But Hillary won the popular vote. The silent majority was really just an obnoxiously loud minority.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2016-11-09

231,556,622 eligible voters

46.9% didn't vote
25.6% voted Clinton
25.5% voted Trump

Democracy doesn't really work when you sit at home on your ass, kids. Hope you enjoy back alley abortions, mandatory work prayer, and the repeal of the ACA for 20 million people.

bawbag - 2016-11-09

Mandatory voting would -really- be something to see in a country as vast as the US, but it's doubtful the powers that be would ever allow it when they have such investments in voter disenfranchisement.

EvilHomer - 2016-11-09

Man, Obama's not even out of the White House and you guys are ALREADY going full Jade Helm/ conspiracy theory. Are those mandatory prayers going to be in EVERY workplace, or just the FEMA Camp ones?

I'm proud of you!

Monkey Napoleon - 2016-11-09

EH, why don't you look up the actual platform of the actual guy who's going to be running the country?

Roe V Wade is very probably getting overturned
Planned Parenthood is very probably losing Title X funding
We're likely to see a renewed crackdown on minor drug offenses
The ACA is definitely the first thing on the chopping block, and if it isn't, all it does is prove Trump has no intention of doing anything he said. It's literally lose/lose
We're likely going to have whatever LBGT progress has been made during Obama stop dead in it's tracks, if not reversed

This in exchange for impossible promises, a marginal tax cut for the rich, and being represented by a vulgar orange troll.

Monkey Napoleon - 2016-11-09

Oh yeah, and a trade war with China.

Because yeah, you can totally put the squeeze on a country that doesn't give even a tiny shit about its workers and neither does anyone who lives here.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-11-09

The electoral college is sort of like a conspiracy by the wealthy and powerful to disenfranchise ordinary people, but a conspiracy is a secret, and everybody knows about the electoral college.

EvilHomer - 2016-11-09

So where's the mandatory work prayers...?

Besides, I'd rather have a trade war with China than a shooting war with Russia, but hell, that's just me.

EvilHomer - 2016-11-09

And once again, I'd just like to stress that I'm not on anyone's "side" here. I'm no more in favor of Trump than I am in favor of Hillary. Well, maybe a smidge more - the Trumpers present a better case overall, especially after Bernie got knocked out of the race - but no, I am being serious when I say I'm proud of you!

It's good to see that you're fighting against the system and raging against the machine. Use that momentum! Lefties had eight years of kowtowing to authoritarianism; now it's time to oil off the gears of liberty and get back to business. Let's you and I help to Make America Great Again.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2016-11-09

"Hope you enjoy back alley abortions,"

Literally every Republican since Roe v. Wade happened has said they were going to work toward overturning it. It never happens.

"mandatory work prayer,"

Literally cannot happen due to the first Amendment and the very nature of the American population. Even Christians differ among each other when it comes to prayer. The idea of trying to make people pray in any context outside of a church group of a homogeneous faith is absurd and beyond unfeasible.

"and the repeal of the ACA for 20 million people."

Are you implying that's a bad thing?

SolRo - 2016-11-09

This is America.

What the people think doesn't matter.

Only what SCOTUS thinks matters.

And there's a very real danger Trump will add multiple religious right-wing crazies to it.

The kind that think the Federal government has no right in regulating pollution, prohibiting discrimination, separation of church and state, reproductive rights, creating nature preserves, national parks, ensuring equal pay, work safety, etc, etc, etc.

Hell, his pick for secretary of the interior is fucking Forrest Lucas. He's literally going to put an oil tycoon billionaire in charge of our national parks.

simon666 - 2016-11-09

Additionally, Clinton received 6.2 million fewer votes than Obama did in 2012. The Dems/Liberals didn't show up to the polls. That's fucked.

Monkey Napoleon - 2016-11-09

Also this mantra of "not enough dems came out to vote" is really, really obnoxious in an election where the democratic nominee won the popular vote and a lot of young people living in blue states are learning that not only did 5-7 million-ish of their votes not count for anything, but it also insures that next time around nobody is going to bother listening to them.

Saying "not enough of you voted" has as much truth to it as saying "you live in the wrong state."

simon666 - 2016-11-10

Number of votes for the last three presidential election in the US
-------Democrat--------Republican
2016 59,680,035 59,479,287
2012 65,915,795 60,933,504
2008 69,498,516 59,948,323

Trump received fewer votes than McCain and Romney. He was a weak republican candidate and as it turns out received fewer votes than repubs going back to 2000.

Obama had a huge ground game and mobilized voters in both of his elections. Hillary getting 6.2 million fewer votes is insane. Even as an unpopular candidate herself, she should have had at least three million more votes.

Dems didn't come out is the sufficient reason for her loss. Trump's rhetoric for economically ignored noncollege educated whites was the necessary cause. Without being able to mobile the noncollege educated whites, Trump would have lost, but the dems not coming out for Hillary was, given Trump's mobilized base, sufficient for her loss.

"Less of two evils is still evil" logic is absurd. "Bernie or bust" is absurd.

simon666 - 2016-11-10

Here is another for instance.

In Coos county New Hampshire, Hillary lost by 10% points. Obama won that county in 2012 by 18% points.

Compare these two maps:

2012 by county: http://elections.nytimes.com/2012/results/president

2016 by county: http://www.nytimes.com/elections/results/president

EvilHomer - 2016-11-10

You know what's REALLY evil about those figures, Mr Simon? The fact that, evidently, 53% of the population STILL complies with the system.

But yeah, I am a little glad that enough people got off their asses and went out to vote for Trump. As you say, "the lesser of two evils" is still the lesser of two evils, so small blessings, yeah?

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-11-09

It seems strange to me that the experienced white women got beat by the inexperienced white man, and for some reason, the left is blaming "racism" instead of misogyny.

I know that misogyny is not the only force in play here, but it's the obvious one that we're not really talking about.

EvilHomer - 2016-11-09

Bet you wish you'd voted for Sarah Palin now, huh?

15th - 2016-11-09

I think the blanket accusations of misogyny and racism the left spewed towards everyone that wasn't voting Democrat undoubtedly drove some votes Trump's way. Those accusations certainly hold up for a decent percentage of his base and likely Trump himself, but people really, really don't like be condescended to.

The Democratic Party was that special blend of arrogant and incompetent and look what happened.

Perhaps we should adjust our attitudes. We just got one big orange comeuppance.

SolRo - 2016-11-09

It can be blamed on sexist racists on the right and apathetic/butthurt idiots on the left that didn't vote in equal measure.

SolRo - 2016-11-09

But it's both, the venn diagram of racist trump supporters and sexist trump supporters is a god damn circle.

Potrod - 2016-11-09

I know you're trolling JHM with the Sarah Palin bit--you'll deny it vigorously but whatever--and I shouldn't take the bait but goddamn is that bit of trolling in particular totally nonsensical.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-11-09

>>>I think the blanket accusations of misogyny and racism the left spewed towards everyone that wasn't voting Democrat undoubtedly drove some votes Trump's way.

I agree completely with this. It's not only condescending, it's not a real argument. Its a huge problem with the left, and it's a big problem with the internet. A real argument doesn't fit into 140 chracters. YOU ARE A RACIST does.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-11-09

The Sarah Palin bit was pretty funny, actually.

EvilHomer - 2016-11-10

Never seen an adequate response, either! "Vote for Hillary, because she is a woman" is quite obviously one of the lowest of the low-information voter arguments - but even people who accept this argument as valid should see problems with it, would that they only took a minute to think things through.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-11-09

I'm going to leave the tragically ironic description. I can't think of anything more appropriate.

EvilHomer - 2016-11-09

'We are the dead,' said John Holmes.

'We are the dead,' echoed Boxxy dutifully.

'You are the dead,' said an iron voice behind them.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-11-09

Homer, there hasn't been a Boxxy video in years. Which means your sense of timing is OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAAAAAND!!!!

EvilHomer - 2016-11-10

Well, I would have said Shoe0nhead, but you refused to vote for her, because MISOGYNY.

Sorry, John. Misogynists don't get no Shoe0nhead. She only participates in clandestine anti-state subversive activities with REAL men.

Pillager - 2016-11-10

"Hillary Clinton lost. Bernie Sanders could have won."

https://www.washingtonpost.com/posteverything/wp/2016/11/10/hi llary-clinton-lost-bernie-sanders-could-have-won/

by 2020, I hope the Dems learn not to scapegoat the leftward leaning.

They won't win without us.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-11-09

The good news is you can expect more music videos from me featuring Trump with a penis for a head.

Pillager - 2016-11-10

This quote covers it best:

"Godfrey Elfwick
‏@GodfreyElfwick
MAYBE IF WE'D CALLED MORE PEOPLE SEXIST AND RACIST IN LOUDER VOICES THIS WOULDN'T BE HAPPENING RIGHT NOW

😯😯😯

#ElectionNight"

Pardon my "tone policing", but spewing caustic white hot rage in someone's face doesn't persuade them to your way of thinking.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-11-10

Pardon my "tone policing", but spewing caustic white hot rage in someone's face doesn't persuade them to your way of thinking.

Are you talking to me? Because I think Donald Trump with a penis for a head is hilarious.

White hot rage is unproductive, spewing it in someone's face is counterproductive. These people who voted for Trump really do deserve more respect than they've been getting . Just a few years ago, poe-news had a name for these people. It was pigfuckers. Anybody else remember how we used to talk about the pig fuckers?

I don't really blame them for wanting to hand us our asses. And --no doubt about it-- they did. I intend to acknowledge and respect that, and stop the trolling. Being right counts for more when you're not a dick about it. We probably are more sophisticated that these people. That counts for more when you're not a dick about it.

These people made fools of us, and they want to gloat, and I think they've earned it. I also think they should get their gloating in because Donald Trump is going to be president, and while anything's possible, the safe bet is that going to be tripping over his own dick real soon, and real often. We should have a sense of humor about this, if nothing more, because it's going to be HILARIOUS.
