You know, I'm kind of surprised. I thought by now he'd be going the normal route and pretending to be more stoic to become president and whatnot. I mean I honestly didn't think he could possibly top himself on how offensive he could get. I thought nothing could top his remarks about John McCain in how much he didn't give a fuck about the rule of you don't talk shit about the military when running for public office. But oh man was I ever wrong.

Here is her response, btw.

The father in the case called him "a person without a soul." Laid the smack down on him. At this point I think our best chance is an "at long last have you no dignity" McCarthy moment. Can't come too soon.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-08-01

Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush... They all seem so kind and intelligent all of a sudden!

Cena_mark - 2016-08-01

He handled this in perhaps the worst way possible. Doesn't this guy have PR people? Does he listen to them?

Oscar Wildcat - 2016-08-01

I don't think he needs to. The dude speaks fluent Second Grader. That's been what has the media people so perplexed. The new voters trump is bringing in don't follow any of the usual media channels. He can make comments like this and by the time it filters through ten more things have come up to take precedence. Just part of the white noise.

It's an ...interesting state of affairs. The Democrats need some actual 2nd grade consultants. It would help. Sorry Miss Henson, your class is just too far advanced to be of much use.

EvilHomer - 2016-08-01

I don't know, Mr Wildcat. Do you really think the Democrats are ready to step up their game by one whole grade level?

EvilHomer - 2016-08-01

And speaking of non-arguments, I guess I didn't really expect much out of this story, but I think it's telling that "the usual media" channels are unwilling (or unable?) to rationally refute the points Trump made - they are instead focusing entirely on character-assassination and emotional fluff. Meanwhile, Trump might be able to identify a problem that is of actual concern to voters, and communicate it in a way that voters understand, but he is leaving out one VERY important detail: this massive uptick in "Islamic terrorism" is largely the result of Hillary and Obama's policy of training ISIS, arming ISIS, and bombing the shit out of Syria on behalf of the oiligarchs, meaning that Syria could no longer fight against ISIS in our glorious ISIS-Syria NATO/Russia proxy war.

Instead, if he even mentions CFR complicity at all, Trump will probably just insinuate that Hillary and her pals triggered the migrant crisis which is, as we speak, rapidly ending rule-of-law across all of Europe, not because Hillary is an evil old neocon hag who salivates whenever women and children suffer (which would be true, albeit insulting to Trump's own evil-hag-neocon base), but because she and Obama were "too soft on Muslims" and didn't "attack the Constitution enough".

And then all the mainstream Dems will freak out, turning right back into the hippie-dippie libertarians they pretended to be in 2004 - but by then it'll be too late, because Trump and the Lion Guard will be rolling those damn FEMA trucks out for you the moment the Republic collapses.

fedex - 2016-08-01

wow man that was some serious shark-jumping

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2016-08-01

Homer, are you, like, okay?

Also: are you considering voting for Trump, or what?

Gmork - 2016-08-01

Homer's so deep into his bit he doesn't even know what his actual position is anymore, or whether it's a troll. If you could get paid to be a professional contrarian, Homer would own Dubai by this point.

EvilHomer - 2016-08-01

I'm not voting for Trump. I never signed any social contract with the bipartisan corporatist system, and I don't believe for a second that anyone vetted by the MSM either can help, or wish to help, me, my loved ones, or you guys - my friends.

That said, if I DID still buy into the fiction of the state, and if I WERE to somehow forget the absolute futility of the voting-ritual - then no, I still wouldn't vote for Trump. I'd cast a write-in vote for the Pirate Party. Barring that, I'd vote for Gary Johnson. Barring that, I'd vote Jill Stein. Then I'd work my way on down through Vermin Supreme, Zoltan Istvan, Ron Paul, Bernie, and Clifton Roberts, mostly because I like his moxy.

Only after that would I consider voting for Trump, because a) he doesn't (yet) have as much blood on his hands as his old friend Hillary, and b) as I've pointed out before, his daughter went to my school, so a Trump Presidency might very well see my old hometown get a nice new Presidential library and/or casino-themed student activities center. That would be nice. I like seeing my community get stuff.

In all honesty, I'd rather just skip him and vote Ivanka directly, but God knows, the way we're going, we'll never see a decent woman president. And at any rate, I'll be too busy working in the underground railroad, ferrying you poor bastards out of the country and off towards your freedom in Mexico or Estonia, to really worry about who next gets to wield the guns of the empire.

EvilHomer - 2016-08-01

... the main point being, though, that the news interview presented here is garbage, the "rebutalls" (or whatever they are), garbage, and Trump's own rhetoric, little more than a smidge above garbage - which at this point is really all we can hope for from our televised would-be masters.

EvilHomer - 2016-08-01

You know, Gmork, it's strange you mention that. I met a nice Muslim cab drive today, who was telling me about his friend in Dubai, and how the two of them were planning on starting a few businesses there. I've seriously considered moving to Dubai in the past, and perhaps the universe is telling me that it's time to move to where the future is being built?

Well, until Hillary or Trump shows up to bomb it.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2016-08-02

EvilHomer, I've been making the point for over a year that Obama arming the rebels against Assad and invoking a Cold War with Russia allowed ISIS to strengthen and fucked over countless people and no one I know seems to care. Everyone either hates Obama because he doesn't bomb Muslims enough (but he does! all the goddamn time!) or because they think he's so fucking dreamy and sounds so intelligent and still makes those moving speeches. I fucking hate how stupid most Americans are at being emotionally manipulated. When Obama invaded Libya, 75% of Americans were against it. He did it anyway. He follows the protocol of the CIA. Likewise, 75-80% of Americans didn't want to go into Syria and fucking did so anyway. He does whatever the hell he wants, the same as Bush and I fucking hate him for it.

This shit is really no exception, only I hate how Trump fell for the bait. He fell for it hook, line and sinker. You just don't pursue a fight with the parents of dead soldiers. It's a complete PR no win. Now you have these poor people thinking Hillary is going to save the world from Muslim haters, when all she wants is to hand our economy over to Goldman Sachs.

Over half of Hillary voters are only voting for her because they hate Trump so much and over half of Trump voters are voting for him because they hate Hillary so much. Most people this election are voting out of hate. That's not a good recipe.

baleen - 2016-08-02

"
He handled this in perhaps the worst way possible. Doesn't this guy have PR people? Does he listen to them?" Trump has been surrounded by sycophantic yes-men since he inherited ,000,000 in the early 70's. He has no sense of reality.

F3AR - 2016-08-28

he's about to show everyone you CAN talk shit about the military, or whoever he wants, and become president.

if youre not on the trump train, get over then, cuz its about to run u the fuck over

if youre not team trump, i feel sorry for you, landslide victory.

Lord_Crocodilicus - 2016-08-01

Muslims demonizing Donald Trump is going to do nothing to hinder his campaign. One Muslim in America loving America doesn't mean every Muslim in America loves America, just as one Muslim hating western culture doesn't mean every Muslim hates western culture.
That said, it's a lot easier to find one than it is to find the other.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2016-08-01

American Muslims tend to be pretty moderate and have traditionally voted for conservative candidates. Until, uh, you know.

Caminante Nocturno - 2016-08-01

If a Muslim woman utters more sentences than her husband in a public setting, she reverts back to her seal form and must return to the ocean forever.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2016-08-02

***** ghost stars for you, my friend

Enjoy - 2016-08-01

"When Pat Smith, the mother of a victim of the terrorist attack in Benghazi spoke she was fact checked and attacked by members of the mainstream media. Chris Matthews bashed Smith, calling her comments 'a gross accusation' and said of the grieving widow 'I don’t care what that woman felt.'"

So I guess it's OK for the DNC to prop up a grieving parent who was killed by a Muslim but it's not OK for the RNC to point out other victims of Muslims.

Cena_mark - 2016-08-01

Yes it is. The reason why Pat Smith was bashed was for riding the damned conspiracy train. It would be like bringing out a relative of a 9/11 victim to the 2004 DNC and having him claim that her husband was murdered by George W. Bush.

Caminante Nocturno - 2016-08-01

The incompetence of the Bush administration was a big part of 9/11, so that claim would not be inaccurate.

Anaxagoras - 2016-08-01

That's a perfect analogy, Cena. Nicely put.

Anaxagoras - 2016-08-01

No, that claim would NOT be accurate. The strongest thing that could be said would be that Bush CONTRIBUTED to killing the 9/11 victim, which is a far cry from actually killing the victim.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2016-08-02

Good point. Can these people stop hauling out families of dead soldiers to try to make us cry? Thanks.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2016-08-02

Cena, I disagree. We're not talking about imaginary motives and actions, we're talking about publicly known actions. It's a whole different category.

Binro the Heretic - 2016-08-01

What an awful fucking turd

Anaxagoras - 2016-08-01

Yup. And I've already seen the false equivalence arguments begin:

"If liberals were forced to vote for either Rick Santorum or a liberal version of Donal Trump, they'd be conflicted too!"

I'm sure some would, but most of us would be sufficiently repulsed by rampant narcissism, sexism, racism, and xenophobia that we'd put on our big boy pants and vote for Santorum. I know I would.

Caminante Nocturno - 2016-08-01

I'm trying to think of a liberal version of Donald Trump, and nothing is coming up. I can't even think of a fictional character that would fit the bill.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2016-08-02

Slate actually just suggested Sean Penn, which might work. Or Alec Baldwin. So, then: if faced with the choice, would you vote for Ted Cruz or Alec Baldwin?

Anaxagoras - 2016-08-02

But those aren't really "liberal Donal Trumps". As far as I know, they're not nearly as toxic.... they're just kinda kooky. And I would happily elect "kinda kooky" rather than Ted Cruz, since I consider Ted Cruz morally reprehensible & likely to put morally repugnant policies into effect.

Caminante has a point: I really can't think of a liberal equivalent. *shrug*

I think the whole equivalence argument is designed to help us non-conservatives have some empathy for conservatives' presidential choices. But I'm sorry, if you're even considering voting for Cheeto Jesus, there's something seriously wrong with you. Empathy: failed.

Caminante Nocturno - 2016-08-02

I would vote for a rejected Captain Planet villain over Ted Cruz, and apparently I wasn't the only one who felt that way.

bawbag - 2016-08-01

If there's one thing that unites the majority of Americans, it's that inbuilt/learned adulation of the military and most especially of the ones who died in service.

Dumbest move on the part of Trump to take a swing at that particular sacred cow given his Republican base, but then he's never been smart enough to know when to shut up.

Sanest Man Alive - 2016-08-02

Whoa, whoa, STOP

Back the FUCK up

Trump can actually imply things now? Oh my gosh, he's learning subtlety! They grow up so fast! Oh, I'm so glad we got the moment on camera

Think I'm getting teary-eyed here

It's like in some kind of involuntary reflexive spasm, the Republicans responded to the first black president by nominating the ultimate narcissistic, entitled, self-deluding white man. When he talks about his own sacrifices... to Gold star parents... it's.. it's just... I mean...
