This new version of KSP looks sick!

kingarthur - 2016-09-27

Is privatization really the way we want to do space exploration?

kingarthur - 2016-09-27

Wait, this is post-neoliberal America. PRIVATIZE ALL THE THINGS!

Old_Zircon - 2016-09-27

Mars = Galt's Gulch

life imitates EVE Online

It's about the least worst way I can see the 1% spending their money outside of charitable works (which typically end after maximum tax deductions are reached for the year anyhow).

Arguably it's also the only way these will happen in America, because americans love instant gratification and hate long-term, expensive projects (except war murder toys).

Old_Zircon - 2016-09-28

I don't know, we were pretty excited about publicly funded space exploration from the 50s up until the 90s.

SolRo - 2016-09-28

that's a load of crap.

americans got tired of space exploration shortly after the first moon landing.

Lef - 2016-09-28

The 1% will send their lackeys and bastard children out first. Test the systems a few times.

After a few successful flights, that's when you blow that mother fucker out of the air.

kingarthur - 2016-09-28

Is it even possible for us to find the natural resources necessary to become a space faring civilization before the explosion of our own sun though? Can we even hope to survive long enough to reach a stage of hopping from asteroid to asteroid for fuel?

TeenerTot - 2016-09-28

Nope.

Potrod - 2016-09-28

I'm all for NASA and public space exploration but I'm not sure why I'd want to therefore hinder private space exploration.

Monkey Napoleon - 2016-09-28

You haven't seen Alien?

Old_Zircon - 2016-09-28

Potrod, it's not about hindering private space exploration it's about hindering messianic Libertarian oligarchs from amassing even more power than they already have.

memedumpster - 2016-09-29

This is the cart before the horse.

Launching undesirables off the planet should be how we do space exploration.

Let the rich colonize the Sun.

cognitivedissonance - 2016-09-29

The irony of a billionaire spending billions of dollars to go to a planet, where due to Libertarianism taken to it's natural logical end result, he winds up as a janitor because all of the poor people who WOULD be janitors on Earth wouldn't have the money or education or connections to go to Mars is lost, it seems. Somebody will have to do the grunt work, and if the expectation is that the grunts have to pay for their privilege, nothing would ever get done.

Want to colonize Mars? Work with the Mormons. They'd love to get there first.

A cosmic suppository we can believe in.

I had to google around a bit to discover the fuel for this thing is methane. Leave it to humans to power their way to the stars on flatulence.
