This is a perfect example of why I can't respect religious people.

This is not a stupid person. I'm not saying he's a genius, but he's able to more or less correctly parse what it says in the bible and speak about it for at least an hour a week. He *knows* that misogyny isn't a new word, and he *knows* not being misogynist doesn't mean you and your wife have to be identical robots. He *knows* that what equality means is equal protections and rights and privileges within the context of society as a whole and that the details of domestic relationships are entirely up to the discretion of the consenting adults involved.

He knows these things and he pretends like he doesn't because it makes it easier for him to paint his ideological opponents as backwards according to his religion.

He also knows that he's speaking to an empty room but if he positions the camera just so, he can obscure that from the viewer.

Monkey Napoleon - 2016-08-09

Nah, there's at least 3 people in that room behind the camera. You can hear them mumbling in agreement.

Monkey Napoleon - 2016-08-09

That also reminds me: you can pretend this guy is a nut talking in empty room and that his sentiments aren't INSANELY popular among christians... but you'd be wrong. On a scale of 1 to 100, I respect this guy at a 2 instead of the 1 I'd rate more waffle-y mainstream christians who downplay the evil shit they believe by masking it with subtler language.

I respect WBC in the same way, which is still not very much, but at least they've chosen a specific set of scriptures that are actually in the bible and are internally consistent to preach and they don't fuck around with trying to mask the language or the obvious conclusions to be socially acceptable.

What I'm saying is that the bible fucking sucks and there's no way to read it in a positive light unless you're ignoring 3/4ths of it.

Getting angry about gender roles specifically is a thing with this guy.

People who speak in coded language can do so because it's academic for them; as long as they make their money and don't lose an argument, all's well, but Anderson is a closeted gay dude trying to convince himself and other's he's straight, so he's emotionally invested in a really deep way.

Monkey Napoleon - 2016-08-09

Eh, at any other point in my life I might have bought that explanation for his focus on gender roles... but it's kind of a huge social and political subject getting a lot of attention recently. He might be a closet sausage-lad, but someone emotionally invested in desert nomad status quo circa 0 AD really doesn't need any other reason to be creepily preoccupied with gender roles.

Chancho - 2016-08-08

Only thing this guy wrestles with is his latent homosexuality. *rimshot*

Maggot Brain - 2016-08-08

Just how many times does the word "faggotty" show up in the bible?

Xenocide - 2016-08-08

That's one of those new words. I never heard that word growing up.

blue vein steel - 2016-08-09

I think it can be found in the "Two Corinthians" that Donald Trump loves

blue vein steel - 2016-08-08

CM Punk's still got it

wtf japan - 2016-08-08

From the Andy Kaufman Theological Society lecture series

Xenocide - 2016-08-08

This sounds like a pretty decent setup for a popular anime.

IN A WORLD WHERE ALL ASPECTS OF SOCIETY REVOLVE AROUND ARM WRESTLING, ONE MAN BECAME THE STRONGEST OF ALL. HE WAS CALLED, "GOD-MAN OF ARM WRESTLING," AND ONLY HE COULD DECIDE WHO HAD RIGHTS.

THIS IS THE STORY OF AN AMBITIOUS YOUNG GIRL WITH A STRONG SENSE OF JUSTICE, WHOSE FATHER WAS THE THIRD ARM-WRESTLING KING. NOW SHE WILL INCREASE HER POWER THROUGH TRAINING AND BATTLES AND CHALLENGE THE GOD-MAN OF ARM WRESTLING, TO BECOME THE FIRST GIRL EVER TO HAVE RIGHTS!

*Five-minute theme song plays*

So basically a gender swapped reboot of Sylvester Stallone's Over the Top...

Xenocide - 2016-08-08

The back cover of Over the Top's VHS box features my favorite write-up in the history of bad 80's movies.

magnesium - 2016-08-08

So you're saying I've gotta beat Gay Mathew Fox at arm wrestling, now?

Aernaroth2 - 2016-08-08

Probably pretty easy to do, frankly.

This isn't the first time this guy has shown up, and it really seems to me that he's a guy who strongly hopes someone will take a swing at him someday so he can hit them without sacrificing what he sees as his moral superiority. I don't think it'll work out for him as well as he thinks.

pastorofmuppets - 2016-08-09

Yeah, we should probably have a Steven Anderson tag.

EvilHomer - 2016-08-09

If I know my Kaufman bits - and I do! - then this is part of some weird sexual fetish of his.

memedumpster - 2016-08-09

Bob Larson's escaped Moonchild is still living it up, I see.
