90 minutes of Battlestar Galactica?! SWEET!!

Maggot Brain - 2016-09-06

Show canceled due to racism.

EvilHomer - 2016-09-06

Is there any evidence for this? I don't know much about the ins and outs of Star Trek, but Wikipedia claims Star Trek got cancelled due to declining quality and poor ratings (caused by a bad time-slot, which was given to them following a feud between Star Trek and Laugh-In)

Maggot Brain - 2016-09-06

It's brought up here a little but stations in the South didn't like Nichelle Nichols having lines.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-09-06

Maybe it was a good thing Star Trek was canceled. Even Nimoy admitted a decline in the quality of the scripts. Would there have been as demand for the movies and the different series , without that frustrating sense of being prematurely cut off? There may be an alternate universe where the answer is known.

EvilHomer - 2016-09-06

Perhaps they could reboot the original series, only this time, swap the genders?

Also they should make Male Uhura dumb.

chumbucket - 2016-09-06

Gerald's collection room. Damn.

I can still literally remember my first second of watching Star Trek, almost 50 years ago, after I convinced my grandparents to change the channel. At the time, we only had a black and white TV, and we didn't even get NBC.

We missed the prolouge and the opening theme, and came in during the first commercial break. After the commercial, a landing party beams up on board the Enterprise. Spock is hurt, unable to stand by himself. McCoy says "Good thing his heart is where his liver should be, or he'd be dead." Can anybody name the episode?

Episode 2x16, "A Private Little War".

The exact line is even quoted.

Homer, even if you got the answer by Googling the line, which I was just about to do, here are the stars I rightly owe you. Take these, brother, may they serve thee well!

February, 2 1968, I would have been 9 years old.

I DuckDuckGo'd the line, but it sounded vaguely familiar (I having watched TOS in its entirety last year).

You probably know this already, but you can watch it out on Netflix.

Two Jar Slave - 2016-09-06

My first exposure to the original series of Star Trek was the Yosemite Park camping scene from Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. It is considered to be the worst movie in the franchise, and the worst scene in the movie, but for some inexplicable reason it made lil' 2Jar an instant fan.

EvilHomer - 2016-09-07

I'm not sure what my first exposure to Star Trek was, but it probably involved beer bottles, sick pets, and my drunken stepfather screaming at me and my mom because he wanted to watch his progamme.

Same goes for my first exposure to Doctor Who and Wolverine.

EvilHomer - 2016-09-07

... and Anne McCaffery, and Piers Anthony, and yes even the very internet itself.

Sort of what happened with mecha anime, too - I do remember what happened with that. We weren't at my mom's house, though, we were at the county dump, and I found a really cool Macross toy in the Kid's section. Then my stepdad, who had probably been drinking that morning, started bitching because we were taking too long, and he wanted to fuck off home and watch Star Trek.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-09-07

I knew you could watch TOS and TNG on Netflix, but last time I checked, Hulu (the pay version) has ALL Star Trek Series in all Star Trek series in their entirety, from TOS Enterprise.

Incidentally, you know what pissed me off? After 40 years, I finally started to get into Dr. WHO, and a few weeks later, HULU and NETFLIX BOTH dropped it siumltaneously! Clearly I was being fucked by the BBC. (Winky face emoji).
