went back to it, save for a few excellent clips here.

I don't know why I have no desire to watch this series, but I don't think anything can top Rick and Morty in terms of being the best animated series at the moment.

Cena_mark - 2016-07-23

Girly? Just cause most of the characters are female coded genderless space rocks and a boy who wears a pink shirt does not make it girly. Remember when I used to be too tough to like MLP and changed? Well if I had been too "macho" for that I might have missed out on the best cartoon ever, which is Steven Universe.

Hazelnut - 2016-07-23

R&M and SU complement each other *really* well, like the two sides of being alive.

Kid Fenris - 2016-07-24

Rick and Morty is cynical garbage.

Bort - 2016-07-23

Does Vaughn ever explain why she can't moo?

Bort - 2016-07-23

Jokes aside, a person's got to marvel at how much smarter and better cartoons are these days than they were a decade ago, to say nothing of the 90s or the accursed 80s or 70s. Taking a break from the action because a character has to process some grief, and choosing to do it in a well-executed original show tune ... that's pretty high quality viewing.

Sanest Man Alive - 2016-07-23

The whole episode reminded me of that old Tom & Jerry cartoon where Jerry goes to The Big City to see the sights and live it up, except with more pathos.

Plus, seeing a woman in a tailored suit just does things to me.
