It's about 4 minutes of game play followed by 5 of cut scenes and credits.

That's how you know the best speedruns.

Mario really is the One.

Meerkat - 2016-10-07

Why the fuck does this make me think of Mark Twain?

Comeuppance - 2016-10-07

Because scooting your butt along his work is the only way to really enjoy it.

The Celebrated Jumping Plumber of Mushroomland County.

A Brooklyn Plumber in Princess Peach's Court

Made me think of Mark Twain, too. Weird.

In my mind this game is still "too new" for me. I sort of dropped out of gaming, especially console gaming after Super Nintendo.

I've played the odd game here and there after that of course, but the newest console I have is the original Playstation. And even on the Playstation I hate platformers like this, that have the 3D tacked on with horrible camera control.

Old_Zircon - 2016-10-07

I didn't get a Super Nintendo until around '98 or '99 when the video store I was working at got rid of theirs and gave it to me.

Which is a shame, because one of my friends would always give me his NES games when they got tired of them and if I'd had an SNES he would have undoubtedly done the same when he went to college, and he had a hell of an SNES RPG collection, tons of stuff that would bee in the $200-$500 range these days, with all of the boxes and accessories. I got out of console gaming one generation too early.

garcet71283 - 2016-10-07

Hey Cube, the camera control issue was worked out 15 years ago.

Jus' sayin...

memedumpster - 2016-10-07

My last console is the PS1 as well.

Some days I think I might get a new console, the PS2 has a huge catalog of games I like the idea of playing.

Cube - 2016-10-07

garcet, that was about 5 years too late for me. And for example, The Simpsons Game is just barely 9 years old, and the problems were still there. Along with a lot of other problems, but being a Simpsons fanboy I had to drag through it. Haven't played it again since.

Gmork - 2016-10-07

Super Mario 64 came out in '96. You've had over 20 years to wrap your brain around cameras in games, in all their forms.

Also, any simpsons game you could name except for one or two on the SNES are terrible, I wouldn't use that as a basis to judge how far game camera controls have come. Games in that same era had better/worse camera controls, the Simpsons is definitely not something you'd want to use as a yardstick for progress. Almost every officially licensed game based on a movie or tv series has been absolute shit, with a few minor exceptions.

EvilHomer - 2016-10-07

Tapped Out and Arcade were pretty good.

There's also some really good, liscenced Batman games being made these days. Also the Rainbow Six series, many Star Wars titles (particularly KotOR), the TMNT arcade games, and of course Ducktales. All of these are/were pretty *major* exceptions to your alleged rule.

EvilHomer - 2016-10-07

Oh, and Golden Eye, which was widely considered to be the best multiplayer/FPS of the 64-bit era.

EvilHomer - 2016-10-07

Capcom's Marvel fighting games, too. The MvC series, which is partially liscened, is arguably the best fighting game series Capcom puts out - which, given Capcom's place in fighting game history, is pretty darn important.

Gmork - 2016-10-07

"There's also some really good, liscenced Batman games being made these days."

The brawling system is good and fluid, the games themselves are of questionable quality.

"Also the Rainbow Six series"

Can't stand them.

"many Star Wars titles (particularly KotOR)"

Even Bioware can't save KotoR. Falls utterly short of their earlier works.

"the TMNT arcade games"

Meh.

"and of course Ducktales"

You're high.

"Oh, and Golden Eye, which was widely considered to be the best multiplayer/FPS of the 64-bit era."

We're still in the 64 bit era. That number is only referring to the processor. I think you mean the mid to late 90's.

"The MvC series, which is partially liscened, is arguably the best fighting game series Capcom puts out"

MvC has always been the dumb person's go-to fighting game. Takes none of the skills that, say, Capcom vs SNK do. The tag-team format and health regeneration are for scrubs, and anyone who takes that game seriously or on a competitive level is about as laughable as nintendo nerds and their Smash Brothers obsession.

You've named a handful of titles, out of thousands possible. That is still a very small slice of the licensed games out there. Minor exception is indeed an apt way to put it.

Redford - 2016-10-07

Part of the tech behind this is from alternate dimensions 0.5 button presses guy.

The inputs are frame perfect though, so you shouldn't expect a non-TOS of this technique anytime soon.

Raggamuffin - 2016-10-07

5 stars for the half-press guy being a gift that keeps giving
