Xenocide - 2016-09-15

I'm starting to suspect there might be a gay character on this show.

Hazelnut - 2016-09-15

Gems are genderless; they use female shapes and the 'she' pronoun because if you're a genderless alien it's more intuitive to follow the 'baseline' version of the species with homogenous sex chromosomes than the 'variant' with heterogenous ones.

Xenocide - 2016-09-15

All that "genderless" stuff sounds more like a clever way for the show's writers to sneak this kind of stuff past the standards department. Gems don't have reproductive organs but Biological sex and gender aren't the same thing (I realize that by saying this sentence I have caused millions of fedoras to cry out in terror) and there's multiple instances of Gems being referred to as women or girls. They probably didn't use that identifier on their home planet but after 5,000 years on Earth they're bound to pick up on some human concepts.

And in real life, there's multiple instances of show staff saying "yeah, those are lesbian relationships, that's what we were going for" when asked that question. And if you go back far enough, the show's whole concept started from the basic idea of a young man being raised by a group of women (who all have superpowers.)

What I'm getting at here is that everything about this show is gay and you are automatically gay after watching this clip. There's no going back now. Pride Parades were just a decoy to distract Glenn Beck and James Dobson. Steven Universe is the real gay agenda. Every boy who watches it will transform into Freddy Mercury on his 18th birthday.

Cena_mark - 2016-09-15

Coded is the right word. The gems are female coded, also Garnet is black coded.

Hazelnut - 2016-09-16

And it's wonderful. This is coding used for good not evil.

The New Meat - 2016-09-15

No wonder kids love this show.

Hazelnut - 2016-09-15

I like to think it'll inspire some shy kid to go say hello to that girl. If Pearl can do it, you can!

namtar - 2016-09-15

No! Now I have to delete all my Mayor Dewey / Pearl fanfiction

Cena_mark - 2016-09-15

Stop right there. Pewey still has a chance, and it's chances have grown. This isn't bad news for Pewey shippers, it's great news. When Pearl initially brushed off Mayor Dewey, it was before Mr. Greg, when Pearl still wasn't over Rose. After Mr. Greg, Pearl got over it a good bit, and now Pearl is showing that she can be attracted to humans (Mayor Dewey is a human). Pearl and Mystery Girl will have some fun flings, but soon Mystery Girl will realize that Pearl is really a square who was just acting bad to impress her friends. Then Dewey will get the rebound.

Xenocide - 2016-09-15

Joel hooking up with Pearl? That would be worth it just for the look on Dr. Forrester's face.

Bort - 2016-09-15

http://www.poetv.com/video.php?vid=70958

Bort - 2016-09-15

Also, I just realized that Dr. Forrester built a satellite that features the disembodied voice of his mother.

EvilHomer - 2016-09-15

God, you nerds.

EvilHomer - 2016-09-15

Normally I wouldn't mind, but people are losing their lives over Steven Universe shipping, and that is going too far.

Cena_mark - 2016-09-15

No one died over SU shipping. Zamiii's attempted suicide wasn't about shipping either.

EvilHomer - 2016-09-15

The show's writer e-died over implied Peridot shipping. That's virtually the same thing.

Cena_mark - 2016-09-15

Zuke talked too much shit on twitter anyhow. She was anti-Pewey, yet she's very pro-Lapis, so I guess I stand by her.

Gmork - 2016-09-15

"God, you nerds."

Pot, calling kettle, come in kettle.

You are black, repeat, you are black!

EvilHomer - 2016-09-15

Also, SU is basically killing Xavier Woods, too. Dr Woods starts watching SU, then practically over night, he turns into a back-to-school-selling, Jordyn-Jones-dancing, corporate shill sellout. Coincidence?! Highly unlikely.

EvilHomer - 2016-09-15

Gmork - irrelevant, ad hominem. A pot is black, regardless of whether the kettle is black too.

Also racist.

Cena_mark - 2016-09-15

The New Day are still the WWE Raw Tag Team Champs. Being Crystal Gems has only made them stronger.

Gmork - 2016-09-15

Completely relevant, not an example of ad hominem, and you'd have to have brain damage to think it was racist.

You are a huge nerd. You are calling other people nerds. The expression is entirely relevant.

EvilHomer - 2016-09-15

The expression does not challenge the truth of my argument. Indeed, in so attacking my character, you concede to the truth of my position. Thus, irrelevant. Ad Hominem.

And what is so important about pointing out I'm black? What's wrong with being black? Racist.

EvilHomer - 2016-09-15

Cena - the New Day are dead to me. CM Punk would not sell out like that. The Undertaker would not dance on command for JC Penney.

Dr Woods should be enriching school-children with free lectures and TED Talks, not selling them overpriced skinny jeans!

Sanest Man Alive - 2016-09-15

I have more respect for someone selling Penney's store-brand jeans than someone giving a TED talk.

Also, the Undertaker would totally sell out, and in fact has! Or didn't you notice he's been in multiple Scooby-Doo movies now?

Cena_mark - 2016-09-15

At least New Day never used Limp Bizcut for entrance music. Also where's this commercial? I haven't seen it.

EvilHomer - 2016-09-15

But Scooby-Doo makes sense! The Undertaker is undead; and, as an Undead-American, Scooby-Doo's ghostly mystery adventures are obviously suitable for his talents.

As for TED Talks, don't hate the game, hate the player! Dr Woods'd do a great TED Talk; or could have, before SU corrupted him and turned him lame. Now he'd probably do his TED Talk on the importance of name-brand fashion or low low prices.

EvilHomer - 2016-09-15

Cena - this shit kept turning up in my Recommended List for like two weeks straight; having never shopped at JC Penney, I got curious as to why, and discovered that YT was pushing JC Penney ads on me because New Day was part of their most recent ad campaign.

New Day announcing their heel turn:
https://youtu.be/iaQz31LlyUk

and the Jordyn Jones video they've been marking for:
https://youtu.be/AxkzNHkVCjE

Pretty sure that's Carlton, too, so it's like a Bonfire of the Heroes right now.

Cena_mark - 2016-09-15

That is Carlton. The New Day aren't in the commercial, they just introduced it.
How could you turn against a fellow brony like that? Xavier Woods like me may hold SU as his favorite cartoon, but that doesn't mean he no longer likes MLP.

EvilHomer - 2016-09-15

I DIDN'T TURN AGAINST HIM, HE TURNED AGAINST ME

Cena_mark - 2016-09-15

So are you an Usos fan now? I'll bet you would like them, cause they're like two Romans.

15th - 2016-09-15

I am now a registered Republican.

Gmork - 2016-09-15

"The expression does not challenge the truth of my argument. "

That's not the purpose of the expression. The purpose of the expression is to point out hypocrisy, and it has. This is not debatable.

"Indeed, in so attacking my character, you concede to the truth of my position. Thus, irrelevant. Ad Hominem."

I never attacked your character, you are blatantly lying about events. The truth of your position? That we're all nerds? That's not your position, that's the position of every thinking person on this site. There's nothing to concede to as I was never on the opposing side of such a claim.

You continue to fail proving irrelevancy, as what I said is (still) entirely relevant. Nothing about it is "Ad hominem" because I was never opposing the idea that we are all nerds - you being one of the biggest nerds on the site.

It's really very simple: I pointed out your hypocrisy. No matter the verbal gymnastics you try and pull, I caught you dead-to-rights in a hypocritical statement.

Gmork - 2016-09-15

"And what is so important about pointing out I'm black? What's wrong with being black? Racist."

::facepalm::

That's not how words work. Just.. stop. You're being childishly stupid.

EvilHomer - 2016-09-16

"Hypocrisy", real or imagined, is irrelevant. What is relevant, is whether I am right (and I am). That is the fundamental difference between you and I, Mr Gmork - I think in terms of logic and truth, you only think in terms of emotion and ad hominem.

Cena - I don't know much about the Usos, but it looks like I will have to find a new team to mark for, so if you think they're appropriate...? Wikipedia says they are both related to Rikishi, and while I generally like Samoan wrestlers, I've never really been a fan of Rikishi. I could just wait, stop caring about wrestlers entirely until such a time as they bring Shinsuke Nakamura up from the farm leagues, but give me some highlights of the Usos work and I shall consider them as replacements for The New Sale.

The Mothership - 2016-09-15

It's a cute bit, but how is this POETV material?

Cena_mark - 2016-09-15

Because we talk about cartoons here. Awesome cartoons.

Sanest Man Alive - 2016-09-15

Are we going to have that argument here? Can we do it on a cat video instead? I don't think we've had one of those for a while; I was getting worried, but I chalked it up to an election year.

Cena_mark - 2016-09-15

Also look how progressive this cartoon is. It has a clearly bi-sexual character.

Hazelnut - 2016-09-15

It's more than cute, it's AWESOME and it's on Cartoon Network next to Uncle Grandpa.

15th - 2016-09-15

What was clever or funny about this?

Cena_mark - 2016-09-16

It's just one scene. There's much to this cartoon. It has phenomenal story telling and world building.

The Mothership - 2017-07-03

Yea, ok.

The New Meat - 2016-09-15

"my appearance is just a conscious mnifestation of light"

OH, NICE LESBIAN ERASURE THERE, STEVEN UNIVERSE. YOU MAKE ME SICK.

Cena_mark - 2016-09-15

I've been accused of lesbian erasure for shipping Pearl with Mayor Dewey. I tell them that it's not lesbian erasure, it's bi creating. If anything they commit bi erasure when they reject Pewey.
I'd also like them to have a child just like Rose and Greg did. It would be great for a spinoff and Steven could mentor the child in using his gem powers and how to deal with the struggles that come with being a gem/human hybrid.

The New Meat - 2016-09-16

None of those words you just typed make any sense.

Caminante Nocturno - 2016-09-16

I've been accused of Lesbian Erasure for playing the song Always while two girls had sex with each other.

Quad9Damage - 2016-09-16

A cartoon with a PUA routine reference? I might be sold. Is the rest of Steven Universe like this? Is there enough appeal to justify a 32-year-old watching it?

Hazelnut - 2016-09-16

Oh God yes.

Ugh - 2016-09-16

that's some lifeless animation right there, guess it's all about the story and such

lieutenant halfabeef - 2016-09-20

So...this was a FLCL episode?
