Nominal - 2018-09-14 All you guys should have gone out and actually voted against Trump on election day then. I'm pretty sure every single one of you decided to abstain or protest vote.
Oops! Say hello to Chief Justice Kavanaugh! Say bye to Roe v. Wade!

The GOP is now trapped in a heck of its own making.

Could the GOP be having that "Frankenstein" moment when the monster they created turns on them and they realize creating a monster might not have been such a good idea after all?

Sexy Duck Cop - 2016-10-09 They're like if Dr. Frankenstein was also that schizophrenic guy who kept drawing cats as his disease worsened until the cats disintegrated into an unrecognizable mess of disjointed shapes, and every time his increasingly worse Frankensteins kept drowning children and screaming its philosophical musings on rape, he said "Well, the problem is I wasn't being enough of a crazy asshole this time."

Old_Zircon - 2016-10-09 Except this is real, the Louis Wain thing is largely fabricated. Yes he was institutionalized (there's credible speculation is that it was a combination of high functioning autism and possibly also toxoplasmosis from the cats he owned) but the whole "his drawings reflected the degeneration of his mind" thing is completely false, that sequence they're usually shown in isn't anywhere near chronological. There was a period of time where he was experimenting with what he called "wallpaper patterns" for a few years, and that's when the handful of cat-mandala stuff that's usually presented out of sequence as an illustration of his declining health was done. After that he returned to doing representational illustrations that were pretty similar to the stuff he had done that made him famous as a professional illustrator earlier in his life.
I managed to find one of his original children's books from the 1900s a few years ago and we have another one at work, and I've got to say the professional illustrations he did before his decline are way stranger and darker than anything he did in the institution.

Old_Zircon - 2016-10-09 Sorry for the pedantry, I'm just a bit of a louis wain fan and wanted to set things straight.

Binro the Heretic - 2016-10-09 I don't believe you, OZ.
Nobody is a "bit" of a Louis Wain fan. If you are not a full-on Louis Wain fan, you are NOT a Louis Wain fan.

kingarthur - 2016-10-09 As someone who has both been a patient in and worked in mental hospitals, anything you draw is immediately scrutinized to deduce your particular brand of crazy. I was told that all of the faces I drew were sinister and angry. I had drawn a picture of Ganesh.
