The hijab is a complicated issue involving deep cultural values and traditions in a part of the world westerners are hard pressed to truly give a shit about, so it's important before often-quick-to-form-opinions westerners begin shouting about equality and feminism to step back and ask themselves how profoundly do they truly understand the situation and how invested are they in the outcome of the debate they're entering into. Sometimes, it truly is more important for cultures which are not your own to solve issues for themselves. Most of the time, in fact.
That being said, sometimes it's entirely appropriate to look down on other cultures.
