CNN is running the clip unedited on live tv. Might be able to find a better video source than this washington post story?

dairyqueenlatifah - 2016-10-08

The fallout currently happening from this is mindblowing. This has made every single news outler completely forget about the massive hurricane currently destroying Florida.

This election is crazy.

fedex - 2016-10-08

pussy always Trumps weather

(ba-ZIIIINGG!!!)

Xenocide - 2016-10-08

According to the Constitution, if everyone in Florida dies then whichever candidate can drive to that state first and plant a flag atop the governor's corpse automatically wins the state on election day. Jill Stein and the Libertarian idiot can participate too. Also Wario is competing, and he's got the blue shell!

memedumpster - 2016-10-08

Update! Matthew is now eating Georgia.

Xenocide - 2016-10-08

Let's hope Matthew's wife doesn't catch them! Hi-yo!

Zing!

That guy - 2016-10-08

What side of the looking glass are we on with this?
It seems to me, with poetv as my main news source, that Trump's already taken everyone on the fence about him and pushed or pulled them. Is this really going to sway opinions at this point?
Like..... I can't even tell if this is newsworthy at this point.

Welcome to CostCo, I love you.

memedumpster - 2016-10-08

That Guy, is that you!?

I think we fell into a parallel universe, buddy, must have been that ion storm!

Look, Hillary said this :

“If you look at the single-payer systems, like Scandinavia, Canada, and elsewhere, they can get costs down because, you know, although their care, according to statistics, overall is as good or better on primary care,”

We have to find a way to get back to our universe, god only knows what our counterparts from this universe are doing to our street cred back home. What if we don't get back by Monday!?

Bort - 2016-10-08

How the hell do you figure that's an un-Hillary-like sentiment? Hillary has been fighting harder and longer than anyone to deliver better health care to America, and it astonishes you that she speaks well of systems that work well?

Is it possible -- and I know this is crazy talk -- but is it possible that maybe you have been underestimating Hillary all along, and in reality she is not "Beezlebitch" (the most charming epithet I have seen hurled by a Bernie Bro) but a public servant who has tried to do good things for decades now, with the handicap of having to do it backwards and in high heels?

That guy - 2016-10-08

priceless

memedumpster - 2016-10-08

Yes, it is crazy talk.

:)

Xenocide - 2016-10-08

I don't understand why people are losing their shit over that comment. "Hillary Clinton, the woman who spent most of the 90's pushing for universal health care, is IN FAVOR of universal health care? STOP THE PRESSES, BUMP THE 'WATER IS WET' EXPOSE TO PAGE 2."

Bobonne - 2016-10-08

Bort, you need help.

memedumpster - 2016-10-08

Because every single Clinton supporter for a solid year has used every animal screech and slur possible as slung feces at any human who dare put the words "single" and "payer" near one another, Bort loudest of them all.

It's just fun to sit back and watch people say whatever bullshit it takes to pray the fear of a bad election away. Like people who freak out if you say the devil's name.

memedumpster - 2016-10-08

The devil's name is Weng Weng, by the way. The horror.

Bort - 2016-10-08

meme - if you can show me a way to get single payer to pass with the Congress we have, and also find a way to keep it affordable like Vermont couldn't, then I'll get on board.

Otherwise, anyone who thinks single payer is a realistic option in the US at this time remains a fucking retard.

Gmork - 2016-10-08

Hillary Clinton lying for 13 minutes straight.

Gmork - 2016-10-08

Oh, and that wasn't a link to the video. I was just refreshing it in your minds. The link is for yuks!

Sexy Duck Cop - 2016-10-08

Wow, it's almost as if, when you set the histrionics aside, Hillary is a liberal.

Huh.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2016-10-08

^^^lookin' forward to comments about how Hillary is a Sellout Hack Fraud Corporatist Warmonger Whore who is Just As Bad As Trump.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2016-10-08

"there is no way universal health care is ever going to happen" - Hillary now

Old_Zircon - 2016-10-08

For all of the issues she has, Hillary was already left of any viable candidate in my lifetime (including Nader) simply out of necessity, because society has moved left since then (even as government has moved right through a wide assortment of well planned, shady political maneuvers by the GOP over the past 20-30 years).

I'm not a Clinton fan and over all I don't support her but she's the only strategically sound choice right now.

Congress, especially the house, is no longer democratically since the 2011 redistricting, and the only avenue right now for having any hope of long term improvement in government is in the supreme court appointments during the next 4 years. MAYBE in 2021, if we're lucky, 2011 can be undone and we can actually have non-sham elections for representatives again, until then the choice is between a deadlocked government under a Clinton administration, or the GOP controlling congress AND the white house and doing whatever they want.

memedumpster - 2016-10-08

Pollen changes tack in a storm slower than Bort.

Anyway, screechbeasts, the quote is leaked from 2013, she said that to the rich fucks who own you all. She lied to them.

Which was the joke you all missed.

Old_Zircon - 2016-10-08

But just to make it perfectly clear, this doesn't mean I agree with Bort.

Old_Zircon - 2016-10-08

Speaking of, do you think Bort gets a semi whenever there's a chance to bring up Vermont's health care experiment as if it were even vaguely relevant to socialized health care on a national scale?

Bort - 2016-10-08

Semis aren't fuel-efficient, I'm not interested thank you.

And Vermont's failure is ENTIRELY relevant. Single payer ought to be able to scale, and even Sanders felt that Green Mountain Single Payer could be a model that the rest of the nation can follow. You can't say "Green Mountain is the future!" in 2012 and then "well it's not like Green Mountain is indicative of anything" in 2016.

Here is information. Avail yourself.

http://www.vox.com/2016/1/20/10793864/sanders-single-payer-ver mont

Here's the money quote:

---

Getting American prices in line with other countries' would require slashing pay for doctors, hospitals, and drugmakers in half. America's $2.8 trillion health care industry would immediately revolt, and with good reason: Their business models rely on receiving the highest reimbursement rates in the world.

The result is that for all the talk of cost savings, single-payer plans are very, very expensive in America — and the mixture of shocking price tag, massive new taxes, and stakeholder backlash makes them very hard to pass.

---

One thing the article doesn't cover is this. Even if you try to structure your single payer so that Wall Street or Corporate Fat-Cats or Whichever Enemy Of The People pays big taxes to keep the individual's premiums low, unless you impose mechanisms that keep costs from ballooning, sooner or later your single payer system will fail. Single payer can't just negotiate with hospitals to cap prices because those hospitals will have ever-increasing bills to pay too, and sooner or later they won't be able to cover their expenses.

Which is why I've been saying for years that the next step has to be trying to get medical costs in line. The facts are with me on this.

Old_Zircon - 2016-10-09

Because a small scale experiment in a small population in one geographical region scales up perfectly to the national level in the wealthiest country in Human history (for now). Vermont's experiment is certainly more relevant than, say, Canada or the EU.

Because there is no such thing as leverage.

kingarthur - 2016-10-08

Okay: a parallel universe where 800 or more Haitians had to die. BUT we get an obvious campaign destroying fumble from Trump and Hilary coming out in favor of universal healthcare?

DECISIONS.....

Sexy Duck Cop - 2016-10-08

"Coming out in favor of universal healthcare"

It's so, so sad people actually think this way.

kingarthur - 2016-10-08

Well, is she or is she not? Given how her acolytes have behaved in regard to it in this election I think that if she's for it, she'd probably need to "come out in favor" of it or at least remind us she's for it. Wouldn't you?

Bort - 2016-10-08

"We need to do more to address hunger in more parts of the world."

"I know! Let's order pizza for all the hungry people in the world!"

"Uh, that wouldn't work for a variety of reasons."

"WHY DO YOU WANT THE WORLD TO STARVE???"

Gmork - 2016-10-08

That's an awful analogy that works on about zero levels.

memedumpster - 2016-10-08

Here's a good Hill-dawg quote that explains the confusion over what she stands for.

“If everybody’s watching, you know, all of the back room discussions and the deals, you know, then people get a little nervous, to say the least,” said Clinton. “So, you need both a public and a private position.”

She is only for universal healthcare in private to the one group of rich people way back in 2013, because she wanted something from them.

Old_Zircon - 2016-10-08

Meme is right. The thing is, this means that she, being a career politician, will bend, it's just a matter of whether she can be made to bend in the right way.

Bort - 2016-10-08

Still waiting for that path to actually achieving single payer, meme.

And is there anyone here who is genuinely surprised that people say different things depending on who's listening? Is there anyone here who doesn't tailor their message and their tone to their audience? You cannot honestly be shocked that other people do that, and that every politician does as well. Yes, even the ones who tell you that all the OTHER politicians can't be trusted.

Bort - 2016-10-08

Gmork - the point is, being in favor of a goal does not mean supporting every poorly-thought-out scheme intended to get there. Having a dumb unworkable plan is not a virtue, even if the goal is admirable.

But even then, I say most single payer supporters have lost interest in actually helping people, and want single payer for its own sake. They just want the dumb unworkable plan whether or not it actually the ostensible goal.

Bort - 2016-10-08

"actually LEADS TO the ostensible goal".

Gmork - 2016-10-09

At least you have one thing right - the core issue isn't just "we need universal health care" - for that to be feasible the costs themselves must come down to reasonable levels.

However ridiculous the prices are, however, they're a fraction of what we spend on military and defense. Rethinking our national priorities could easily lead to fix our crumbling infrastructure _and_ provide free education and universal healthcare.

Good luck getting that to happen.

kingarthur - 2016-10-09

Or we could do as Japan does and set strict price controls every year. The NHS does it as well. Wait, does every country with universal health care do that? HOW ABOUT THAT.

fedex - 2016-10-10

whoa whoa, are you some kind of commie trying to destroy the American way of capitalistic freedom?!

Binro the Heretic - 2016-10-09

Who would have thought Trump was such an asshole except for everybody.

Even his supporters know he's an asshole. That's what they like most about them.

Old_Zircon - 2016-10-09

Somewhere about a month ago I read or heard the observation "Clinton's biggest public supporters have been people who know her personally. Trump's biggest public detractors have been people who know him personally."

Policy issues aside, that pretty much sums it up.

gmol - 2016-10-09

Insanity aside, I can't reconcile how reporters are calling this "shocking" and "vulgar".

"Vulgar" means "common". And the tone of Trump's talk is indeed common, you hear it all the time. I imagine it is especially common amongst wealthy, powerful men.

That guy - 2016-10-09

It's 'the straw that broke the camel's back' logic.
