um.... How much do you know about mercury, Cody?
|
jfcaron_ca - 2016-09-28 He's right that elemental mercury won't absorb through the skin fast enough to pose a hazard. He's totally ignoring the vapours though, but I guess this is outdoors so maybe it's fine. He's right that the mercury nitrate or whatever at the end is the worst part, that stuff absorbs really fast through skin.
Basically, he's not conforming to our usual levels of overcaution, but it's kind of absurd because it's not a huge burden to overprotect yourself from mercury. Like, why not wear gloves *all* the time? What about the one time you fuck up and put your hand in the can of mercury nitrate by accident? Then you're dead.
The worst part imho is that viewers might see him handling mercury without apparent safety precautions and assume that it's totally safe. It's not. The specific things he's doing in this video are relatively safe, but there's a hell of a lot that can go wrong.

baleen - 2016-09-30 Isn't this that awesome dude that goes into abandoned mines and grows plants in them and melts silver off of street tar and weird shit like that?
I think he knows his stuff.

Mercury looks like so much fun. It's a cruel joke nature has played by making it toxic.

Besides people who are just really into toilets like Cody here, who's tried to flush a lead bullet? Murderers?
The mercury flush starburst was pretty cool.
|
Cena_mark - 2016-09-28 A murderer wouldn't likely try flushing a bullet down the toilet. Perhaps a shell, but those are hollow and made of brass, so I'd assume they'd go down easy. Also that bullet is like an old Civil War bullet, and those were huge.

T1000 is not enjoying his retirement.

Ok so he got a new toilet for this, but those plungers are clearly well used and even leave chunks floating around after he plunges the mercury.
HOW DO YOU CLEAN POOP FROM MERCURY?
Is there a Wikihow page for that?

Oscar Wildcat - 2016-09-28 Why, you distill it of course. Now we're talking dangerous! But I think he might have a clip about the subject on his channel.

This guy is definitely getting cancer. Isn't this the same guy who has an abandoned arsenic mine on his property?
|
jfcaron_ca - 2016-09-28 Yep. He got an old air compressor working so now he's digging it out with a hydraulic hammer & black powder charges. One day the channel will just stop updating and I'll have to find out the details on twitter or something.
Tbh I'm very jealous of his enthusiasm.
