Not only is this indeed terrible, but I just realized it also blatantly rips off Wang Chung's soundtrack for To Live and Die in L.A. (Friedkin,'85)

Specifically this track, "Black-Blue-White"

This looks like the kind of movie that owes its existence to video rental stores.

I've seen this a few times.

True story: this was released the same weekend as Star Trek The Voyage Home. When I went to go see that movie with my dad, there were lines literally wrapping around the theater for it and when we did finally get up front, the shows were totally sold out for that day, so we had the choice of Solarbabies or Firewalker (that Chuck Norris movie). We saw Solarbabies.

IN retrospect, the film wasn't really *that* bad by the standards of the time, but it wasn't particularly well made. It seemed to have trouble finding a consistent tone. Looking back, it's really amazing just how many Mad Max-esque, post-apoc type movies were being released in the 80s. My local video store at the time (this was *just* before the age of the big, corporate, chain video stores) actually had an entire section just devoted to the genre.

On a side-note, I totally forgot Alexei Sayle was in this.
