Anybody who didn't like Chris Hemsworth's male Gracie Allen character in Ghostbusters... well, I disagree, but not that strongly. Regardless, I always knew he had a gift for comedy. There's always a moment when Thor's Asgardian bluster slips for a moment and Hemsworth provided what was for me the biggest LOL of both Avengers movies. ("He's adopted.") ("Fortunately, I am mighty!") It's all about timing.

MRAs think the ditzy receptionist role in Ghostbusters was demeaning to men, but the reality (as opposed to the imagined symbolism) was that giving a hunky guy like Hemsworth this kind of comic role was a positive step for male actors everywhere.

I'd prefer that Thor had been off doing something outrageous, instead of something mundane. I think this could be better. But with Chris Hemsworth parodying Thor (and not for the first time) it couldn't be bad.

"Is anyone attacking my sacred cow right at this moment? No? I'll just pretend they are."

Anaxagoras - 2016-08-30

...or he could just be praising an actor that he likes. An actor that happens to be in this clip.

This seems pretty calculated to piss off racists. I love it.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-08-30

I just hope that Chris Hemsworth gets more opportunities to be funny, and Nominal gets more opportunities to be a huge tool.

EvilHomer - 2016-08-30

That's not really fair, Mr Holmes. Nominal was offering some good insight, but he can't help you if you won't accept his help.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-08-30

After seeing Ghostbusters, Kevin Smith declared Chris Hemsworth "The God of Chuckles."

I'm not really citing this as an endorsement.

EvilHomer - 2016-08-30

I don't know who these people are.

EvilHomer - 2016-08-30

And why is Kevin Smith talking about a film made in the early 80s?

Monkey Napoleon - 2016-08-30

Jesus Christ... Casting a hunk as a funny nerd isn't progressive.

I'm not a guy who believes this kind of thing effects society quite as much as current hype would have you believe, but if anything... the particular piece of casting perpetuates the stereotype of the man as the idiot foil.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-08-31

I didn't say it was "progressive", I said it was good for actors, in that it was a step toward less typecasting. But never mind that, I was just thinking out loud, I'm perfectly willing to dial it back.

I think its great that Chris Hemsworth got to play role that's pure screwball, and its something I wouldn't ordinarily expect to see.
There. I'll gladly stand on that statement.

Nominal, why would I think that someone was attacking one of my sacred cows, when I was the only one who had posted anything? Obviously, I was the one who brought it up. Because I'm obsessed with the Ghostbusters movie, and why the fuck not? Last week,Hillary week, Time magazine's cover story was about online trolls, Hillary Clinton was weighing in on the hacking of Leslie Jones, aand that Milo asshole, (or, as I like to call him, Andrew Dice Gay" ) was going to get his Twitter account. He doesn't have a leg to stand on legally, but this is going to get worse. The monkeys have only begun to throw their poop. Why shouldn't I be fascinated? It's the zeitgeist.

And based on monitoring Twitter, I think some of you are going
to be surprised at the following this movie has. Most of them are women, so naturally, no one noticed, but they're someof the craziest fans I've ever encountered. Its not going away. There's going to be at least one Holtzmann cosplayer, and probably several at every Comicon for the rest of uour natural life.

A young woman tweeted "Its the first movie Ive ever seen where the omen were people." Those of us with penises should should take a breath before dismissing her.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-08-31

I posted that literally around 45 seconds before my phone died.

EvilHomer - 2016-08-31

Hillary Clinton hates and fears youth culture! Gee, what else is new?

She was Thatcher for the Doom generation, now she'll be Thatcher for the Twitter generation.

EvilHomer - 2016-08-31

Anyway, it's woth pointing out that this ridiculous Red(it) Scare thing is just political theatre. It's a way of appealing to elderly voters (who are frightened by technology) and a way of prepping the soil for the barrage of new pro-NSA, anti-freedom legislation that is always right around the corner. The only way to win is not to play their games, Mr Holmes.

Which I think is what Nominal was getting at. You've internalized this toxic us-versus-them narrative which American culture has sold to you, to the point where you are literally killing your phone battery, swinging at enemies who (by your own admission!) do not even exist.

GQ - 2016-08-31

I think hating a bunch of racist neo-fascists is a totally appropriate reaction. Just cause they hate Hillary doesn't make the alt-right better.

GQ - 2016-08-31

And the current Leslie Jones thing isn't trolling, it's that someone hacked her computer/phone and website, to make her homepage full of personal information, and naked photos. Which is and should be absolutely illegal.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2020-05-05

I sure hope it's not considered "Youth Culture".

poorwill - 2016-08-30

I saw this 4 times before I got 'cutoffs coming out'.
