Admit it, Star Wars geeks. This trailer looks like ass.

SolRo - 2016-10-20

looks like a Turkish remake of starwars.

Xenocide - 2016-10-20

This is great. I love watching logos die violently.

gravelstudios - 2016-10-20

Fucking Helvetica.

Rosebeekee - 2016-10-20

Looks more charming when it's not remastered.

Boomer The Dog - 2016-10-20

You can get the Despecialized Edition, edited by fans to get rid of all the new changes. There was a site about it, and a torrent. I got version 2.5, and not sure if it's been upgraded since then.

Old_Zircon - 2016-10-20

I don't know what edition I have but it looks good, they even undid the edits that were made for the 1980 rerelease. It reminds you why the movies were successful to begin with.

Rosebeekee - 2016-10-20

Thanks Boomer. I feel like I'd have to track down an ancient tv to watch it on though.

freedoom - 2016-10-20

There's also a version out there called Team Negative1 35mm silver screen theatrical version. it's a digital transfer off of an original 35mm print someone found.

Boomer The Dog - 2016-10-20

Thanks Freedoom for the tip, I'm working on it now and just read a couple of articles about the Silver Edition, have to give Mr. Black and team some credit and watch his work.

I saw the original at the Bank Cinema in downtown Pittsburgh with my aunt, she loved the movie and took others to see it, so we went to an afternoon matinee.

I've only seen the original release that one time, as far as I know, and haven't watched the releases with George's newer edits. Most of the scenes from newer versions I've seen were on sites talking about it.

I'm more of a Chewbacca nerd than anything, but the movie is part of my history.

I was interested in the despecialized edition until I found out that, for some reason, the guy who made it apparently has never heard of video compression and it clocks in at something like 100gb and I could never find a torrent moving faster than a babbling brook. I figured waiting 5 months to see it was kinda not worth it.

il fiore bel - 2016-10-20

Wait! Were both light sabers blue in the movie?!

Cube - 2016-10-20

And I thought they didn't show the light sabers turning on or off because of techincal limitations.

Bort - 2016-10-20

Okay SW geeks, explain how it's not a mistake that "light years" is being used as a measure of time.

Old_Zircon - 2016-10-20

I remember reading at least part of the novelization of the first Star Wars film after I found it in the local library in like 5th grade, and the part that really sticks out is how much more violent it was. I DISTINCTLY remember it describing a stormtrooper's head disintegrating into "a mass of blood and bone" in the first two or three pages alone.

Not relevant to anything, this just reminded me.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2016-10-20

So now I know where that sample came from. "Somewhere in space this could all be happening, right now" From the beginning of psyence fiction by Unkle.

For some music I was into (eg. Unkle and DJ Shadow) I occasionally hear the original source randomly, like here. Has been happening for years + its always weird.

The "It is happening again" bit from the end of endtroducing made me flip my shit when I heard it in twin peaks (during a pretty climactic bit in and of itself)

Two Jar Slave - 2016-10-20

Is there a name for being briefly disturbed by accidentally discovering something you're familiar with only as a reference?

"It is happening again" would be an especially freaky one. One of the most unsettling murders on film, if I'm remembering right.

freedoom - 2016-10-20

Wow, this trailer was cut with pre-effects footage. the bartender's line sounds completely different.

animegurl1000 - 2016-10-20

The bartender was played by a British actor, but his voice was dubbed over in post to make him sound American. Quite a few of the extra characters had their voices dubbed over, in fact-- Aunt Beru, almost all of the Rebel pilots, etc.

Here's test footage of the cantina scene featuring the bartender's original voice (skip to 0:26).

animegurl1000 - 2016-10-20

Here's a better version without the cantina music dubbed in.
